Oh Switzerland, you are so beautiful.
Gorner Gorge, Valais, Swiss Alps, Zermatt Switzerland.

Hiking in The Alps is justifiably world famous.
The catwalks up this gorge were constructed in the 1800’s and make for quite an impressive hike for those who are not acrophobic.

This rarely photographed mountain is here too!

There are delightful wooden Swiss chalets everywhere. Zermatt’s old town was built between the 16th-18th century. I will post some photos of these incredible wooden chalets soon.

The Matterhorn is particularly lovely in the evening when the clouds move in.

After an exhilarating day hiking, it’s time to relax and have some fondue and Swiss bier!
Cheers to you from ethereal Zermatt~

How wonderful – I really am becoming greener by the moment! Ironically, a Swiss friend of mine is over here in the UK right now, doing a walking tour of the Cotswolds. And there you are, over there! ;D
I stayed in the Cotswolds one summer after grad school. So beautiful! I would love to go again and take some photos!
Oh Cindy my dear make some room in your suitcase so I can enjoy everything with you.
Fly on over to Switzerland! I’ll pick you up at the train station my friend! <3
Lovely pictures of a country where I went a lot in my childhood, thanks
Welcome to my adopted country, Cindy! Have been living here for four years but unfortunately I have never been to Zermatt. I think it is time to visit.
Lucky you and yes, now is a very good time. The tourists are leaving and the snow hasn’t come, unless of course you want to ski!
Beautiful scenery, but I’m not sure if I’d dare trust those steps and bridges. They look very flimsy, especially that rather worn bit of bridge in the first photo.
I was leaning over the railings for fotos. My husband refused to look! Such fun and so incredibly scenic!
Cheers to you too 🙂
<3
The Swiss Alps, my favourite place in the whole world 🙂
Yes, I can easily see why. My third trip and I have barely scratched the surface…..
We love Wengen. I’d give anything to live there.
I have been working on purging my negative emotions but I have to admit — jealousy and envy have crept in a bit today :D. Glorious photos. Thank you for taking time out of your wonderous journey to share with us. <3
I haven’t shared the downsides to traveling, horrid plane rides in coach, long days traveling, stressful connections, odious time changes that wreck havoc with sleep etc., probably because I love traveling so much it’s worth all the stress. Don’t be jealous, eveything has it’s pros and cons, and lots of people would not enjoy traveling as we do…..
In truth, I have never been a “good” traveler –motion sickness — need my own space… But your beautiful photos did inspire me to put down my computer and go for a walk at the lake and in the woods. <3
Glorious. Will there be a photo of you on the Matterhorn? 😉
Hmmmmm, only if I cut and paste!!! 😉
😀 😀
Nice set; wonderful place, Cindy.
Pretty spectacular I admit. This is why the Swiss are always whistling! 😉
Oh wow! So incredibly beautiful…….. but the catwalks – uh – I may have to stay on lower ground. LOL
cate b
It is incredibly worthwhile at every elevation! <3
I so envy everyone living there! I’d always be so at peace 🙂
Every time I visit this country I have this same problem…….wondering why wasn’t I born in Switzerland!!!! 😉 They don’t even pariticipate in wars. Why should they? They are blissed out everday with the vistas and the rosti! I just ate rosti right now in St. Moritiz…….Oh my!!!!!
Fresh air..beautiful sights and Rosti, can’t go wrong 😀
Damn straight!!! 😉
😀
Breathtaking beauty! Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Thank you more for appreciating & cheers to you~
Enchanted by the beauty of the marvellous scapes and the little quaint town ! Nature can be so generous oftentimes ! Can’t wait to see more charming chalets dear Cindy 🙂
I am transfixed by the wooden chalets built is the 16th century and still here. Can’t wait to post them and so happy you enjoyed the post! Cheers & thanks~
Fantastic photos as always Cindy. Matterhorn with the evening cloud cover is stunning.
I can see why she is so photographed, she dominates the landscape!
Thank first image is one I want to experience. The area is an example of nature’s majesty.
Nature’s majesty is just the most moving phenonomona on this planet. Human-made pales in comparison. I hope you do go as I want to see YOUR pics!
The catwalk photos are wonderful !! Such a beautiful place. All of your photos are stunning, they are almost like being there 🙂
That makes me happy and motivates me too! Thank you~
Love Switzerland! What a cool walkway!
Love these serpentine catwalks in twisting high gorges. Posted about a similar one in Banff Canada. So glad you enjoyed~
Switzerland is a place I have yet to visit. It looks stunning!
It simply will not disappoint! <3
The last few are pure heaven!
Awww, so glad you think so & cheers to you~
Excellent.
Merci beaucoup!
Absolutely gorgeous! I want to go there!
I hope you do, but then you will go back again!! 😉
Probably! We usually go to places twice for some reason. I’ve always wanted to do a nordic cruise kind of thing. I think that would be a neat way to get a feel for that area.
That sounds like fun and I hope you go!
Gporgeous! When I was in Switzerland the guide kept saying, “On a clear day you can see forever.” Guess I missed a lot. 🙂
Oh you crack me up!!!! 🙂 🙂
Breathtaking!! Too beautiful, Cindy!
I think if you grew up in Switzerland you might find cactus and tumbleweeds fascinating, but you would always want to return home. The winters are a tad nippy though, but Montreux is mild year round. NOT that I am thinking of leaving the drought of The Holler…….
