Prague, the magical fairyland……
The rooftops fascinate!
This is where the fairies come to dance, in this magical fairytale city.
All of Prague is like a fairyland and when you are here you are sure the fairies are too.
Who else were these rooftops built for?
We of course can enjoy them, but only the fairies can dance up there!
Feeling a bit nostalgic for Prague and I thought you might enjoy some images too!
Okay….. so this isn’t exactly a roof, it’s a ceiling, but I included it because in Prague the things under the roof are just as beautiful as the things on the roof!
Cheers to you from incomparable Prague~

what a magical place! Thanks for giving us all another taste of Prague.
For you my dear, anything!! Cheers to you & thanks too~
Hi ,Cindy those roof tops do resemble the fairy tales.
Like real fairytales!!!! 😉
Isn’t it the most wonderful place? Visited about 8 years ago and will return one day, all being well. Magical. Lovely photo’s Cindy 🙂
Yes one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
Exquisite, magical indeed! 🙂
It’s a city to fall in love in, and with!!!
I haven’t been…definitely on the list though! 🙂
Wonderful city! Your photos reminded me how we enjoyed our time there.
Yay!! Memories of Prague should be good!!
Visited about 10 years ago, but have almost no pics as my visit was an in-and-out business trip 🙁 Thanks for the fantastic pictures!!
You are so welcome. The important thing is you got to experience it!!
What a great job you did capturing the majesty of Prague! One of my favorite cities of all time!
Yep! Mine too & thank you too~
Absolutely stunning 🙂
That is the perfect description of Prague!
How wonderful! Do you know the fairytale about the elves who help the elderly shoemaker by making all his shoes for him at night? I think your roofs would be lovely places for them to live by day!! 😄 cheers!
Oooooh, I love that idea!! Lucky elves!! 🙂 It is like it’s own mysterious city up there on the roof. Cheers to you my friend~
Truly gorgeous – boy, you are on a marathon of a trip!
Actually I am home and these pics are from last year. I would be tired right now if I was still traveling!!
Such an enchanting world that I must discover before I perish.
I seriously hope you do & thank you!
Hopefully I will.
Wow very beautiful! Hugz Lisa and Bear
Hugz & cheers back to you both!
Awww you are a peach Bette!
It is a very old quaint walled city. Beautifully captured.
So happy you have been there & thank you my friend~
Wonderful architectural features–what a colorful cityscape.
Just a gorgeous, gorgeous city!
Wonderful roof designs and decorating… I love the bright, saturated colors used for roof. They give such strong contrast. I think you are right that these give you sense of fairy tale. Oh yes, the chandelier definitely looks fairly tale!
Doesn’t that chandelier amaze! It was huge, matched the ceiling details of the church perfectly, and was sooooo beautiful! Cheers to you my friend~
That is a perfect descriptor of this incredible city! Thank you~
I wonder if they made the rooftops extra beautiful because they thought it would be pleasing for God looking down from heaven. 😉 It must make for a superb aerial view in these modern times.
It certainly is a religious and celestial constructed city, where your eye is always drawn upward. I love it obviously!! Cheers to you my friend~
We were last in Prague in 1994, long before easily snapping pictures with your phone was ever imagined. It was beastly hot that summer, I remember, and I didn’t take too many pictures in between the sweltering. Except for rooftops!!
Heat is hard in these old cities. I commiserate, but am happy you looked to the rooftops!
So fantastic! Always wanted to visit Prague and Budapest. Someday . . .
Yes Budapest is on my list too. We are seeing Tallinn, Bruge and St Petersberg soon……Budapest and Istanbul are hopes for the future!
Gorgeousness. We must go to Prague!
Yes! Yes! But rest up first during a glorious summer home in Vancouver. Prague is easy to reach in Europe by train, and besides being unbelieveably beautiful is also most affordable.
It is wonderful the structures stood the test of time. Inspiring! 🙂
It is inspiring and wonderful! A beautiful, very old city~
Beautiful city, beautiful photos. Now we want to go if for no other reason than to take photos.
Looking over the rooftops at night with the illuminated old cathedral is truly a magical experience! I recommend Prague most highly~
Oh, just gorgeous! I love that you talk about the fairies!! Can I reblog?
Of course and I am most honored! Thank you for your kindness Brenda & cheers to you~
I’m pleased to do it!! What a fun post!
Breathtaking! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for appreciating!
Prague?? You’re in Prague?? Oh, my!
Sadly not in Prague, just waxing nostalgic over it! I am home at The Holler~
These are beautiful photographs! My husband & I hope to visit this magical city someday. But until then, we “see” more of the world through your camera lens. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Well that makes me happy and I hope you do go with your husband. You both are sure to fall under Prague’s enchancement~
Fairy tales indeed! 😀
Yes crenellated castle tops everywhere!!
I did not know that about Prague. It is like you said–fairytale like–beautiful. This changed my impression of the city.
