Did He Who Made the Lamb~

(click/tap to enlarge)

Notice the kids having a frolic on their own?

Not a chance! Clever Mama keeps a covert eye.

It’s best to let them think they’re independent!

The human interloper is quite a curious sight,

even the tiny tots,

pause,

to take,

a peek.

The teenagers have more freedom,

but the herd of ewes and lambs,

always stay together.

Cheers to you from The Southwest Desert Mountain Sheep~

Note: Desert Bighorn Sheep are a sub-species of Big Horn Sheep adapted to desert life. They are a federally designated endangered species.

  1. You did well to find this small herd Cindy, picture of what it was before the days of animal husbandry. I am sure that alpha male will keep them well protected and in line.

    1. Interestingly enough, the desert bighorns are matrilinial herds, protected by the ewes. Typically two ewes function as babysitters at all times and swap jobs. The rams don’t stay with the herd and adult males and females don’t live together which is why I didn’t photograph any adult males with this herd. 🐐

  2. Let’s not say interlopers. Let’s say “stewards.” That state of being where all intent is focused to doing what is rightmost for everyone. No effort at all when the intention is clear. And remembering their existence serves us as much as ours can serve theirs. Thank you Cindy.

      Happy Easter!
Thanks very much Derrick. Did you notice how outsize the hooves are in comparison to the body? Like puppies that are going to be big!

  3. Photos of these dear animals are so very dear Cindy,
did you just happen upon them accidentally? Whatever
the reason the photos are super and well worth sharing!
    Thank you dear heart!

      1. Not sure of the exact species, however, I used to love watching the mountain sheep do their thing while I sat in a boat, entertaining myself while my dad spent hours fishing. Thank you, Cindy and happy Easter to you and yours. 🐰

  4. These are so cute Cindy, you help us to become more aware of this beauty we live in. And as such to care for before that balance is lost. I did my bit this morning in forcing myself to cuddle some puppies…I almost went beyond it and increased my family. These furry creatures certainly do that to us don’t they? 🤣❤️🙏
