We have the best neighbors at The Holler,
the kind with feathers.
They are the most populous of all The Hollerites,
and they make the most congenial neighbors.
At the first sign of conflict,
they just fly away,
and land somewhere quieter.
I try and emulate them,
leaving crowds behind,
and seeking my own quiet spaces.
The only problem is I can’t fly!
Cheers to you from the feathered Hollerites~
(Note: I did this post with the new Gutenberg editor which was kind of fun. Can you detect any differences?)

You have some fine feathered friends there! And surprisingly, a wee bit of fall color. 🙂
Yes, we actually do get even a bit more color just about now. I will try and find some more!
Beautiful. I like the crispness of the images too.
Thanks. I had trouble with the text spacing at the end with Gutenberg, and I am not yet sure about enlarging the photos, but at least I am trying it.
I haven’t even tried it yet. Maybe you can work out the bugs first. 🙂
The only bugs I am good at are the ones you can photograph, but I will try.
I know what you mean. 😀
Lucky you! You can’t fly, but you live in the Holler.
Your shots are gorgeous, and the birds & nature are spectacular. ❦
Thank you sweetie & happy week! <3
You actually have a lake and water birds within “The Holler”. Wow! What great company! And perfectly photographed, as always!
No, I can’t see what the new editor allows… but I am not nearly as observant as you are!
I have only used the editor this once, so I will keep using it and keep learning. I know it offers a better way to showcase photos, so I am motivated to figure it out.
Love the series, Cindy.
The light, reflections and colour look a wee bit different to me, slightly more….uhmmm antique tones, but that could merely be the light on the day and the series themselves, not necessarily the editing.
Yes, it was a function of light on water. The editor offers a choice to enlarge images which I need to play around with more.
Well Cindy, you need a drone with a camera, don’t you think?
Oh my gosh! Yes. I do. I never thought of this. I will ask Santy Claus for one. What a great idea! Thank you~
Looking forward to the pics 🙂
Oh, yes, you have the best kind of neighbors! Love the white pelicans – they have arrived on the coast for fall and will be here until spring. I call them my buddies. No, I can’t tell any difference with the new editor and have not been brave enough to try it. May give it a try since you said it was fun. Great photos as always no matter the editor!
Just play with the editor and you’ll find it is relatively easy to use, although I have much more to learn about it. Pelicans are so awesome. I can see why they are your buddies.
Great photos Cindy
Thanks my friend & cheers to you!
<3 ! Much better!
Really! So good to know. Thank you!
Leaving conflict is prudent! Wise and magnificent birds! 🙂
Yes indeed! They are wise creatures.
Lovely feather friends at Holler.. These days, you can try flying a drone with camera to give you the feel of flying by yourself 🙂
You are the second person who just recommended this and it is a brilliant idea. I am going to ask for one for Christmas. I can fly it all over The Holler.
I have a neighbor who have one. He loves it. He flies it around and watch where it goes around quite far away from his living room/back yard/in car. I saw two guys flew with birds that circled up above too. Fun!
I think the hawks may attack it at The Holler. I’ll have to fly it low…..
So glad you like them!
Your neighbors are all so lovely 🙂 <3
They are the best, thank you!
I love your neighbours. 🙂 Your photos are wonderful too. I haven’t noticed any difference with Gutenberg – maybe the photos are sharper?
I have to play with it more. I can enlarge the photos, so I need to experiment with this. The old editor reduced photo pixels and clarity.
Cheers to the these water lovers! …. I couldn’t tell it was Gutenberg, then again … not sure what I would be looking for.
I have to practice with it more. It is supposed to be more photo friendly, allowing more pixels and image size.
Ah ha … something I didn’t know.
I learn a lot from blogging…..
Cheers 2UX2 & be well my friend~
Thanks, be well too! It’s always wonderful to hear from you!
Visa versa 2UX2!
Lovely birds 🐤🐤
Birds are lovely. Thank you for appreciating them.
Yes, they are cute innocent creatures 🐤💕
What lovely neighbors Cindy! I also appreciate Kate that they come and o, nd you too can get away. 💛 Thanks for more terrific photographs from the Holler!
Yes. I knew you would understand <3
These photos are absolutely crystal clear. Amazing shots of your stunning meighbors.
Let’s start dear Dor, clarifying why we love critters. Oh, well, I guess we can’t start. It would never stop.
Love to you.
Amazing what bodily positions these hollerites can assume! Hard to imitate for us humans. Great pictures, Cindy!
Thanks for noticing. It’s funny isn’t it. The herons and egrets freeze when they are scared, ie., when a person, or predator, is near. When they are not scared, they scratch, they yawn, they look at their reflections. They crack me up. They are just like us, with longer legs.
That is a great comparison with us humans, Cindy.
We humans still have a ways to go to catch up with the wisdom of the wild critters.
Beautiful! Love that shot of the peli landing on the water.
Your pelican photos still blow me entirely away. Love to you Alison.
Lovely neighbors. At least they don’t rev their car motors all night long 😂
No, they do not do that. Laughing…… or many other annoying human things. They sleep all night, and only really make any noise you can hear, if you talk back to them.
Stunning, breath taking capture. 🙂 You have a beautiful hobby.
Ahhh. Thank you. It makes me so happy.

