Beautiful captures Cindy, of a very beautiful bird. We do not have wood peckers here, I think our hardwood trees might be too much of a challenge for them π
Thank you Ashley and agreed, Oz has enough fascinating birdies, woodpeckers would be too much! π They really are the most amazing birds. They can remember where they hide 2000+ acorns for years α
Thatβs amazing how they remember their winter stashes. I have been studying bird intelligence and behaviour some of the recent research is fascinating Cindy.
Aren’t you unexpectedly fascinating! Jelly in trees. If you ask me, adorable. Drawing outside the lines – a charming attribute. Beauty pictures too, of course.
BTW no way to say thanks for likes, but don’t think I don’t notice you. Likes back. Although I’m hard to make shut up.
the varieties of woodpeckers up here, are loving a bird product we have up here called butter icing*, I smear it on the bark.. they watch me, and as soon as I back away, they are dropping over to inspect and dine. (the other mfg. calls it nut butter) I do it only in the winter/late fall …
The Jelly Tree is now hosting so many species at a time. It is incredible. I am having loads of fun taking photos of all them because you rarely see so many species together. Happy you enjoyed & thank you α
Birds are avid people watchers! Every time I fix my lens on one they are already looking at me. It is uncanny. Thank you much Anita & be well my friend α
Everyone has already said all the “wow” things, but I have to add mine to the crowd. When I saw the first images, I said it out loud. “OH, WOW!” Great photos, Cindy.
How interesting. I have never seen a woodpecker on the hummingbirds feeders. Interesting how bird behavior varies by locale. Happy you enjoyed & cheers to you α
Thank you Martha. They are wonderful aren’t they, although I read about a family that found thousands of acorns in their attic. That would not be so wonderful! Cheers to you and take good care α
Turns out blue-jays, grosbeaks, mocking birds, orioles, woodpeckers and myriads of other birdies love grape jelly too. I now have a Jelly Tree with so many species feasting at a time, it is incredible. I learn daily too, from the birdies! Cheers to you Marlene α
They sure can make some noise hammering away from 3 AM to 5:30 AM robbing you of those last precious hours of sleep before having to get up for work. They’re no friends of mine.
He is so beautiful! We have a Red Headed Woodpecker in our neighborhood. He was in our front tree, right outside our window, on Sunday. He was a delight to watch!
Your close-ups of this gorgeous woodpecker are wonderful, Cindy. How funny that they also enjoy the jelly you hid for the orioles. I have also learned that there are many birds with a sweet tooth (beak). π
Wow . Pretty. Like this .
So happy you do & thank you! α

Great pictures ! I am keeping an old tree on the land as the same kind
of woodpecker as yours comes yearly and makes a home there. Great sound.
How good of you to do this! They do make the most wonderful sounds α
How kind of you to leave some grape jelly out for the woodpecker! We have one in the orchard across the road, I love hearing him in the morning.
We have woodpecker alarm clocks too! Great Horned Owls & frogs for night symphony and woodpeckers for our morning wake up call! Love it too α
Great collection of portraits, Cindy!
Much appreciated Steve. Thank you α
Fabulous images Cindy and so lovely to see Woody enjoying the jelly too! π
Thank you & very happy you enjoyed! α
We have two types of wodpeckers here and they are so fun to watch, and I love seeing them with the babies. π
I have never found a nest. I would love too. They nest here by the oak groves lining the sides of the creek and the nests are too high to see α
I haven’t seen babies that small, I’m talking when they first come out and the parents are feeding them.
I would love to see this too!
Fabulous captures, Cindy π
Thanks very much Cathy α

Gorgeous bird! Is that a male hairy woodpecker? We have three visit our feeders/suet – downy, hairy, and red-bellied.
None of the above. He is an acorn woodpecker. We have flickers too, but none of your species. I would love to see them α
He is so beautiful! We have a Red Headed Woodpecker in our neighborhood. He was in our front tree, right outside our window, on Sunday. He was a delight to watch!
