First Day, First Photos~

It is really hard take an ugly photograph in Canada.

We came to see the leaves change,

and they are just starting.

We are in Alberta now,

heading tomorrow into the mountains where wifi will be spotty.

Will check in when the satellite enables, but until then, cheers to you from geraniums growing in the middle of a river!

Beautiful Maui,

has beautiful critters. (Red Crested Cardinal)

Did you know? (Spotted Dove)

Birds are close relatives, (Myna Bird)

to turtles?

I certainly didn’t know, and neither does this baby myna!

Turtles seem to know everything, (Green Sea Turtle)

so this friendly guy,

who swam right up to me, probably wouldn’t be surprised.

Green Sea Turtle Refuge~

We even have a colony of green sea turtles living in San Diego Bay. Check them out, they’re beautiful.

Chasing Waterfalls~

Moloka’i,

has stunning waterfalls.

This one is a double.

Hawaii is experiencing a severe seven-year drought.

It would be a triple or more with normal water flow.

Maui in particular is suffering from the drought.

It looks more like drought stricken Southern California, than a verdant tropical paradise.

But, it is still beautiful Maui.

I flew solo with a skillful pilot named Nick.

No one in my family wanted to go with me.

I can’t imagine why not!

A Cardinal Achievement~

Some of you may remember that I have only seen and photographed cardinals twice in my life, once in Buenos Aires, and recently in The Superstition Mountains in Arizona. (Tap to enlarge).

Meet Hawaiian Red Crested cardinals number 3 & 4 who have now become my very good friends!

Yep, we are in Hawaii and these guys hang out constantly in our backyard.

I am in cardinal heaven!

They are not afraid of us and especially,

enjoy joining us on the patio table for lunch!

After years of searching,

I have finally made some cardinal friends!

I hope word spreads and they bring over their buddies. We are hosting a variety of exotic and beautiful Hawaiian birds.

I will share more with you soon,

We entered here for a seven day raft trip when the kids were younger. I will never forget the sound of the rockslides in Marble Canyon at night,

or the lizards doing pushups by my sleeping bag when I woke in the morning.