Well how wonderful is that! So glad. Thank you for telling me~
Prague is a wonderful city! Nice to know that you’re visiting it Cindy. Thanks for sharing with us, and take care. xxoo
My last visit was last year. I am re-visiting in my imagination!!! 😉
oh, maybe it’s the nicest way 🙂 have a wonderful week Cindy 🙂
beautiful place, lovely colors, Cindy
It is just that my friend! Cheers to you~
Not just the rooftops but the facades are stunningly beautiful also. I love the colours and the balance of beauty they create
Bascially, the entire old city is just entirely enchanting on both sides of the river!
and pride simply pours out of every building, how refreshing to see 😀
Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing 🙂
Fairy tale indeed! Prague has been on my ‘to go’ list for I don’t know how long.
Oh I do hope you go soon! Easy to get to by train and very economical~
Beautiful photos! And thanks for show me Prague like this! Prague is my lovely home city but unfortunately I live abroad…Bye. Kamila
A blogging friend (Perpetually in Transit) has acted as ‘locum’ chaplain in Prague…thanks to your photographs i can see why she loves it.
And if you are planning to visit Budapest in the future, you might enjoy the ‘Hattatt’ blog – they live there and give a super picture of their life there.
Yes, Budapest is on the list! I will check out both of these blogs. Thank you for the leads. They sound most interesting~
Breathtakingly beautiful Cindy. Thank you for sharing the gorgeous photos. Prague is a place that is on my list and you have raised it higher… Merci beaucoup!
This is a good thing. Intra-European flights are such a deal. Hope you do go and post about it!
I would love to but it would have to be on the other blog as this one is reserved only for France! 🙂
That would work!!
They surely built with colour in mind. Thanks for the look. 🙂
I love that about much of Europe, the embracing of color in the interior and exterior design and even the landscape design. It always makes San Diego look rather beige by comparison~
Thanks for posting theses wonderful pictures! I truly love Prague, it’s a beautiful city.
Yes, it is quite a special place~
Indeed it is 🙂
Absolutely a beautiful city, Cindy. Little do I know, but I wonder how many of these buildings escaped the bombings of WWII? I suspect many had been rebuilt, do you know?
What a good question. Prague was occupied by the Nazis starting in 1939. Prague Castle was used as a Nazi headquarters and Rheinhard Heydrich commanded there. When Dresden was being deccimated, Prague was also bombed by the US. Something like 100 historical buildings were destroyed and 200 heavily damaged.
It is remarkable that so many survived~
I think it’s the most beautiful city in the world, but that’s just me 🙂
Well I was going to say this, but then there are so many cities I haven’t seen yet. I suspect though, you may be right!
Ohhh! I am literally breathless looking at these views of Prague’s rooftops. I have never been there but you can bet it’s now on my bucket list! “Magical”!
Oh I can’t wait until to go Dor and tell me your impressions!
I’ve never seen anyone focus on the roofs of Prague before. Good idea. There really is a fairytale-netherworld apearance to them and the city skyline. Very impressive. Very inspiring.
Prague is a place where one truly does feel enchanted. Thank you for your thoughtful comment~
Definitely a place for lots of fairies!! 🙂
If only I could have got one on camera!!!
Oh, my goodness, now I want to visit there! Such beautiful architecture, and the colors! Thanks for sharing, Cindy!
I hope you do visit. It will weave you into it’s enchancement and you will be transported, literally of course, but figuratively too!! 😉
Wow….what an amazing city. Love it!
I do too!! Thank you~
Lovely photos. Lovely place.
So kind and so appreciated!
Oh Cindy…how I would love to dance on those rooftops with fairies!! Absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing and expanding my little world. Blessitude
Thank you for the appreciation & cheers to you~
Yes, Prague is quite unique! Cheers~
They’re rather spectacular! 🙂
One reason it looks like fairy tale buildings might be that it might have inspired illustrators and therefore influenced our ideas about how such places look.
My grandfather who was living in GDR used to send us beautiful books made in Czechia at the time from a publisher called Artia. Among these where fairy tale books (with illustrations from famous graphics artists like Jiří Trnka, as well as other artists. They have a great tradition of book illustration there. There are also fairy tale films that where made in those days and exported to other countries, including western european ones.
However, who knows wht is cause and what is effect here.
How wonderfully synchronistic! I have several Artia books that I have collected since childhood. Some were my mother’s others mine. I know precisely the incredible illustrations you are referring to and what you have said makes complete sense. I didn’t realize it though. But now I do, and yes, to me, Prague looks just like the fairytale books I read and looked at as a child. Thank you so much for awakening this connection~
Your pictures are amazing. I have been in Prague many years ago over 30 … and it was a dirty place even though we totally enjoyed it. It had many grey places and I don’t remember many colours. I think I need to go again now!
Yes I do think so! It is not dirty and it is full of color and charm and magic. Interesting, we have two good friends and we were out to dinner with them after we had returned from Prague. They had been. I asked the wife how she liked it. She said “I didn’t like it.”
