Especially when they decide,

to join your picnic.

Flying fluffs,

of rainbow hope,

on wing!

  3. Aren’t they fabulous! Did you by any chance go to Port Douglas? The lorikeets gather to roost in a line of trees on a boulevard down the middle of the Main Street. Go there at dusk – there are thousands of them and the noise is deafening. So cool!

    1. Yes. They are FABULOUS! And no, I didn’t got to Main Street. Of course now I want to, a lot. I would never have left Oz, if it weren’t weren’t for my children at home. Oz’s birds and I understand each other. Love to you Alison. ღ

  17. These are such remarkable birds, Cindy! Your third photo brings out a very interesting trait about the parrot line of birds. At first, it looks as if the lorikeet has lost a toe on each foot, as we are used to see three forward-facing toes and one facing backward. But parrots and their kin have two forward- and two backward-facing toes; this is called a zygodactyl arrangement, and it is especially beneficial to them with all their perching needs and for using their feet to manipulate seeds and other food and, of course, to play with objects that amuse them. High four?!

  22. Don´t they just brighten your day!! We have parakeets here and I love the splash of green they display as they fly past and land in a tree in front of us.

  24. We are so lucky to have mum, dad and 2 teenage lorikeets join us for breakfast every morning. Jack makes them a saucer of honey and warm water and it is lovely to watch their little knobbly tongues make short work of the offering. Then the 2 youngsters harass mum and dad with their squeaky demands for feeding till finally the 2 adults regurgitate their meal into the babies mouth. Fascinating to watch. Hope all is well at the Hollow Cindy

    I adore lorikeets. At the dog park today, a flock of them were squabbling with noisy mynas, who in turn were chased by doves.

    1. I tend to focus on individual birds, but one of the most truly amazing sights in Australia, which happens so often, are huge flocks of these amazingly colored and very vocal parrots and cockatoos flying by. It thrills me every time I experience it. Take good care & thank you Emma ❧
