antarctica

i think the reason

i am reluctant

to share photos

of antarctica

is because I covet them

closely

like something

huge

you are unable

to describe

adequately

or even at all

.

antarctica

is the earth

as it was made

unmarred

by us

you see

how harmful we

have been

to the rest of our

planet

in comparison

you see the glory

and fear the potential

death of it

too

.

if you haven’t been

you haven’t seen

what is

there

in the ice

you can feel

this

other places

in the world too

if you look

with an open mind

but in antarctica

it was an epiphany

for me

.

maybe it is good

that in 2008

only 100,000

people had been there

if more of us

had been

we might have made of it

now

what we have

of the rest of the planet

it is the last

remaining refuge

on earth

.

is God

disappointed

in us

for our

stewardship

or lack

thereof

of our world

maybe

we could

do something

more

than we are

to preserve

our sacred places

  1. Cindy, this text – in fact I should say this Poem! is just deeply moving. “An Epiphany” you said! You’ve found the very right words to describe your feelings. You know, a long time ago when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time I remember of a “mystical feeling”, it was the same with stunning mountains in the Alps. So I can understand what you explain. La majesté et la pureté de ces terres doit remplir l’âme d’admiration. Beyond words. Yes! Thanks for sharing with your readers dear Cindy! – Frédéric
