Cannon Beach~

in Oregon stretches for seemingly endless misty miles.

Haystack Rock on the beach is famous both for it’s unique grandeur,

and for the variety of wildlife it harbors,

including a nesting colony of tufted puffins,

unless of course these guys decide to nest on the top of the rock and scare all the puffins away!

Harlequin ducks seem unfazed by the eagles and swim happily all around Haystack.

Many birds can be found in nearby estuaries and ponds, including tree swallows,

scaups,

and ring necked ducks.

Bundles of baby beach bunnies sleep on our ocean front patio,

using our presence to keep the eagles away.

Apparently in the 1980’s domesticated rabbits were released into the wild and bred like bunnies!

Cheers to you from Canon Beach~

  1. For a gal whose knowledge of the state is reduced to Portland once visited, what a wondrous collection of photos. Like all the nature ones but who on earth cannot immediately fall in love with your gorgeous small bunnies . . . even if they are curious enough to wander indoors if allowed . . .

        1. We are heading to Greenland soon….. Can you believe it???? 😉 I’m afraid he may not let me back in because I may once have disagreed with him publicly…..

  2. These are a delight Cindy, and I love the bunnies. You too had that problem of them being released. When the English rocked up here I think they thought they would be a good foods source, and 95 million rabbits later they had stripped every blade of grass everywhere. Then to make it worse they released a virus to eradicate them and then the rabbits built up a resistance to that so then they tried another virus. This one was very nasty…but, have a guess who has started to build in numbers again 🤣
Great photo’s my friend, a definite range of paradise. The eagle stood tall and elegant for his portrait. Thank you for the share. Oh, and our rabbits are just plain old grey, you’ve got at least a little cute fluffy variety 😂❤️🙏

    1. This paragraph reads like a summary statement of world wide wildlife (mis) management practices. We went on a boat trip from Australia to New Zealand with a wildlife biologist and he told us all about New Zealand’s sorry history of management. His thesis seemed to be that there is never any consistent effective long term plan in effect, and plans dramatically contradict each other over time, effectively cancelling each out. This is certainly true in the US where mis-management practices change every four years.

  3. Dear Cindy
We love these bunnies like Mark. They are fashionable gray. Our leverets are old-fashioned brown.
Fine animal portraits 👍 Thanks for sharing

  4. Cindy, you are in good hands among harmless creatures. Isn’t that happiness?
You have a special ability to find deserted places where no one bothers you to be alone with yourself and your thoughts. It looks as if you are on another planet. (Smile…)

    1. You are a thoughtful person and friend Alexander. And absolutely yes! I love being around all the creatures great and small and avoid crowds as much as possible. Thank you & take good care my friend.

Looks lovely Cindy. Believe it or not we have a lot of these creatures living in our back yard. The other day a mallard dock stopped for a rest, bunnies and skunks, coyotes and fox too.
