Common Folk~

Are underrated. (Click and enlarge to see the tiny details).

Like this Holler bathing birdie,

a California Towhee, who isn’t much impressed with the paparazzi, smart birdie!

This yellow house finch has a deformed beak and foot, but is doing well on Holler handouts.

Male yellow house finches are less successful with the ladies than their ruby colored cousins, but I think the ladies lack vision.

Mocking Birds may be common,

but they are oh so smart, and very handsome.

House finches are everywhere,

but are really quite adorable!
Cheers to you from The Holler common folk~

  1. I know exactly what you mean with this Cindy – it is all too easy when birdwatching to think ‘oh it’s only a robin, a chaffinch etc etc’. All creatures (including humans!) are magical and wonderful. It does us good to celebrate those who travel under the radar. Cheers to you & wishing you a great weekend 🙂

    1. Exactly my thoughts about all creatures, including humans. After all think of everyday human heroes, and compare them to the people who get the most coverage in the news. I know who I would rather be around! 🐰

  2. Wonderful photos, Cindy. I love your birds. We have bossy stellar jays who kick everyone else out of the bird feeders and baths. 🙂 And bossy little hummingbirds who rule the roost!

  3. Common folk are my kind of critters. So much beauty is overlooked when seeking the crème de la crème. Your gorgeous photography honors these lovely creatures, Cindy ❤

    1. Oh yes indeed I have noticed this. The strength of character that flows in those who don’t seek attention or glory. I have seen so, so many examples of this from my long career as a psychotherapist. The true heroes are usually unsung. Thank you for knowing this Rebecca , of course you would, this is who you are <3

  4. I’m common folk so I’m all in here. I didn’t realize there were birds with deformities that need help. They are all beautiful birds and so kind of you to provide the free rent, space and food. Love those baths. 🙂

    1. All people are common, after all there are over 7 billion of us, so we are not exactly a rare or exotic species. Success, money and fame, don’t make someone uncommon, just overcompensated. You are more of a hero because you face adversity and thrive with your artistic soul intact. <3

    1. Yes there are birds of paradise, and birds in all their different glory, live in abundance in every human’s space. Happy Easter sweet friend ♥♥♥♥♥♥~(‘▽^人)

  5. Always a pleasure to enjoy your delightful close up pictures of our feathered friends Cindy.
Kindest regards and best wishes for a lovely Easter.

  6. Hi, Cindy. I like that you gave “equal time” to the little folk who may seem ordinary. On closer inspection, they have their charms. I love the mockingbird.

  7. I have a delightful Texas friend who shares your passion for photographing birds, but I have to say no one has ever captured birds as beautifully as you do.
I am saluting your awesome ability all the way from South Carolina.
Thank you so much for sharing.

  8. Great group of photos, beautiful done. When you want a bird photo you can always depend on house finch, if you want a bird fuss you can always depend on a Mockingbird! 😀

  9. That little finch is so elegant! Such queenly details in those images
Love the first picture of the mockingbird whose shape mirroring the blue and white vessel. Nicely done!
So nice to see (and hear) birds after such a winter. Robins are still hanging out here waiting for the warm weather signal so they can move on. We rarely see them this time of year as they rapidly pass through on their way home – (everyone goes faster going the way back home HAHA)

  10. Cool photos Cindy– so exquisitely detailed! Are these bird feeders in your yard?? I left the back door open for fresh air this week and a hummingbird flew into our family room. It was a trick getting out the window! (no pictures to show for it!) Love yours posts! xox

    1. Yes, these are in the garden. We get birds flying in both garages all the time. They each have two sets of windows and the birds try desperately to fly out the windows. I have the window by my computer open with no screen for photos and I have had birds fly in before. It scares both of us about equally! 🐤🐤

  11. Cindy, these are all so beautiful! I have always loved finches. We have a couple of different kinds here at the hatchery-I think house finches and gold finches. I haven’t put feeders out yet this year. I have never seen a holler, though. It’s eyes are gorgeous! 🙂

  12. Uncommonly beautiful, I’d say. And unimpressed with the likes of us. Good role models for attire, posture, and attitude. And how generously they bless you with their presence. (Jealous here, happy to confess)

    1. What a very kind comment. Thank you very much. I do think wild birds are excellent role models. I have watched so many of them over the years, and learned much about how to live. Cheers to you & thank you!

    Bonne journée on bonsoir

    gros bisous

    Bernard

    1. Thank you Robert, and thanks especially for viewing them fuller sized. The small wordpress format cuts out so much of the details, which with birds are the most interesting aspects. Cheers to you my friend 🐦 <3
