don’t like birds on their bum!

Some fight with their friends,

while others prefer their sulfur-bath time!

They are cute enough,

to want to bring home,

although they need their prairie to roam.

Cheers to you from Yellowstone’s baby buffalos~

Magnificent! 😀
Aren’t they wonderful!
They are! There are so many wonderful and magnificent creatures on this planet — and then God added people! 😆
eeeeks is right! What was he thinking????? 😉 😉
Such wooly adorable animals. No wonder it’s called Yellowstone, the yellow is emphasised by the contrasting blue mountains. Cindy, you do a marvellous job introducing us to so many new animals and places!
Well thank you for such a thoughtful comment! I have some photos I will post of the actual yellowstones too~
You know, it is 5 am here.. and I am looking at this pics and I suddenly remembered.. to my utter horror.. there was this all-nighter with younger boys where they drank and drank, and I caught up with them just to show them I still am with them etc.. and then.. here is what I remembered.. one of them offered me a colt.. and I said, wow, that is exactly what I promised my daughter on her tenth birthday.. (which is five years away)… and he said, whoa, then take one.. four black one white.. any one.. I said give me any black one…
And now I am horrorstruck.. what?? a horse? a pony? my wife is going to kill me.. not the least because no one has seen one in this region since forever… and horror, this guy from the north is getting me one soon.. and I am sure my wife is just going to use me and the colt for the glue factory.. Talk about drunken promises.. I don’t know how to take care of a horse/pony.. absolutely no idea.. and this is not going to be some fairy tale story for sure..
and then I came here.. saw the caption.. they look cute.. huh??? ok.. as long as they remain in the pics.. 😀
Ok, long irrelevant comment.. but your pics are to blame 😀 haha They may be cute enough, but I don’t want any of those here.. though I keep asking you for all those animals in your pics.. (Ok, I admit.. the grizzly was far-fetched.. but hey.. a teeny one would be no problem).. I just hope you don’t surprise me one day with a gift of some honey-eater 😀
Sleep well~
Big babies…cute post. Cheers!
Cheers back to you!
Cute critters! My dad told me he used to service radio towers on the plains in Kansas when he was young. He said he was in great shape because the buffalo would chase him from tower to tower.
Eeeeeeks! That would be scary!
I love the bison. It’s only been in the past couple of years that I learned the story of the Goodnights, and their work on the bison’s behalf. Now, some descendents of that herd roam the panhandle. I hope they’re as cute as the ones you show here!
Was Goodnight the man who gave bison from his Texas herd to Yellowstone to restore the herd? I know they got down to a n of 20 buffalo before new ones were introduced.
Yes – in 1902 or so some Goodnight animals were given to Yellowstone. I think there were 23. A different sort of descendent of the Goodnights, Veryl, is an accomplished sculptor and Western artist. She lives in Colorado — you can read more about her here.
Fascinating, thanks for the link, will check it out!
Awww they are cute! And they look so comfortably cozy in their fuzzy wool! See these photos makes me want to spend more time frolicking and playing too… so miss my childhood! 🙂 ~Lynn
Yes, those idyllic childhood days. You get to revisit them a bit when you retire so keep the faith Lynn! 😉

“They are cute enough, to want to bring home,”—-Haha, I’ll leave the pet buffaloes to you. I’ll be content to look at them from afar. 😉
They would grow up and become quite LARGE, but there is room for large critters at The Holler. I don’t think the bulls would like it much though, and it would present additional challenges on my daily constitutional walking regime……but heck, Buffalo at The Holler? Bring ’em on!
I love your enthusiasm!
Ha! 😉
terrific work
Thank you!
Nice photos Cindy.

