Stellar Seas~

Surfers amongst storm waves. North Peaks at Blacks Beach in La Jolla, California.

California’s huge waves disrupted lots of sea life. This Stellar Sea Lion snoozing on the rocks doesn’t belong in La Jolla waters. I am seeing exotic birds blown off course and lots of other interesting displaced critters I will be sharing with you in my next posts.

These surfers seemed to do more watching than riding.

Even the resident sea lions are agitated,

by the waves,

especially as they attempt hazardous landings on the rocky shore.

In the upper right you can see the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Park,

and in the upper left, Del Mar California.

Cheers to you from still stormy La Jolla~

    1. All I know is that storms in the Pacific Ocean near Alaska resulted in the waves. There was rain and wind too, which I don’t think an earthquake would trigger. However, seismic activity in Japan may have been going on for awhile before the big quakes hit, and big quakes do cause big waves, even at quite a distance. My best answer is I don’t know about the interplay of variables. The waves are still up, but not nearly as big.

  1. All I can write is Marvelous Cindy. The shots you take and your style of expression about them, gives a clear picture of how knowledgeable you are and how much I learned about your shots of animals, birds, humans, sky .

    1. I am sincerely touched, and have always been, by your thoughtful kindness my dear friend. Thank you so very much. I wish you and your family Health & Happiness in The New Year. 𒀭*𒀮 ๖ۣۜH𝐚𝒑𝒑ɣ ቢēⴓ ɣē𝐚ṛ 𒀮*𒀭

Stellar Sea Lion has it right. “Let me snooze, catch some sun.”
Any rain, any wind with the big wave action?

    1. As I started to read, I thought the sea lions were going to be the surfers Cindy was referring to… Seems like even they were thrown off balance.

Cindy, the photos do credit to your ability to capture the majestic and unforgiving nature of, well, nature.

  3. My goodness. The only thing I know of La Jolla is its mention in a Beach Boys song. Beautiful coastline but, those waves do look scary. Do you know what is causing all this?

  4. Here’s hoping humans and wildlife alike can safely navigate their way when the environment is upended like your photos illustrate, Cindy. I’m sure the surfers are thrilled, but sometimes it can be a be-careful-what-you-wish-for situation!

  5. I love the Pacific coast, California especially. Two secrets viewing your posts. One, expanding the image makes it all feel more present tense. Two, when you do ocean I turn on Monterey Bay live webcam & get the live real sound of the sea. Delicious. Thanks Cindy.

  6. Wow! Those waves are serious business! Displacing wildlife so you can capture them on “film” before they leave for their normal shores. Lucky us 🙂

  7. You capture Nature’s power so very beautifully, Cindy, and those poor perplexed sea lions as well. Yes, the surfers had better watch, and carefully: surf’s up, Waaay up!

  8. Gosh, I hadn’t really considered the impact on the wildlife like the sea lions. So much upheaval on land – and now on sea, too. Thanks for showing up the impact of the stormy waves!

  9. Weather has gotten odder over the years. Here it is January, and we in Central Illinois really haven’t had much to speak of in the way of snow. And the number of clear days has been eclipsed by how many gray days we’ve had. Tis a puzzlement.

  10. Fabulous shots, and an interesting situation.
    Thank you, Cindy!

Although, you can’t fool me. That sea lion is a surfer, who turns into a sea lion when they are not on their board surfing.
It’s a sort of “The Little Mermaid” tale, but for surfers and sea lions.
The question remaining; Is that you snoozing on the rocks?

The sea waters and surfing saga continues.

  11. Well, I think the surfs up Cindy 🤣 Mind you, I’ll swap that for a Sea Lion snooze on the rocks 😂 Great pictures dear lady, thank you for a wild ride in La Jolla 🤣❤️🙏
