Baby Cardinals Rule~

My heart. (click/tap to enlarge.

It is a cardinal rule,

that cardinals,

who I have only seen,

on four seperate occasions,

in my life,

make excellent friends.

They drop by unannounced,

and make your day.

Cheers to you,

from Maui’s non-native Red Crested Cardinals~

    1. Very pleased you enjoyed Jo. Thank you. Maui was a challenge. We were in West Maui for the fires without power or food for days. Scary time. Good to be safely home დ

  1. Oh, my goodness! And this is the first time I’ve seen Cardinals of this coloration. The ones I see here in the Midwest are all red as males and gray with red features as females. But I agree that any Cardinal can make your day! When I want to photograph a male Cardinal, I whistle back to him when he calls for his mate, and he will come closer and closer to my location for about six, or seven, return whistles until he begins to suspect that it is actually not his mate returning his luring calls! Loans of fun! Amazing photos! Thanks, Cindy!

    1. Fabulous!!! I do this with many birds! It is most fun to do with Great Horned Owls at night. We duet. Once, we were calling back and forth, when I felt a draft of wind on my hair. The owl had swooped at lightening speed silently down and flew so close over my head that my hair ruffled in his wake. He wanted to me to know that although I was blind in the dark, he could see me clearly, and knew what I was up to. It was extremely thrilling დ

  2. Such fantastic pictures, Cindy! Stunning! The male cardinals I see here are completely red while the females are reddish-orange and light brown. Do these cardinals just have red heads or are the males more colourful?

    1. They are utterly delightful creatures. They hop through the sliding glass doors and make themselves quite at home. Only leaving when they choose too. My grandsons loved this! დ

  3. Diane

Cindy, I have never seen this cardinal before, as I live in VA and adore the Northern Cardinals who reside in my gardens. What interesting color/markings! Seeing the adolescents is so much fun as they learn the ropes from their parents. Great photos.

    1. Thank you very much Diane. Funnily enough, they are not even in the cardinal family despite their name. They are tanagers. ‘A rose by any other name…..’ დ

      1. Nature is amazing, mankind not so, methinks.
Off to EENT hospital today, Cindy. Left cataract operation and glaucoma test. Whatever that is? Hehe!

  4. Dramatic birds. Wonderfully photographed Cindy, of course. Oddly however I found myself following your brief text with as much interest, wanting more I confess.

  5. How sweet! We have several cardinal families that visit out feeder – they are the ones with the totally red males. They usually bicker over territory so we seldom see more than 2-3 males at a time.
