The Other Cali II~

(click/tap to enlarge)

Mono Lake in California,

is a pristine,

paradise,

in winter.

There is no one here,

but the lake,

the tufas,

and you!

Tufas are delicate limestone structures formed over thousands of years,

by the interaction of fresh and alkaline water.

Cheers to you from Mono Lake in the winter~

    1. Mono Lake gets its name from the Mono Native American people. The Mono people lived in the basin until the gold rush forced them out of their ancestral lands

    1. The lake is drying up because it’s water has been diverted to Los Angeles for many decades. It is a delicate ecosystem which migrating birds and wildlife depend upon. Longstanding efforts to save the lake are not working. It is no where near as toxic as The Salton Sea but it is still being damaged and depleted, and alkali dust storms occur during the winds in summer ⸙🏞

  1. Gasp! I have never heard of this place, Cindy. Your photos are stunning! I love the reflections. Thanks for explaining what a tufa is. I was wondering about “mineral deposits on the land” but I see that it’s more than that. How amazing. I’m off to look at part 1. Hugs.

  2. Là tout n’est qu’ordre et beauté
    Luxe, calme et volupté
There, nothing but order and beauty
    Luxury, calm and voluptuousness
    (Baudelaire).
    Thank you Cindy.
