Surfers amongst storm waves. North Peaks at Blacks Beach in La Jolla, California.

California’s huge waves disrupted lots of sea life. This Stellar Sea Lion snoozing on the rocks doesn’t belong in La Jolla waters. I am seeing exotic birds blown off course and lots of other interesting displaced critters I will be sharing with you in my next posts.

These surfers seemed to do more watching than riding.

Even the resident sea lions are agitated,

by the waves,

especially as they attempt hazardous landings on the rocky shore.

In the upper right you can see the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Park,

and in the upper left, Del Mar California.
Cheers to you from still stormy La Jolla~

The waves are very beautiful yet dangerous. Amazing! Lovely photos, Cindy. ❤️
So appreciated John. Thank you.
You’re welcome. ☺️
Nice place to hear the sound of ocean.
And I love the sound.
Beautiful sea and seal scapes.
Thank you Timothy.
Wild beauty. Love these pics.
So pleased you do & thank you!
✨🎶🌿 appreciate your energy to capture such amazing shots always.
Your photos are impressive! I so adore that you saw Sea Lions. That is awesome!
Thanks very much Kymber. If you like seals and sea lions, stay tuned, there are many more close-ups ahead!
I love sea life in general. The top of my bucket list is to see Dolphins and Orcas in the ocean. If I accomplished that, I would be so happy.
I want you to accomplish that. It is thrilling and I hope you do it.
While viewing your fine pictures I had the thunder oft the huge waves in my ear…
Stay safe, dear Cindy!
Smiling…. We live in a very small world my dear friend. One person’s wave affects us all.
It baffles everyone, animals and humans…. those storms. We had one too .. not easy!
Yes! Big storms are baffling.
Do you think that the waves might be due to the earth quakes in Japan?
Leslie
All I know is that storms in the Pacific Ocean near Alaska resulted in the waves. There was rain and wind too, which I don’t think an earthquake would trigger. However, seismic activity in Japan may have been going on for awhile before the big quakes hit, and big quakes do cause big waves, even at quite a distance. My best answer is I don’t know about the interplay of variables. The waves are still up, but not nearly as big.
All I can write is Marvelous Cindy. The shots you take and your style of expression about them, gives a clear picture of how knowledgeable you are and how much I learned about your shots of animals, birds, humans, sky .
I am sincerely touched, and have always been, by your thoughtful kindness my dear friend. Thank you so very much. I wish you and your family Health & Happiness in The New Year. 𒀭*𒀮 ๖ۣۜH𝐚𝒑𝒑ɣ ቢēⴓ ɣē𝐚ṛ 𒀮*𒀭
Hmmm…I miss the ocean!
I understand.
:0)
Such incredible pictures. Stay safe.
Great photos as usual! The Oregon coast is also wild!
great shots – love these lions…
a good time – dear Cindy !!!
Thank you very much!
So beautiful..
Beautiful click.
Honored. Thank you so much!
💙
Stellar Sea Lion has it right. “Let me snooze, catch some sun.”
Any rain, any wind with the big wave action?
As I started to read, I thought the sea lions were going to be the surfers Cindy was referring to… Seems like even they were thrown off balance.
Cindy, the photos do credit to your ability to capture the majestic and unforgiving nature of, well, nature.
I so appreciate your very thoughtful words. Thank you. Nature’s savage beauty is a wonder to behold.
Critters don’t waste rest time! And, yes, wind, rain and clouds. It is raining lightly now.
Your images are simply amazing ❣️
So appreciated. Thank you very much Luisa.
You’re so welcome 💐
My goodness. The only thing I know of La Jolla is its mention in a Beach Boys song. Beautiful coastline but, those waves do look scary. Do you know what is causing all this?
It is a storm in the Pacific which basically slammed into the entire California coast. (I love that Beach Boys song!)
Ok. Yeah. I’ve caught bits & pieces from the news but, they weren’t entirely clear.
Here’s hoping humans and wildlife alike can safely navigate their way when the environment is upended like your photos illustrate, Cindy. I’m sure the surfers are thrilled, but sometimes it can be a be-careful-what-you-wish-for situation!
I was buoyed to see lots of sea lion pups on the rocks with their moms. It must have been especially frightening for the pups.
I am sure it was…and I’m going to be rooting hard for those moms now!💗
I love the Pacific coast, California especially. Two secrets viewing your posts. One, expanding the image makes it all feel more present tense. Two, when you do ocean I turn on Monterey Bay live webcam & get the live real sound of the sea. Delicious. Thanks Cindy.
Ahhhh……I am blessed with friends like you Neil. Thank you very much & ✴.·´¯`·.·★ ꔠʌƿƿႸ Ꞑᶒພ 𐍅ᶒʌ໗ ★·.·`¯´·.✴
The water looks so inviting, but I don’t fancy swimming with these guys, or the sharks that cruise past there. Gorgeous to look at though.
There has been lots of orca activity here too lately which is unusual. They are hunting and eating dolphins.
I wouldn’t trust those creatures one bit. I think they’d eat anything they can manage to catch.
Right. And we don’t want to get bit!
I would think a surfer would have to choose carefully where and when to catch a wave, pretty scary conditions!
Yes. If you compare wave height with surfer size, you can see these are really big waves and they are coming from all sorts of different directions.
Wow! Gorgeous pictures, Cindy! The ocean looks beautiful with its huge waves, but more to be admired from a distance, I think. 😉
Yes, as is often the case with natural wonders.
Stunning shots Cindy
Thank you Sheree & ✴.·´¯`·.·★ ꔠʌƿƿႸ Ꞑᶒພ 𐍅ᶒʌ໗ ★·.·`¯´·.✴
Thanks Cindy Happy New Year to you too
Wow! Those waves are serious business! Displacing wildlife so you can capture them on “film” before they leave for their normal shores. Lucky us 🙂
Awww…. I am such a lucky blogger because I have friends like you Dale. Thank you.
It goes both ways, my friend!
You capture Nature’s power so very beautifully, Cindy, and those poor perplexed sea lions as well. Yes, the surfers had better watch, and carefully: surf’s up, Waaay up!
Wonderful photos, Cindy…though I do feel bad for all the bewildered wildlife! 💗
Yes. Thank you Teresa. We both do.
Gosh, I hadn’t really considered the impact on the wildlife like the sea lions. So much upheaval on land – and now on sea, too. Thanks for showing up the impact of the stormy waves!
Thank you more for caring Sheila.
Sun + Seals + Surf add up to a good day.
Yep! We share similar values Frank.
Weather has gotten odder over the years. Here it is January, and we in Central Illinois really haven’t had much to speak of in the way of snow. And the number of clear days has been eclipsed by how many gray days we’ve had. Tis a puzzlement.
Oh, I understand! I now longer read weather forecasts, they can’t accurately predict weather due to climate change.
The seas are rough when Sea Lions find it difficult.
So true!
Terrific images, Cindy. Exciting surf! 🏄♂️ 🌊
Thanks very much Jane.
Amazing images! I especially like the sea lions.
These photos are also excellent. I hope no wildlife have been injured or killed as a result of the storm.
Thank you for caring Liz & be well my friend.
You’re welcome, Cindy. 🙂

