Please click to enlarge. I think this Curl-crested Aracari’s date should spring for a good restaurant!
I don’t know about you, but if I spend this much time getting ready, I like to go to a really nice place. Have you ever seen such nice curls on a Toucan before?
I would think only the very best Amazon Basin fruit tree would do!
Plus, I can sort of tell it’s expected……
Cheers to you from Owen’s Aviary, San Diego Zoo!

What a beautiful bird!
Real stunner, I agree!!!
Such fantastic detail and color on this bird!
Quite the personality too!!!
Beautiful! The curls remind me of the curls of wood made from a chisel…I don’t know why, but that was my first thought.
Yes!!! Didn’t think of it, but that is exactly right!
Wow! That is one impressive curling iron. 😉
Think of the time spent and all the back curling!!!!!
That bird must have one tired wing! LOL
Your photos arestunning, Cindy. I always look, and wish I had time to comment on every single one of them. Just lovely.
What a beautiful specimen. The colors are vivid and had to have been painted by the hands of heaven.
Quite a remarkable fella and very friendly too!!
Super Like
Super glad!!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
I kinda think he thinks so too!!! lol~
Wow, Looking Amazing! Great find the bird!
Thank you! Actually he found us! Quite a friendly, sociable little bird! Cheers to you~
I love this bird. It’s not just his beautiful coloring, but he’s got a personality.
I would “like” this post, but I just tried and it won’t work for me right now :(.
You are completely right! It was his sociable, endearing personality, that drew my attention to him. I was going to omit the last photo, until I realized that is the one that shows his personality. Thanks for noticing~
He’s hard to forget!
Oh Cindy!!! You create magic….
You ma deah are a great friend! But we both know, that “He who made the lamb…..” made he!
Well said!! Hugs!!
back 2 u x’s 2!
Cindy, this bird is so beautiful. Have never seen one before.
Me neither and he seemed quite pleased with himself!! I certainly would be if I looked like him!
Would he donate any plumage for my fly tying :-)? Amazing photos
Errrrr……I can ask, but I’m kinda doubting it, he seemed proud as a ……errrrrr…..peacock about his curls!
Those curly feathers are amazing, I’ve never noticed that before. That’s the first valuable thing I’ve learnt this morning – Toucans have perfect curls!! 😀
absolutely beautiful
I wish I had his hair! Wash n Wear! Jeesch……no fair!
What a glamorous-looking bird!
Is it Fashion week in its neighborhood? 😀
He has his own cable TV show honey……”Best in Bird!”
L-O-L!!!
Incredible curls! Makes me think of the curly ribbons on top of a gift parcel.
It isn’t really fair…….think of all the time we have spent in our lives curling……
Exactly!
Do you have the address of the hairdresser for me? He looks STUNNING! Pawkiss for a Wonderful day 🙂
I do. But I am sorry. There are limits. A girl has to think of herself after all and I am just not willing to give up his number. Ask me for anything else……..
beautiful. well accessorized and colorful. have a great day!
I think he should become a famous celebrity stylist. He has the brains for it…….
that would be a perfect job for him 🙂 he’s got the brains and the looks for that
Is that ‘hair’ for real??? Stunning shot Cindy!
Oh the hair, hair, hair, I wish people would stop rubbing it in! Just because I have tried and failed to get this hairdo for my entire life! It is so discouraging! And he just flies around with it!
Beautiful creatures! 😀
Lucky ducks…..errrrr….Toucans!
Simply stunning but the curls just don’t look real.
That is EXACTLY what I say about Hollywood celebrities!
And they aren’t!
Pretty birds,Cindy.
He knows it too!
Love it! 😀 😀 😀
Me 3!!!
Great~
He probably is a little bit vain though…….
Grande uccello
E ‘un onore aver incontrato~
Cindy, you’re my favorite in the world of the WORLD PRESS. Do you do the photography yourself? They’re breath taking always…
Awww. You just made my day! No one else would make the fool out of themself that I willingly do with a camera…you should see how ridiculous I look, especially running after birds!
I love toucans… here are my Costa Rican birdies… 🙂

Your photos and birds are exquisite! Bravo!!
I do use a curling iron but never get these results.
Uses a little too much blue eye shadow for my taste. lol
Oh just admit it, you’re jealous! It was hard for me, but I had to do it too!!! 🙂
Amazingly beautiful. Just goes to show that what Man’s creativity can think of, Nature somewhere has already conceived.