How glorious! That does it, I will have to make Switzerland a “stop-over” now as I’ve only ever stopped for a meal whilst passing through! 🙂
Oh yes, and please order the fondue!!! I am kicking myself for not ordering it sooner! But then it is only a gazillion calories per pot of cheese so maybe that is a good thing……..
Oh my goodness, that is beautiful!!
Yes indeed. Switzerland is a wonderland~
Always great to see your blog. Portals into other worlds and an extended sense of wonder. 🙂
You are a wonderful blogging friend Graham. Thank you~
Your photos are just beautiful. I really appreciate them, they add beauty to my days.
Awwww, your comment just added happiness to mine! <3
Cindy, so beautiful in Switzerland, I was there long time ago. Thank you for sharing! Hugs! Veraiconica
Hugz and cheers back to you my friend! <3 <3
absolutely stunning as always – when my knees were younger my husband used to escort me up Swiss and Austrian mountains. Honestly, they look wonderful from the vantage point of a cafe with good coffee and great strudel!!
Love the alpes! What I love th emost is that everything i so clean; the air, the mountain, people, and the landscape.
Whoa! You do manage to get the ultimate in pictures, Cindy! Extraordinary!!
Quite gorgeous, Cindy. I imagine the noise from the river flowing through the gorge was quite impressive as well. –Curt
Did you get to try some of the local wine with the fondue?
One disadvantage to being Swiss is that they believe their long history of peace is in part due to its large militia style army and that means National Service with annual reminders of what it’s like to be a soldier.
Such terrific pics, especially Matterhorn which looks like a cobra ready to strike. It is reported to be the most difficult peak in the Alps, after the Eiger. 🙂
I didn’t know that. I think Mt Blanc is the highest at over 15,000 feet!
Gorgeous scenery and pictures, Cindy. Was this another recent trip? How often do you travel a year and where all have you been (countries and places seen)? That would be a rather long list it seems according to your photos. They are always beautiful.
Hi Joyce,
I am still on this trip, in St. Moritz Switerland now. I have no idea how many places I have visited but I travel almost four months per year and have been on every continent. The A’s were the highlights, Antarctica, The Amazon, and Africa!
So nice to meet you and thank you for your very kind comments! Look forward to chatting in the future~
Matterhorn is majestic! And the Swiss Alps have such a gorgeous scenery everywhere…coupled with the charming chalets. Thanks for sharing these awesome pictures!
Thank you more for appreciating and best to you!
The Matterhorn looks so majestic. Must be a real breath taking to see in real life.
One definitely gets a better sense of why it is such an iconic image. Hope all is well with you my friend~
I love the places you travel too! Thanks for sharing such wonderful photos! Hugz Lisa and Bear
Hugz back to both of you and thank you too!
Breathtaking photos Cindy, it is truly an amazing place to visit.
Thank you my friend and cheers to you too!
Your photos are absolutely breathtaking.
Awwwww, so motivating! Merci~
Dear Cindy, Glad that you are enjoying all these treasures! Best wishes and have safe trips! 🙂
All the best to you and thank you too! 🙂
Cindy, it seems that you are having a blast! That’s great! Have safe trips, take care, and have fun! Cheers! 🙂 Fabio
Absolutely stunning – Love the pictures 🙂
Awwww, will keep me posting! Thank you~
Cindy, you are correct, Mt Blanc is the highest but not the most dangerous and that’s what I had meant in my comment. Take for instance the Himalayas. The K2 is lower than the Chomolungma (the Everest as we call it in Nepal), but while 5000 have summitted the Everest, only around 250 have conquered the K2. Even more dangerous is the Annapurna-1, another of the ’14 sisters’ where every third climber has perished.
Here is a ‘what-if’ I had written on the K2 that I would like you to read. It is a what-if’ on Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner’s ascent of the K2…. http://evenicanbeserious.wordpress.com/2013/01/24/the-savage/
and about the Everest…..http://spunkybong.com/2014/04/25/the-fury-of-anna-and-chomo/
🙂
Fantastic photos, Cindy.
So pleased you enjoyed them & cheers to you~
I can hear the deep bass of the Alpenhorns already… any Edelweiss still in bloom, or are they spring fllowers? Gorgeous place including that “rarely photographed” rock 🙂
Yes I still saw Edelweiss, and traveled today from St Moritz by the fabulous empty train narrow gauge train to the first of lesser visited Alpine villages. Just arrived. Nirvana! Cheers to you Happy Suisse!
Switzerland is one of my most favourite places in the world. Clean, fresh, green, natural and friendly. Beautiful photo’s Cindy.
Yes. A country that has remained mostly apart from turmoil and violence. They retreat to these beautiful Alps. I love it here.
What amazing bridges/trails/path/scarey stuff! I have to get one of those into a story somewhere.
For me the beauty overcame all! Plus I have complete confidence in Swiss engineering, you should see the wooden chalets still standing from the 16th century!
But write your story. I know it will be good and I want to read it.
You would sure get a good workout hiking there.
Indeed, I am far more active when I travel!
Amazing shots of this paradise. i would love to go there and walk that wooden walk.
Yes, you would just love it. So creatively built to give one access to natures twists, turns and intensely beautiful drama! Hope you go and walk the walk! <3
