We are in a very remote cabin. People may say this sometimes when maybe it isn’t really true. But trust me. It is completely true. This is how our luggage was brought up to our “off the grid,” hyrdo (read river) powered cabin in The Tantulus Mountains.

Our “stuff” was truck-pulled up the funicular (my word), dumb-waiter (my husband’s word) to our minimal-carbon footprint “chalet.” There are a lot of rules to living up here which I will not bore you with, but the place is so knock your socks off beautiful you won’t believe it, and I will post photos of it soon so you will believe it.
I am however chronologically (as well as spelling and directionally) challenged, so I am going to post the photos in consecutive order. For now, check out the spectacular beauty of The Sunshine Coast.
I managed to post these because we left our chalet and drove down the pitted dirt road in the peaks, to go get groceries, where I found a place that actually had wifi! God Bless Starbucks! They really are everywhere and they always have wifi, as well as low-fat Carmel Macchiato latte……ahhhhhh civilization! You don’t appreciate it until you leave it.

The inlet is in a vast wilderness area reached via Egmont Canada.

  9. This is fantastic. Very beautiful and I will believe you when you say remote. I lived in Prince Edward Island for 8 years and while not quite as remote as this – it was remote enough for me! I need noise. Enjoy!!

  10. I have been going to Starbucks for over 20 years. I become hooked when I bought my second cup the next day–they knew my name and what I ordered on my first visit.

    I love your photos, but I am a city boy. My wife would love living like you do. It is beautiful.

    1. Laughing…..so slowly!!! The owner wife ran up like it was a turn around the corner. I pretended to stop and admire the view so I could catch my breath!

  24. Absolutely gorgeous photos! But your idea of Starbucks as civilization? Oh dear lady, you need more time in those beautiful mountains so you can learn a truly civilized life (away from any place with Starbucks, McDonalds, or modern not-so-civil society). 😉 Peace.

  41. Oh, my, Cindy and I loved Banff last year. Now Egmont may have edged it out!! You do find yourself in some rare, beautiful places!! Thanks for sharing all that remote loveliness with us!! Blessings, Brenda

    1. Well you can drive fairly easily from The Sunshine Coast to Banff, some scenic car ferry rides included…….I want you to go and take your kids. I first went at 14 and I keep on coming back!

      1. It’s too far from the East Coast, I have looked into it. We all talked it over. We would have to fly part way, rent a car and drive the rest. We want to… but not unless I can sell a book. 🙂 Who knows, that may even happen. One day. Fingers crossed. Working hard. Cheers, Brenda

    That’s a pretty new English word for me.
    I might have heard it before but I really noticed it for the first time when I was watching the Disney animation film, Frozen.

    I love the one with the wooden terrace with the marvelous view.
    I can imagine how many poems and sketches I could create if I were there!

        Experiences new things, meeting new people and making new friends.
        I’d love to be able to do them all one day.

        For now, I’m gonna work hard so that I can materialze that dream. 😀

    1. Today we are in real civilization again in Whistler. I am on the 10th floor of a hotel watching a woman who is sitting outside with two gorgeous dogs,and a huge laptop sreen and iphone eating dinner. I can see what’s on her screen from up here. She just got up and walked off a ways to talk with someone with her dogs. A raven has now jumped on her table and is eating her dinner. He probably will send an email. Wish you were here!

    2. I want to visit you and Toronto!!! Winnipeg is next though to see the Polar Bears in Churchill……why don’t you come?? It’s close to you…..errr…….in Canadian distance????? Did I mention I am directionally challenged?????

      2. Churchill is remote but we are definitely going back to Canada next year at least once. Waterton NP is already on the books and Churchill or the Knight Inlet. The inlet is much easier logistically and it has orcas and grizzlies. I have heard Toronto is awesome and the restauraunts are excellent……so many places, so little time!!

      2. Yes but I thought fall was the time to visit when I was in Banff et. al last fall. I guess the question would be, when is the time not to visit? I guess winter is nippy, but there is the skiing and nesting eagles……..