Aren’t they incredible and so playful!
I don’t like birds on my bum, either…..glad to see you are continuing to enjoy!
You have had birds on your bum???? I don’t think I’m jealous! 😉 😉
Ahh the buffalos have such sweet faces! Massive beauties! Hugz my friend, Lisa and Bear
They are pretty adorable aren’t they!
So cuddly 🙂 Great shots, Cindy.
Thanks Jane, they were a lot of fun to photograph!
Great, Cindy! Photos and writing are both perfect! Best!!! 🙂
Awww, you’re the best! Thanks~
Always great to see your posts and to hear from you! A big smile! 🙂

Delightfully cute baby buffalos! ∠( ᐛ 」∠)_
Cute little fluffers aren’t they!
Yup…( ᐛ )و
Truly amazing and wonderful! You are talking my language here!
I love ’em too!
So cool!
Oh, I love buffalos! We see some when we visit Medicine Park, Oklahoma. Hugs, N 🙂 <3
They are fabulous to watch aren’t they and so protective of the young~
Aww, they really are cute enough to want to bring home. Just as well I only have a pocket handkerchief garden instead of a paddock or I might be tempted.
Laughing, you could start a New Zealand buffalo herd in your garden! I can’t imagine what your neighbors would say????
I can, and it wouldn’t be polite!
Yep. I can hear it now.
They are so amazing Cindy 🙂
I am so glad you think so too! <3
Cindy, I just love buffalos. thank you for sharing these beautiful images. Hugs! Veraiconica
Hugs back to you and wonderful to hear from you!
i just listened/watched your Pacabels Canon. Magnificent. Thank you so much for posting! I have sent it on……
Impressive and cute fellows – very well captured… 🙂
Thanks much and glad you enjoyed!
very nice! 🙂
Mil grazi~
You have really captured the playful character of these big babies Cindy.
I love that, big babies! Just what they are~
These images of nature are very attractive, especially for those who live in cities or in countries far away from these wonderful scenarios. A warm greeting and a hug!
Yes, I so enjoy this glimpse of life in other places in your blog too Maria. Thank you!
I particularly like the one looking straight into the camera. He/she is probably thinking “Oh look, standing on two legs, how cute”. 🙂
They are ridiculously cute aren’t they and they grow up into incredible hulks! Be well Graham~
Powerful picts – as always – and I love the magpie getting a free ride, haha! 🙂
And a free lunch!!! He eats bugs off the bison. 😉
Those are pretty big babies! So cute though. Thanks for sharing these with us Cindy.
Yes, and they only going to get BIGGER!! 😉
Oh Cindy, thank you. When I lived in Jackson, I used to go on photo safari and rarely did I catch up with these beauties! THANK you for the reminder of what was home…
Oh you must miss it terribly. I saw two of the red newborns. The herd protected them so intensely, I couldn’t get a decent shot of them. They are probably born too late and may not make it through the winter. Such noble and iconic creatures! <3
Such magnificent creatures and well photographed by you, Cindy. 🙂
Awwww, thank you kindly~
They are not only cute but at the same time strong and powerful. How could the two combined?
Wonderful aren’t they! Well they reach full size, they are massive creatures. When they walk towards you, it captures your full attention!!
Beautiful pictures. Reminds me about this dream I once had, of lots of buffalos. In my dream they where white though 🙂
White buffalo have a lot of spiritual significance in Native American culture. If I were you, I would google what dreaming about a herd of them signifies. If you find out, let me know. I would be interested.
Will do and thanks for the tip 🙂
It is tons of articles out there on white buffalo, but mostly related to one, not a herd, especially to the prophecy of white buffalo calf woman and dream interpretations of buffalos in general. During my googling I came across a video of a Chief talking about this prophecy and then I found a picture of him in the feathered headdress. He’s the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe, And this is were it gets kind of weird..a week ago I was on a fullmoon meditation with drums. During this meditation a native american was guiding me around pointing to different things in nature, flowers, rivers, mountain and so on. But before he guided me, I saw this featherdressed native american for a little while and he looked pretty much like this guy in the photo, right down to the same color on the shirt and headdress… How creepy or cool is that!! I never would have seen this if you had not adviced me to google my dream 🙂
