Check out los lobos del mar playing in Peru!

This group was photographed in Los Islas Palominos off the coast of Lima.

They were quite curious about their unusual human visitors,

and kept popping up to get a better view!

This bull was hanging out near La Serena Chile.

Southern bulls are more massive and furry than their northern counterparts,

and they seem more threatening too!

These happy guys were playing around Islas Balestras near Pisco Peru.

I am only intermittently near functioning wifi so please excuse my absence, and cheers to you from Los Lobos del Mar~
We just met our first southern sea lion at a rescue park in St. Thomas. He was huge – 750 pounds at seven years old.
Yes, they are gigantic, especially compared to their northern cousins!
Wow, you got so close. That beautiful face with the eyes closed closeup is a marvelous photo.
Oh, thank you, he was a marvelous beast.
Great shots, Cindy. Thanks for sharing. As a SCUBA diver, I’ve encountered sea lions and seals on many occasions here on the west coast of British Columbia. I can assure you that they don’t move slowly in the water! Nothing scarier than having a several hundred pound sea lion heading right at you and veering away at the last minute. These species look considerably larger than our west coasters.
Yes, I know exactly what you are saying. The northern version were all over the beaches where I grew up and swam. But these southern ones seem perfectly adapted to the harsher reality of the southern ocean.
Wow! Impressive and beautiful!
Thank you for seeing them as they are.
Wow! Massive animals indeed!
The males are very big boys!
Yes, I can see that on your photos.
<3
Beautiful photos. Too bad these guys have to eat fish.
And lots of them!
…cute and maybe lonely…nice blog.
Muchas gracias!

It’s good to see such a large crowd of them – they look marvelous!
We have visited several island groups and each has around 5000 sea lions and millions of birds!
Wonderful pics Cindy! It looks like a fun party as long as you don’t get too close to the bulls. š
Exactly! They are massive!
All I can say is Wow – amazing!!
What an awesome experience you are having…good for you!
Thank you for traveling along with me Sheila, you make it more fun!

Lovely photos Cindy, what fun to see them there.
Leslie xoxo
So pleased you enjoyed & cheers to you Leslie!
š
Love the photos, send when you can. When you get back maybe you can help me figure out what type of new bird is in the neighborhood. š
Oh, yes indeed I will. I am seeing the most amazing birds! Look forward to sharing them with you <3
Seeing these pics are amazing, they are so unlike, yet like the grey seal. xxx
Yes, when you head into the southern latitudes, the mammals tend to get more massive and tougher.
Gigantic and fast in the water. Fun!
They are fast & fun, but they look much bigger on land!
Fantastic shots! š
Happy you enjoyed them & cheers!
Wonderful pic, Cindy. Thanks for the smile. š
Thank you for the smile <3
gorgeous pic my frined
Hugs to you the fur baby Lisa <3
Wow ! Pretty impressive.š
They are!
Wow, that’s a LOT of sea lions, Cindy! I wonder why the southern ones have so much more fur than their northern kin. Seems like the cold would encourage fat and fur growth!
It gets colder at the far southern latitudes so they need the extra protection.
Wonderful, adorable creatures. Hope climate change bypasses them! Looks like you are having a whale of a time. Make that a Sea Lion of a time! š
They spend time lyin and swimmin, seem pretty perfect to me <3
Oh, how adorable…even the big boys. Thank you for sharing. I wish I could travel…
I wish you could too <3
Great photos! We have sea lions in Northern California. They seem so playful, but I wouldn’t get too close.
Agreed, especially with the big southern bulls!
Such interesting creatures the sea lions are. Fantastic photos.
Interesting and BIG in the southern hemisphere!
Delightful, wonderful, and oh so cute (except some of the scary bulls). Outstanding photos, Cindy. Thank you!
Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated Jennie <3

frolicking like only they can, such ease, such carefree happiness
It would be nice to be a sea lion in a protected island off Peru <3
What a lovely face that Bull had. Reminds me of the cowardly Lion.
Oh, he does look like him! Love the idea <3
Lovely – I’m going to be a fish out of water next week… Not anyplace that far, but far enough.
Still Still Looking High and Low for the Lamb
Oh, how exciting! I hope you post about your experiences <3
Made it safe… to a place I’ve been before in about 6 hours north of ‘home’. – Except this time the lake across from the hotel is FROZEN!
We’ll have to see how it fits into prompts š
Still not quite sure how to get my own stuff on blog posts, but once I take some ‘shots’ and then get help putting them on my PC – I’ll see if I can send you a few š
Looking forward to this Jules and have a great time.
The sun came out to play… but the wind is making the little movement of the lake sparkle… I tried to take a photo of that too…
I like your description more than any photo.
Great photos! Love the closeups of the bulls.
So happy you like them as I do! Thank you & cheers to you~
These have a gorgeous colouring on their fur and they look like they’re having fun in the water. You write that they look threatening … I hope this is correct and that they are quite safe – you seem to be very close to them at some stages. A glorious post, Cindy and I thoroughly enjoy my armchair travels alongside you!š
Bull sea lions can be a bit aggressive if you approach them too closely, so I keep safe distance. I love having you travel with me! You make the experience better. <3
So precious and free āŗļøš« have a beautiful day Cindy šāļø
Visa versa 2UX2! <3

What kind are they Cindy? Great shots as usual!
Techinically they are Patagonian Sea Lions, but the locals call them Lobos del Mar.
never seen Lions like that before, thanks Cindy.
They are very big critters!
So beautiful pictures of the bulls, I like special these pictures where they are popping up for a better view. I also think the last one where you have captured the seal in its movement. But every picture are amazing.
I am humbled. You look at these amazing creatures as I do. Thank you.

Very impressive. And still, they manage to look adorable. š
I love them. They have nurseries with hundreds of babies and babysitters watching over them. Truly amazing. I will post the photos soon.
Very nice!
Muchos gracias!

Awwww. Thank you! You make the experience better <3
Oooo… I always find sea lions adorable! The photo is taken very nicely!
Thank you! Much appreciated & cheers to you Kally <3
Those bulls look like cuddly puppy dogs….until they open their mouth to bark (howl ?) . What actually would you say they do? Yelp perhaps? I must go Google that š I think they must be naive to the dangers of mankind hey? I hope they’ll always be safe and protected <3 xk
I hope they will always be safe and protected too! Hugs to you my friend <3
I saw sea lions at SEA WORLD, ORLANDO. They looked a bit different from these. The pictures are too pretty.