Love to you sweet Patricia~
Beautiful birds, beautiful pics. Like them very much! Thank you! 😀
I like your very kind comment even more <3
How beautiful and high-quality photos. Thank You sharing them with us.
Have a good day!
Thank you for sharing such a very thoughtful comment with me. Much appreciated!
You have the best neighbours and the most beautiful ones. You are very lucky to live there even if you can’t fly.
Thank you my friend. I love the wild critters and the wild empty spaces which is why deserts and I get along so well.
I love your neighbours and your quiet places, and yes you can fly, though you have to pay for it ✈️
Very true. But commercial flying is the biggest burden of travel. The only person I know who actually enjoys it, is my husband.
Biggest burden and expense too
And so unpleasant…..
I feel the same way about seeking quiet spaces, Cindy.
Your wonderful calming photos make me want to soar with them…
Awwww, your lovely comment made my <3 smile. Thank you Ally.
It’s my pleasure, Cindy. 🙂
Stunning and definitely the best of neighbours! 😀😀 You’re brave trying the new editor, I looked at Gutenberg and shied away from it. Your post looks terrific as usual … the photos if anything even sharper and more dazzling!
I didn’t play around much with the photo editor, as I was just trying to figure out how to use the blocks, but I think the editor may be quite an improvement.
I love watching birds fish (we have grebes at our tiny city lake) but the Pelican is really special.
Thank you Emma! The grebe was special to me because I see so few of them, especially at home.
Well, I have never seen a pelican in Wales, but I guess you probably knew that!
They have white pelicans in St. James Park. Big beautiful ones. The original ones were a gift to some monarch eons ago. I was surprised by the birds in the park a few years ago as I stopped in London enroute from Africa. I was momentarily confused, wondering, “Why are there are all these African waterfowl in St James Park??”
Birds do tend to get around. There is now a Mandarin Duck surprising New Yorkers in Central Park.
Wow, St James Park, London? Wow. I never knew that. I just looked it up and saw some incredible pictures of a pelican on a London park bench. Made me laugh! I know that there are various flocks of parakeets in Kew Gardens.
Now I want to go to Kew Gardens!
More good long-distance reflections
More good long-distance reflections
Much appreciated, thank you Derrick & happy week.
What wonderful feathered neighbours you have Cindy and what a beautiful neighbourhood, just magical! 🙂💖 xxx
Awwww, thank you. The Holler certainly beats “civilization” in my mind.
I love your photo essay on your Hollerite neighbors! It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’d have to go with fellow coming in for a landing after successfully avoiding some unpleasantness.
Awww, thank you. Nothing like a pelican skidding to a stop, so ungainly! They crack me up.
Obrigada doce amiga <3
I can’t fly either, but I can avoid crowds like no other!!!
You and me both. <3
What great neighbours you have!! I’ve been meaning to try Gutenberg. Looks good. Was it easy to manipulate?
It is. I learn best by doing, so if you are comfortable, just create a sample post, and play with it and it will all fall together. That’s what happened to me and I posted the sample!
These are gorgeous birds, Cindy. 🙂
Birdies are bee-yut-eee-full. That is why people often wear their feathers, but feathers look best on birds.
You can’t fly, they can’t speak: perfect neighbors.
Tee hee hee…… Perfect comment! Perfect relationship.