Regal animals and great photos…Glad you clarified that the white was salt – I was thinking early snow for a moment there!!
Yes, it does look like snow in the photos, but it is sulphur from the geysers and I am sure it is an effective delouser!
Reblogged this on Nothing Gilded, Nothing Gained–Writing Historical Fiction at Middlemay Farm.
So thoughtful of you, and much appreciated too! Thank you~
How cute. I would love that warm fur right about now.
I was puzzled by some of the bulls who were still shedding their winter coats. They better hurry up before winter hits!
I think nature is a bit confused. I was out cutting back the plants to prepare for winter and I have new plants coming up.
Sulfur bath time? Doesn’t sound like much fun… But I’m not a buffalo I guess
Laughing, no decidedly not. The sulphur delouses them I imagine, so it must be relieving.
The magpie may be a friend. 🙂 He is probably picking off bugs. Fun photos Cindy. –Curt
Yes, he definitely is doing just that. Others birds do this too with the buffalo, and of course we both saw a lot of this in Africa.
I have always been fascinated by symbiotic relations in nature. Birds on buffalo, cattle, etc. is one of the most obvious, and to me, most amusing. –Curt
Oh goodness – Baby buffalo are so cute! 😀
They are like baby bears, adorable!!!
Your photos really have that AAWW factor! I feel grateful that buffaloes have made a comeback and are no longer facing extinction (due to human avarice).
Yes! Humans seem to have a hard time learning from their mistakes. The Yellowstone herd was down to twenty animals at one point. It is remarkable they are not extinct. The wolves are back too. Over a hundred in Yellowstone.
Cindy, what can I say? These pictures are so real and gorgeous! how far away are you when you take these pictures? They are so adorable and majestic! Truly an amazing thing to be able to witness!
So happy you see them as I do! I stayed about 25 yards away from them. There has been an uptick in gorings this year from tourists who get too close to them. I took a photo of a family getting out of their car, walking over to the herd and taking a selfie in patting distance of the bull. Crazy behavior. I think they didn’t know. The park needs to print warnings in multiple languages.
wow! My girls were scrolling through all of your pictures and so amazed at the colors on the zebras, the details with the bears, everything!! so amazing! so sad about the gorings!
I love it when children follow my blog because I speak kid! Say hello to them for me and tell them thank you! <3
What a lovely happy baby! The older ones seem very moody 🙂
They are starting to develop that formidable, “don’t mess with me,” big buffalo look! 😉
What darling creatures! Love their fur and horns — they almost look like stuffed toys!!
They do, don’t they! 🙂
Gorgeous! Love their furry faces 🙂
Alison
Big little cuties aren’t they! Be well you two~
Reblogged this on Random Ramblings; Myriad Musings and commented:
Great pictures of ‘Tatanka’ – I loved seeing them when I went through Yellowstone Park a few years ago.
🙂
So happy you had a chance to experience them directly and thank you for your kindness my friend! <3
Gorgeous shots! They are adorable animals. So, I’d love to bounce one on my knee! How small are these babies?
Hmmmmm, a little large for knee bouncing I’m afraid. An adult bull can weigh up to 2,600 pounds. The little babies probably vary from 100- 250 pounds, but I am guessing. The newborns are red, completely beyond adorable, and they you could cuddle, but mama and papa would be sure not to like it, and as I mentioned, they are kinda too large to voluntarily irritate!
Copy that!
That head shot in the last photo is fantastic, Cindy.
Thanks, he is starting to look ready for a Wyomming winter isn’t he!
So cute, and yet so scary!
Just give them space and they are as docile as, well, any wild animal, hence giving them space is pretty critical! 😉
What glorious captures Cindy – what magnificent creatures. Although I’m half expecting Daniel Boon to come riding out at any moment, lol! 🙂
Boy, if Daniel Boone came riding out I would have the ultimate photo op! I would have to convince him to let me go to his cabin for the real deal photos though, and I suspect Jim would be reluctant!!
Lol, EVERYONE can trust Daniel Boone… kinda, sorta!
Except for raccoons! (Remember his hat…..)
