Coquimbo Chile is a marine bird paradise!
It is home to the impressive Peruvian Pelican.
Peruvian Pelicans are twice the size of their northern cousins and stand up to five feet tall!
They somehow manage to look individually comical,
but sober as judges in a group.
These beauties were photographed in Coquimbo Chile, and on the Palomino and Ballestas Islands off the coast of Peru.

Yeah, I know. Remarkable. To me it is nothing short of wonderful to see a bird that isn’t the least bit intimidated when I come near, and actually beckons me closer, to look me directly in the eye.

They are very friendly and not at all intimidated which isn’t surprising considering their size and their beak. Everything is bigger in the southern hemisphere.
They are awesome! Very imposing looking, especially at that height! Wonderful photos. 🙂

Interesting post. Didn’t know that you could get much larger pelicans in this area
I first saw them last year, stealing fish from fisherman who didn’t resist them!

Everything grows bigger in the southern hemisphere and thankfully the seas are still full of fish unlike the more fished out northern hemisphere.

They are tall!! I love watching them flying low and dive down into the water. These have more colorful than those I have seen in Fl.
They are amazing in flight aren’t they. These guys don’t dive like the ones you live around. They float on the ocean and catch the fish that swim by. More energy saving approach to fishing 😉