Shakti
Nature is so far ahead of us, our heads are still spinning! Cheers to you and thank you~
This bird is so pretty …. it looks fake. Wow… isn’t nature amazing.
Truth is much stranger, and more interesting, than fiction! Cheers to you~
You’ve done it justice in your portraits. It’s absolutely mesmerizing in its gorgeous plumes.
And he never even gets to look in a mirror!!!! lol~
Undoubtedly a male! And how handsome and self confident he is. Grand photos as always. 🙂
Handsome little charmer isn’t he…..but he’s a sweetie-pie too….some birds just have it all!
THAT is one fancy bird. The colors are just beautiful and the expressions adorable. Thank you for this great post.
Nothing can bear the birds & the bees, and the flowers & the trees! So happy you enjoyed~
It looks like a bow is on top of his head!!! WOW!!! And those black and white feathers under his eye… This is really something!
But how about the dreads down the back…….the more I look the more jealous I get!
Gorgeous!
oh my, what a spectacular fellow!!! love the colors and the top of his head is awesome…in a couple of photos it looks as though the beak is cracked along the edge???
This is comment in the parrot and toucan family……it is a type of peeling and can be caused by nutritional deficits, he probably is overdosing on mangoes and ignoring his leafy greens….or something!
I’m so stunned…I have never seen Toucan before. Gorgeous!
I am perfectly jazzed to introduce you then! I confess to having never seen one quite like this dapper & debonair dude! I did see regular Toucans flying in flocks in The Amazon. They looked rather comical with these hug proboscis’s getting in their way!
I think he (assume it’s male) knows how gorgeous he is 🙂 Thank you so much for the post, Cindy!
Looks like he just came from the beauty shop! Love the curls and brilliant colors.
I think he did have some “work done,” just like those “celebrities with no makeup” shots, something must be rigged…….
Wow, some people would pay a lot for a “crest” like that!
Namely yours truly! Think of it. No blow-drying, no gels, shampoo or mousse…….WHO is this bird’s stylist?
Nature is that bird’s stylist, so why can’t Nature have given us feathers instead of hair?
Stunning colours – and a very beautiful bird!
Sweet and friendly too! Some people…..errrrrr……birds, have it all!
Those colors. Very festive and perfect for this time of year with that ribbon-like topping. How wonderful. Happy Holidays to you and your family, Cindy. xoxo
He certainly was in the holiday spirit wasn’t he? Tch, tch, it’s a little early though! How gauche! Cheers & Happy Holidays to you and yours!
What a completely bizarre bird – I want one to perch on top of the Christmas tree please Cindy! RH
I’ll head over and have a chat and see if something can be arranged…….
Cool!! Are those curls for real?!! Amazing! 😉
I still suspect some cosmetology student gone awry, was lurking about with a curling iron…… I looked but couldn’t find the culprit!
😀
It looks like a water color paint factory blew up nearby! I don’t see a color missed on that bird 🐦
Laughing! Still laughing…. Pluperfect description!!
Too stunning for words, Cindy. Audubon would have been proud of you (and jealous of your camera). I’ve seen crests, horns, long slender tails, but don’t think I’ve ever seen a curly top !!!
Beautiful pics – great detail & color, Cuz.
The curly-top was news to me as well! I searched for a keeper hiding with a curling iron but could find none such!
Great pictures of the Liberace of the birds. Truly impressive.
Thank you! I thought he was most impressive and it wasn’t just skin deep, his personality was charming as well! Cheers to you~
Fancy hair – That’s quite the do on that bird!
I know. I am jealous.
A delightful and amusing post Cindy. I love crazy birds, do not tell my pommepal or I will be dining out.
laughing…….still laughing!
Wow, is this man made or that is nature of the bird?
Happily for the bird, it al au-naturel!! Wild isn’t it!!
Beautiful. You outdid yourself with this one.
Actually the bird did it for me….lucky bird!!!!
Beautiful! I saw a toucan once years ago at a zoo. I can remember comparing it to the bird on the Fruit Loops box. 🙂
Oh yes he was crazy for fruit loops!!!
High Fashion Feathers – FANTASTIC!
The chicks on the runways can’t hold a feather to this tweeter!
