Ever since we were there I’ve been longing to go back.
It is definitely a place that one keeps returning too. I first visited as a kid დ

I checked the mileage from where my daughter lives. An hour and a half is doable for a day trip the next time her father and I visit. I’ll have to suggest it to her.
Make sure you visit in non-peak seasons. The crowds are too much in peak periods. Fall and winter would be lovely დ

Crowds are now an issue in many US national and state parks. Sedona in peak season is way too crowded.
That’s a shame. I’ve always stayed away crowds, even before the pandemic.

Go as off season as you can. Sedona is too crowded, but it is incredibly beautiful დ
Is it my eyes, or does anyone else think some of those rock formations look like the remains of melted buildings?
The formations are like Rorschach blots. They can be seen in fascinatingly different ways. I love that you see melted buildings. I see this now too დ

It is your imagination, and that is wonderful! I see them too, now that your imagination led the way. My husband said he now sees this too….
Initially, I thought the huge rock formation on the rear left was a mosque with 2 turrets in front…. I now wonder if I need my eyes checked!
I see this now that you mentioned it. I love the different things people see in these formations. It proves your eyes and your imagination are working well. When we first see a confusing image, our mind instantly interprets it for us, giving up a close match, which is why when I noticed a great blue heron at my front door, my brain immediately asked me, “Is there a dinosaur at you door?” I had to look again to see it was a huge heron! 😉
I know exactly what you mean about those blue herons! Stone bills look like dinosaurs too! Ditto for alligators.

I am not though, because I will tell you honestly, Sedona is way too crowded in peak season. If you visit, go in the off seasons. Peak season is too much, too expensive and too crowded. You are right though, Sedona is marvelous! დ

I would so love to photograph Sedona in the snow! What I have seen of this is gorgeous. If you do go, visit off season, the crowds are too much during the peak periods დ
We used to (before Covid) always go to Montana in October, and this would be a late-season side trip.

I’ve never seen them in person nor sunset/rise shots but I would guess they do when the sun is low on the horizon. I was remarking on the shaping of the rock.
