Meet Mr. Red Rock Crab. He is quite large! We have been traveling out of wifi and satellite range on the Pacific side of the Baja California Penninsula in Mexico and into The Sea of Cortez through the narrows where the two oceans meet.

This view between the rocks is where The Pacific Ocean meets The Sea of Cortez.

This is a pristine, unpopulated desert ecosystem extending for hundreds of miles, surrounded by oceans that are teeming with wildlife.

This bull sea lion is suspicious and watches me with one eye,

before he relaxes and resumes his nap.

Rare, rarely seen, huge, up to 5000 pounds, and endangered, this Sunfish basks on the surface of the ocean sideways to absorb heat from the sun before he dives deep into the cold ocean to forage. For more click on following link:

Dolphin abound and can be seen alone,

or hunting in huge superpods,

that can consist,

of thousands.

This pod surrounded our boat and swam around it for close to an hour.

They were noisy,

slamming their bodies and tails on the surface of the ocean,

to stun the fish,

whom they herd into,

balls and consume.

This spotted box fish is left at peace because he is poisonous.

Even the always ravenous Snowy Egret won’t touch him!
Cheers to you from The Sea of Cortez~

Wow! Love the pictures…that spotted fish is a beaut!
Thank you! That fish has the confident, relaxed demeanor of all poisonous critters. Good for him!! Happy you like him & cheers დ
Great photos. The sea loin looks like it wanted to take a nap right there but just needed to get a little further.
He has to make sure he didn’t need to worry about me or nip me or something before he resumed his well needed nap!! 😉
This a wonderful post Cindy! It seems there still are unspoiled spots on earth!
Yes! Thankfully there still are places empty of human interference. Seeing the endless stretches of unspoiled ecosystem does my heart good. Thanks much Peter & cheers to you დ
Fabulous post on so many levels. Loved it. Reposting it so more people can enjoy it. Thank you.

🙃
Great photos. Looks like a good trip down the Pacific side.
Thanks & yes. But the dolphin were in Magdalena Bay დ
WOW! These are gorgeous nature photos; I would even say awe-inspiring. My husband told me about the pods of dolphins that would follow the ship when he was on sea duty in the Navy. They provided good entertainment.
Thank you Liz! I think the propellers stir up the fish so they congregate. I have seen several bull sea lions (big guys) jump on the back of boats here to try and get fish. They don’t leave either!! დ
You’re welcome, Cindy! I had no idea that bull seals actually jump on the back of boats.
In Alaska they sometimes sink smaller boats doing this….
Yikes!
OMG! Cindy! Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous photos! Mr. Red Rock Crab ROCKS! A piece of artwork he is, especially when I enlarged the photo! Brilliant colors. Bull sea lion really makes me laughs–reminds me of a few people I’ve met in my lifetime!
Laughing…… Yes Mr. Sea Lion reminds me of the type of folk you tiptoe around to avoid waking from their nap!!! Cheers to & thank you დ
These are incredible pictures
Honored. Thank you very much Herald დ
Fantastic photos! Remember the Sea of Cortez from years ago – sea kayak trip beginning in Loreto. It’s beautiful!
Yes. It is incredible. We will be in Loreto soon and I am looking forward to it. I have never been დ
What an exciting boat trip. It’s hard to imagine large groups of dolphins swimming in close proximity unless you’re actually there on the day.
What a great Snowy Egret shot.
Much appreciated Vicki. Thank you. Dolphins are always thrilling for me to see in the wild დ
Beautiful captures, Cindy, especially the snowy egret.
Thank you Lynette. Egrets are always dressed to impress დ
Oh wow, these photos are fantastic! What a beautiful experience this must be!
Thanks so much Susan. Much appreciated. Being in the middle of a dolphin super-pod is an incredible experience დ
Thank you for all the wonderful photos. The captions are apt.

Yes! Wonderful to see the miles of landscape with no human presence დ

What an amazing array of wonderful creatures, Cindy. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos.
Thank you much more Tanja for appreciating them & cheers to you my friend დ
How much fun that the pod remained around you for an hour! All are extraordinary photos!
You are so kind & so appreciated. Thank you & cheers to you დ
These are all amazing Cindy. Here I am for years trying to get a shot of a dolphin…and you are ‘drowned’ in them. It must have been a delight among them all 🤣
And that rare picture of that sun fish is incredible, it is definitely not something you see every day for sure. But maybe unlike your sea lion checking you out, probably seeing if those humans were going to disrupt his snooze 🤗
Great share kind lady…and so jealous of how much you must be suffering with all this in your journey 🤣❤️🙏
Thank you for making me smile with your wonderful comments Mark. I read once that seeing a sunfish basking on the surface looks a big floating blob and that is exactly what it looked like. Of course I had to fix my lens on it, and it turned out the blob was actually interesting. But then, I had to convince readers this blob was also interesting. Thank you for knowing Mark & cheers to you დ
Wow! Fabulous Cindy!
I love all these photos. Thank you!!!
🕊
Cheers to you Resa & Happiest Holidays my friend დ

Wow, what a wildlife fiesta. Seeing that dolphin pod must have been amazing!
Alison
Hi Alison & best to Don. Wild dolphins in any number are always a thrill for me. Hope all is well with you two დ
All is well thanks. Hope all is well with you too. I’ve been taking a bit of a blogging break, but back at it now.
Understood.
Seeking a sunfish that close must have been amazing. I’ve only see one and we were a couple hundred feet above it. Lucky you! Maggie
I have see a total of none before this, and I grew up next to the ocean. I know one person who encountered one long distance swimming years ago. It is the biggest bony fish in the sea and sadly very rare now დ
Amazing creatures here, Cindy! The spotted fish and that Buddha-esque sea lion are my favourites.
OMG! I am going to call him Buddha. Perfection! Thank you Audrey & cheers დ
You’re welcome, Cindy!

Absolutely wonderful wildlife photos Cindy
Honored Sheree. Cheers to you my friend & thank you დ
Always a pleasure

A typically excellent haul from a special location. The crab’s eyes look like carefully placed water drops; I especially like the first, lone, airborne dolphin.
I love your poetic and so very apt description of the crabs eyes Derrick! Wonderful. Thank you my friend & the best of The Holidays to you and yours დ
Fantastic portraits, as ever.
Sincerely appreciated Margaret. Thank you & be well my friend დ
Such beautiful and amazing wildlife that you encounter! I wish I could join you in your travels! 😃
I wish you could too! I just met two very large St. Bernards that love swimming & fishing in the Sea of Cortez today. Wolfie would love to swim and fish with them დ
Too right! Playing with the big boys ! 😃
What a wonderful display of so many beauties around that coast. Enjoy your trip and warmth!
Thank so much my friend. It is always good to be with the wild ones. Today there bunches of blue footed boobies. I only saw their feet when they flew! Love them. Happiest of Holidays and all the best to you in Spain დ
Thank you Cindy and all the best for this season of hope and peace.

Really beautiful.
Thank you დ
