I have always wanted to stay for an extended period of time on a high mountain lake,

in the Eastern Sierras, far from people,

in the fall,
As the temperature drops each day,

critters have time to prepare for winter. (Golden Mantled Squirrel)

Winter still holds herself back.

Tonite it will be 21 degrees F.

Cheers to you from the beauty, refuge, and safety, of the wilderness (chipmunk)~

Ahhh. Roughing it. There is nothing like it. You are a front-tier-woman. 😉
“Front-tier,” perfect! Roughing it with Stickley……
Enjoy the peace and the beautiful nature… and stay warm! The pictures were wonderful!
Thank you! It is a very good time to be far from civilization……
Yes!
I am glad you were able to fulfill your dream. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thank you for joining me! <3
Beautiful.☺
Muchas gracias!
Idyllic dwelling! Congenial onlookers!
Thank you, wild critters do make the best neighbors!
It’s a worthwhile dream, good for you, Cindy! 🙂
It snowed last night, but the sun is shining today. I could get used to living on a lake!
Spent quite a lot of time on beautiful Sierra lakes this summer, Cindy. Oh so beautiful. And well captured by you. –Curt
So nice to everything green and the lakes full after all those years of drought. Glad you were here this summer Curt~
Yes, and snow banks in August. 🙂 The Temple at Burning Man this year, Cindy, was made out of Sierra trees that died because of the drought. –Curt
I lost track of how many 100,000’s of trees died in the drought. But I spent yesterday with the 5000+ year old bristle cones and they restored my perspective~
Wandering in the White Mountains is an almost sacred journey. 🙂
It is exactly that. I got tired and rested on an ancient bristlecone and the feeling was do divine it was disconcerting. Next time you go, rest on one of the ancient ones, and you will know exactly what I mean~ 🍂
Wonderful 🙂
Grazie mille!
Beautiful place! A couple weeks there would be so refreshing for the soul. And such a hug-able little squirrel!
Yes, lakes extend their serenity into your heart and soul and the squirrel helps!
Ahhhh, a lovely getaway I feel as I see this post 🙂
What a lovely way to express this! Thank you Christy~
These are beautiful photos!
Thank you Charles! I am happy you enjoyed them~
Great! Great! Great! You are a genius!
I so wish I were! But thank you for the vote of confidence~
Beautiful! The cabin reminds me of where I work….different land though, we are in the eroded canyon and land is dry. Cute chipmunk!
It sounds like an interesting place to work!
Sounds great enjoy
Thank you. The paternal portion of my family came from Scotland, Mackay clan, and settled in Nova Scotia long ago. They are the Barton side. Maybe we come from the same clan, way back when.
Most MacKay clan members come from Durness Scotland. I have been to Scotland twice but haven’t gotten way up thee yet.
Cheers distant cousin.
My dad’s family came over on the Hector,
Amazing to learn more. I know nothing really except the clan and the tartan and of course my grandmother who I adored….
A replicate of the Hector is in the harbour in Pictou Nova Scotia. it has the Manifest of the passengers on it. it was 1776, I believe. worth a visit if you are every in that part of Nova Scotia.
Beautiful! Reminds me of Northern Minnesota! (my home state).
I have never been, but hear it is gorgeous!

So thoughtful of you Patricia and so appreciated too! Have a wonderful weekend~
Oh Cindy you have just given me a tour of my dream vacation. Perfect!
So happy you enjoyed and hope you make it a reality!
You have stirred my inner native, Cindy. Sometimes she flares so strongly that I can barely stay in my skin… 💚
I hear you and am glad you are listening to her <3