Stunning photos as always Cindy… the power of the ocean never ceases to amaze me. ♥
Yes, thank you Sally, the ocean puts us all into perspective.
Fabulous shots, and an interesting situation.
Thank you, Cindy!
Although, you can’t fool me. That sea lion is a surfer, who turns into a sea lion when they are not on their board surfing.
It’s a sort of “The Little Mermaid” tale, but for surfers and sea lions.
The question remaining; Is that you snoozing on the rocks?
The sea waters and surfing saga continues.
Definitely me sleeping. Smiling. When things get really rough, I go to sleep. Love to you Resa.
What gorgeous shots, Cindy. It takes my breath away. Hugs.
So honored Teagan. Thank you my friend and be well.
fabulous photos – I can almost feel the surf
So appreciated Chris! Thank you.
Those really are huge waves, Cindy! I love the snoozing sea lion, and I hope the local moms and pups will be OK. Thanks for the great photos!
Thank you more for caring Audrey & be well.
Those are very nice closeup photos of sea lions. 👍
Merci beaucoup mon Ami.
Avec plaisir, cher amie. 😊🌷

Simply beautiful ❤️
Grazie mille.
You’re most welcome.

Beautiful pictures especially the sea lions! But stay safe so close to those large waves 😊 Maggie
Thank you for caring Maggie & be well.
Cindy, thank you so much for these powerful and beautiful photographs!
You are so very welcome Charles. Thank you for your kind thoughtfulness over the years my friend.
The napping seal is adorable. I’m sorry everyone was thrown off course.
I wonder if the critters enjoy the new locales? Sort of like a trip with free transport! 😉
Well, I think the surfs up Cindy 🤣 Mind you, I’ll swap that for a Sea Lion snooze on the rocks 😂 Great pictures dear lady, thank you for a wild ride in La Jolla 🤣❤️🙏
I’m with you and sea lion Mark. He spends lots of time in the sea and knows when it is a good time to take an extended break.
Hi Cindy, those are some crazy waves! It must be a treat to get to see exotic wildlife, though.
It is wonderful. I once saw Brown Boobies in the Salton Sea. I love how one never knows where a bird might show up!
That’s true, birds can show up in random places! We get both Arctic and tropical birds showing up in northeast Ohio sometimes.
Love them about. They don’t read the ornothology texts!
That’s true!
Oh wow, those waves are so strong and fierce!! I hope surfers who brave the waves and the animals in the waters stay safe. I want to hug that snoozing sea lion. Where do you think it came from?
I think he got washed down by the waves from Northern California. He looked exhausted, but well fed.
Oh my, poor guy was swept down far. I can imagine how exhausted he must be. That nap is doing him some good!
They all look totally exhausted. I am glad they are resting.
Yes, they need their rest! Hopefully, they will stay safe and well.
You are turning this into one of your trademark photo stories. Well done
Honored & touched Derrick. Thank you my friend.
I feel for the animals…. will hold them in my prayers..
You’re kindness is lovely my friend.
Nature can be both beautiful and scary at the same time. You captured it!
Yes, nature’s incredible savage beauty. Thank you Jennie.
You are welcome, Cindy.