Our feathered friends are the best of neighbors! Oh, if only we could fly too…..
Wouldn’t you dearly love to be able to fly away from every argument…..
How wonderful that would be!
Wow! Love the reflection of the birds in the water! I didn’t notice anything different with the new editor 🙂
Neither did I. Although I am still just learning and did not fiddle with the photos.
Gorgeous photos, neighbors, and photographer. Who wouldn’t want to live in this paradise? Are you looking for new neighbors? 🙂
Yes! We need good neighbors out here. Move on over. I will show you the available lots.
Great! Now, I need a windfall of money! 🙂
Nahhh, there are some quite economical lots.
Oh, but your spriit flies!
Your amazing comment just made it soar <3
Lovely photos of the holler, Cindy, and I’m glad you are using Gutenberg successfully!. I cannot tell the difference on my end. I read your comment that it’s helpful with photos, which is good to know!
Yes, I will keep playing with it and have high hopes too.
Those Pelicans!!! They are some of my favorite birds to watch– and your pelican in flight pictures are amazing! Love your wok Cindy!! xox
Love you Rhonda <3
You really captured the quiet spaces in your photos, Cindy. You have to love the birds in all their wisdom.
Thank you Leslie & have a wonderful week my friend~
Thank you Cindy. 🙂
I really like how you played with the reflections here.
Thank you for noticing and for commenting. Very thoughtful of you.
Gorgeous birds! The photos are fabulous. The holler sounds like a wonderful place to live and thrive. <3
It’s is good if you like space and not too many people.
I did not notice any differences. Do you like it better. I thought about trying it, but change…..you know… lol
Yes, we do resist change, probably because it happens so often in the world, without our consent. I don’t know what I think yet, but so far, so good.
You have the best neighbours, Cindy. I know you know their language and soon, I know that you will be flying with them. Hugs!!!
I am anticipating the moment! Hugs to you Rebecca <3
What a glorious place you live in.
It has it’s charms, and the wild critters are number 1 on my list.
Engaging portraits of gorgeous birds.
Beautiful neighbours, thank you Cindy. xxx
Merci beaucoup mon ami~
Very nice photos and narration.
Wonderful photos, Cindy. 🙂
Sometimes I wonder why you travel, with all that cool stuff around the Holler.
Travel becomes a way of life. Even when you have seen so much, you just want to keep moving. But I do hear and appreciate what you say. They have moved the free range cattle off the land next to us in preparation for it becoming a nature reserve, and for the first time we are free to explore all 2000 acres of it with no fear of bulls and Ankole Watusies. The reserve is simply amazing, especially for Southern California. It is like a time capsule transporting you back to an unspoiled California, 75 or so years ago.
As to your question about any differences in appearance, I don’t see any.

the blue feathers are gorgeous!
Birds are handsome creatures aren’t they. Loved you GC captures!
They really are. And thank you. 😊
I was too stunned by the beautiful pics to notice anything about the editor, Cuz. They were nothing short of fantastic !!!!!. 🙂
Awwww. I missed you cuz <3
Haha that is a good thing to follow ❤️
Thank you, Cindy, for your fabulous posts that take me vicariously to so many beautiful places to see so many beautiful animals, architecture and other wonderful treats; all photographed so impeccably! Thank you for the experiences I will never have first-hand, but can easily visualize through your mastery!
What a beautiful comment from a lovely soul. Thank you my friend for all you do and be well <3 <3
Liebe Cindy, nimm bitte meinen lieben Gruß entgegen
Danke & Prost, mein Freund.
Cindy, thanks for another beautiful visit to the Holler.
I’m about to fly away from the Swamp — even if I do it on four wheels. I have the house picked out. Hugs on the wing!
Have a wonderful time wherever you are going!
Cute and funny birds. Lovely pictures!
So happy you enjoyed them & cheers to you!
It’s true, you can’t fly, but you have other fine qualities 📷
Awwwww, so sweet. Thank you! <3
Your neighbours are just as gorgeous as your photography is stunning, Cindy! 🙂
Love and best wishes to you from the Fab Four <3
Awww, you are such lovely people. Thank you <3
You’ve got great neighbors in the “holler.” Yep. Real, friendly-like! Mighty nice. 🙂 🙂 (That was supposed to be a “cowboy western” accent.)
LIebe Cindy, ich wünsche eine gute harmonische Woche.
Ich hoffe du hast auch einen wunderbaren Freund und danke dir!

Beautiful, peaceful neighbors. 🙂 x
What an eye you have, Cindy. And great neighbors. I especially like the crowd. Have a good night. :0)
So nice! 🙂 Thank you! Michael
You have such wonderful and beautiful neighbors!
Thank you! They are the best.
Gorgeous photos, Cindy!!!! You always do such a wonderful job of catching the best shots. I agree with the birds. Leave the grumpy crowd and go somewhere peaceful. I love the mirrored look. I don’t think there is anything so beautiful in my neighborhood. Have a great Thanksgiving,
Your own piece of paradise, Cindy! The photos are amazing, especially the reflections! <3
Very kind & most appreciated!
Love your Hollerites! Beautiful!