I think most of us have had fantasies about a remote cabin with fabulous views far from the madding crowd… Cindy Knoke has not only experienced that in spades but has also captured it all visually for the rest of us.. That is what I call a decent fantasy..#recommended
Positive fantasy is more necessary, the more stressful our lives become. Tony Judt described this so well in “The Memory Chalet,” a Swiss Chalet he retreated to in his mind to bring him peace. Thank you dear Sally for being such a wonderful person and friend <3
I am with you 100% Cindy.. I wrote a short story about a house and garden which turned out to be in heaven.. my mother was getting more and more fearful as she got well into her 90s and I read it to her. We then created her own perfect place to go to – with my father waiting for her. We often talked about adding things to it over the next couple of years. It was considerably more palatial than mine.. but it made her happy and as her dementia increased she still remembered it. Thank you for providing us with such wonderful prompts for memories and future dreams. ♥
Cindy, that sounds cold but looks amazing. Those squirrels and chipmunks look as though they’re not bothered by the drop in temperature but I bet they have lots of food stored away so they can hide from the winter when it does finally arrive. Thank you for your wonderful photographs they are just so amazing.
Ahhh, your comments are so thoughtful and so very much appreciated! Have a wonderful day my friend <3
Looks like a Cabela’s catalogue (without guns for sale)! Happy hiking. – Oscar
Thank you Oscar. I know you were here last year, I think! It is God’s country. We just hike in it.
Grand memories (and photos) from our trip. By the way, I flew to CA (San Jose area) via San Diego last month. While approaching from the desert, I watched the mountains east of San Diego, and thought they looked like what your hallow looks like from the sky.
You probably flew right over us. Jets come from that direction about once a day, high enough so we don’t hear them, but we see them.
We are under the flight pattern to the D.C. airports. Once, I saw our cabin and field from about 30k feet. I will wave next time I’m approaching San Diego.
Tell my when you’re flying over and I’ll take a telephoto of the jet! Seriously……
Next CA trip would probably be after Winter.
Let me know….
Beautiful landscapes (and animals).
Mother Nature does beauty best <3
Yes, she is.
🍂🍂
Beautiful photos Cindy. I’m more a mountains rivers and lakes person than a beach one.
Interesting. People probably more one than the other. I grew up on and in the ocean, but now I spend most of my time in the mountains. I think I need them both.
What a glorious golden squirrel. You should name her Cersei!
Perfect! Cersei she is and she doesn’t even need a crown~
LOL!
Stunning photos as always, cute critters and what a beautiful house and setting
Thank you Paul. It is a necessary tonic to escape to the mountains <3
Where can I sign up? 🙂 <3
Beam on over. There’s room!
Ohhhhhh, don’t even tempt me! 🙂 xx
I will, I will!
🙂 🙂 xx
That scenery… AND chipmunks!

So gorgeous Cindy– and the cabin looks so snug and cozy! But the best is that little critter! So clear and exact– every little fur point standing out. What great photos! thanks! xo
They are so cute aren’t they! The closer you see them, the more beautiful they are. Like all good living creatures….
It’s your photography that makes them see so alive and adorable!
You are a very kind soul~ <3
going out to my cabin tomorrow. Defiantly not as nice as this, but way more remote. You sure travel a lot!
I know, someday soon you and I are going bear watching! 🐻
Beautiful photos you have here. Thanks for the beauty.
Thanks more for the appreciation & cheers to you!
Adorable critters living in beautiful surroundings!
You and I are quite happy, aren’t we Linda, with the critters around! <3
Ecstatic, my friend! I only hope you are not being — or going to be — impacted by those horrendous fires.
Thank you Linda. I appreciate your concern~ 🍂
Woah! Beautiful
Very kind of you & most appreciated too!
Beautiful!
Thank you Margaret! It is beautiful~
Beautiful
Thank you Tracy & have a wonderful week!
What an amazing hide away. Such beauty. How long did you stay there Cindy? I think I would like to hibernate there for months…
We stayed in the mountains for two weeks. I could easily spend all of autumn there. There are 100 lakes to hike to and explore and hardly people in the fall.
Sounds like paradise, but I bet it gets very cold in winter. Does it snow?
Last winter the area got over 668.5 inches of snow. The Eastern Sierra can accumulate massive amounts of snow.
Oh my that is a lot of snow…
Good for skiing as long as the lifts don’t get buried!
😱⛷
What a super beautiful place full of inspiration, Cindy! Wow! I want to stay there and write a book!! 😁
💜
I second the the wish, but I’ll take photos~
Bonjour Cindy, c’est magique !
Merci beaucoup mon ami!
absolutely beautiful Cindy! and the animals are lucky to have much more beautiful place than us to live. I hope humans will never build there.
I share your hopes. We humans have this amazing ability to mess things up!
