Nervous Napper~

(click/tap to enlarge or you won’t see the details of this tiniest-flying-wonder)

Holler Hummers,

are avid human watchers.

Especially when they need a safe siesta spot.

They know the nearby human keeps attacking hummers at bay,

allowing the tired hummer to nap-away.

Cheers to you from the nervously napping Holler hummer~

      1. Not meant to be a comment that doesn’t appreciate the spiritual significance of the hummingbird. This time in Turkey has sent me scrambling for any attempt at humor… Very difficult adapting to the environment – alien to American culture. It’s a character building exercise, I’m trying to survive – that in itself is a valuable experience!

          1. It’s part of solo travel, but being in a country where English is rarely spoken makes it a bigger challenge… It’s a good exercise in self reliance. Turkey is going through many changes as is Europe in general. It’s a volatile time and you can feel it. Met a restaurant owner from Istanbul who speaks perfect English and talked his ear off. Also a traveler from Kazakhstan who enlightened me about what’s “really” happening in Russia. Thanks – feeling better :o)

    1. They don’t 😉 But they do go into a stasis state where their metabolism and heart rate slows, allowing them to not burn up so many calories. They would starve if they didn’t nap დ

  1. Deborah

Still awhile before the first hummer arrival in Colorado.

O/T: Started a new WP page. I sent an invite to you. If the invite is not in your inbox, it might be in your spam folder. Half of my WP-related email goes straight to spam for some reason.

  2. Sweet shots Cindy. Am I correct in thinking the hummer is actually smaller than the photo of him/her?
Also, how cool to see the eyes closed. Thank you!

    1. Despite their intensely hyperactive natures, they do need to rest and sleep regularly. Their metabolism and heart rates are so accelarated, if they didn’t nap and sleep they would starve. When they rest their metabolism slows down much like bears when they hibernate დ

  3. What an exciting find Cindy. I would also be excited to see this little guy, which we never see. They can attract attention which does present its own element of stress for these birds.

    1. It’s interesting. Despite being the smallest bird in the world, they are also some of the bravest. Our population at The Holler of around 40 or so birds (in full summer) tend not to be afraid of us. They have flown through the house before, in one door and out the other. My grandsons call them my pets. They eat from our hands and fly so close to your face, they practically touch your nose! დ

    1. You are so welcome Liz. I am Happy you enjoyed. Despite how fast and hyperactive they are, they do nap regularly. They have to in order to slow down their metabolism and heart rate დ
