Big waves barreling,

onto Boomers Beach,

in La Jolla California,

during the current storm.

La Jolla Cove,

which rarely breaks,

was thundering with big waves.

And surfers.

It was quite The New Year’s,

show!

Although the pelicans were not very impressed and chose to snooze through all the drama.

  6. Yea, to land-dwellers, a problem. To surfers, a holiday. And I love pelicans, well, especially when they’re in flight either above or at wave-top elevation, beautiful. What wonderful gliders, beat only by the albatros.

    1. If only birds could talk! The pelicans that weren’t sleeping were definitely buzzing about the waves and surfers and groups of them were feasting further out on all the yummies upwelling from the turbulence.     1. Avian flu is circulating in local bird populations, but so far cases have been blessedly few, around 354 cases in 44 counties in California since monitoring began several years ago.