She couldn’t articulate why as clearly as you did.
I asked her husband how he liked it. He said, “I thought it was the most beautiful, charming city I had ever seen.”
People do sometimes just like different things, which if this pronounced in a marriage could be difficult I imagine.
But viva la difference~
Maybe Prague is just not your cup of tea~
I actually think it has changed a lot as my sister also went and loved it. When I went so long ago it was still in the “East” and customs were extremely scary too. It felt like almost you are doing something wrong with the heavy police everywhere. I will one day go again and see the difference.
I hope you do go and I suspect you might just fall in love!! Cheers to you~
Wow! I am always awed by your amazing journey with words and pictures so divine, yet crisp and real. Thank you, Cindy!
Awwww so appreciated! Thank you~
Beautiful! Striking! I want to go there! You’ve moved Prague wayyy up my list.
Oh good!! I know you will love it. We are heading to the Baltic next and I know you were there. Looking forward to St Petersburg and Tallin!
OMG outstanding. The cities of eastern Europe are on my bucket list, so thanks for the preview.
Yes mine too!! I want to see all of them that I can. Such beauty in Eastern Europe~
Beautiful story you paint with beautiful pictures. 🙂
Awww so kind & so appreciated!
So effectively captured and displayed ! Great architectural photo series ,dear Cindy !
Doda 🙂 xxx
I am very happy you enjoyed it Doda. Hugz to you my friend~
Such beauty, color and mostly creativity (both the rooftops and your photography!). Wonderful work Cindy.
Can you imagine building a city where every building was a work of art! That is old Prague. Thank you for you kind words my friend and cheers to you~
That is an amazing thought ~ and also show the great character of the population. What a city to enjoy.
I hope you visit someday, I bet you will~
Yay! Thank you~
Your photography just continues to be consistently excellent!
You are very kind and most appreciated!
These are aaaamazing Cindy!
Very happy you think so Patty!
Love your roof tops, Cindy. I am off to Prague for a week on Sunday on a spur of the moment trip. Any hidden gems you would recommend.
Oh how wonderful for you! I have two suggestions, the first you will do anywhay most likely and that is just walk around and explore the old city on both sides of the river. As you wonder you will find churches, art galleries, mosaics, medieval buildings, statuary, hidden gems everywhere! Secondly, even if you are no an opera fan, go to the opera! The interior of the opera house is just to die for. I have many posts on Prague from my last trip there under travel May 2013, and you can see what I mean about the opera house in my photos. You will enjoy the experience because you will feel as is you have been transported back in time and the whole evening will be magical! Enjoy Prague!! You will!!
Hey. Thanks for the suggestion on the opera. Not a big fan but luckily there is a ballet performance of Sleeping Beauty while I am there so I ordered a ticket. I am excited. Marie
Magical and gorgeous. 🙂 Wish I were there right now.
Wunderschöne Bilder wünsche dir eine glückliche gute Woche.Grüße und Freundschaft.Gislinde
Vielen danke Gislinde und Freunschaft! <3
Now I see why people say that Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You have captured the magic, Cindy <3
I didn’t know people said that but I certainly agree with them!!! Mil grazi~
If we could all just take a little pride in our own cities…even suburbs and country farms – I think the fae might come and visit too.
I think your right, pride and artistry, not cold, institutional boxes! Fairies don’t dance on box buildings~
What fantastic pictures! Beautiful! Magnificent 🙂
Awwww so kind!! <3
I’ve been fortunate enough to go to Prague and your beautiful photos bring me wonderful memories. Thank you 🙂
So happy you were able to experience the magic!
Wow! Wow! Wow! They really are fairy tale roof tops! It’s very inspiring! I love painted cities, however they are painted. Thank you, your photography is wonderful! 🙂

Hi Cindy and thanx for this amazing post dedicated to one of the most wonderful European cities… I don’t find THE appropriate adjective(s) to describe Prague where I’ve been twice… I simply miss this unique city, situated at historical crossroads…

You should show sometimes Cindy!
How nice of you to say!! Thank you~
I went to Prague many years back and remember it as a lovely place, well looked after and full of great people. I must make time to visit again…Thanks for reminding me!
The people, the food, the art, the architecture!! It is truly a magical city~
Such craftsmanship! Would we ever see anything like this in the U.S.?
No, or in the modern world of architecture. The artistry and intricate devotional mastery devoted to these old medieval buildings are unsurpassed in the modern era. They blow me away~
I had no idea Prague was so beautiful and extraordinary!
I didn’t either when I first set eyes on the old city. I was flabbergasted~
Beautiful! I just love these.
Thank you & cheers to you!

Each time I dig into your archives I’m overjoyed with the treasurers I find. I hadn’t thought much about Prague since the last time we were there and now I want to start traveling again. After this last heart surgery of Tom’s we just might be able to eventually make some of those retirement dreams come true.
Oh I so hope you do!!! A trip and change of scene would be wonderful for you both! Hugz to you Sheri~
