Create their own vibrant light.
Phaninopepla, dark as midnight,
in full light, is radiant dark blue, with deep red eyes.
Male orioles, kings of beauty, rock yellow and black,
while male grosbeaks flash black, orange and white.
Mr Jay will drive our blues away,
as hummingbirds fly their own private rainbows!
Cheers to you from The Holler’s colorful creatures~

Your Holler Friends~
Check out the critters who dropped by The Holler in the last week or so.
Grosbeaks are building nests all over Hollerdom.
Red winged blackbirds are new arrivals and are hopefully nesting too.
The orioles own the place, and their distinctive hanging nests are up and going.
Yep, we put out a snoopy toddler pool for wildlife watering.
Wily E. sniffed it a bit and helped himself mid-day, soon after we filled it! Cheeky wily one.
Osprey came to check out all the action.
Maybe he followed the bald eagle.
One Ceanothus Moth typically shows up each year, usually in May. This one was early and had a five-inch wingspan!
Cheers to your from your Holler critter friends~
Woody, Beep & Feathered Friends~
Woody Woodpecker is so shy!
He sits on the roof and watches the wild birds on the feeders but will never eat, so I have bought a special woodpecker nut mix in hopes of drawing him in. For now though, he just watches from afar.
Beep-Beep spends much of his days snooping at us through windows. Here he is watching me at my desk as I blog. This was shot through the window so there is some distortion. He was about a foot from my face.
The baby house finches are still caging meals from their parents.
Grosbeaks are new Holler residents.
Hawks always watch over everything, and have never yet gone after any of the birds.
Although they certainly like to watch them closely!
Cheers to you from The Holler’s Audubon garden.
