My heart. (click/tap to enlarge.

It is a cardinal rule,

that cardinals,

who I have only seen,

on four seperate occasions,

in my life,

make excellent friends.

They drop by unannounced,

and make your day.

Cheers to you,

from Maui’s non-native Red Crested Cardinals~

Enchanting, Cindy! I hope the rest of your time on Maui went well?
Very pleased you enjoyed Jo. Thank you. Maui was a challenge. We were in West Maui for the fires without power or food for days. Scary time. Good to be safely home დ
😗🩷
Your photographs are always such a joy to see.
Your kind comment is a joy to me! Thank you Anne & cheers დ
So beautiful and bright on colors, thanks.
You are so welcome! I am very happy you enjoyed them დ
💕💕💕
დდ
Adorable!!
So happy you like them & cheers Darlene! დ
Magnificient birds! The red one is the male, isn‘t it?
So happy you enjoyed them! Atypically, adults of both genders have red heads. Cheers & thanks for stopping by დ
Wonderful!
Thank you very much Polly დ
Oh, my goodness! And this is the first time I’ve seen Cardinals of this coloration. The ones I see here in the Midwest are all red as males and gray with red features as females. But I agree that any Cardinal can make your day! When I want to photograph a male Cardinal, I whistle back to him when he calls for his mate, and he will come closer and closer to my location for about six, or seven, return whistles until he begins to suspect that it is actually not his mate returning his luring calls! Loans of fun! Amazing photos! Thanks, Cindy!
Fabulous!!! I do this with many birds! It is most fun to do with Great Horned Owls at night. We duet. Once, we were calling back and forth, when I felt a draft of wind on my hair. The owl had swooped at lightening speed silently down and flew so close over my head that my hair ruffled in his wake. He wanted to me to know that although I was blind in the dark, he could see me clearly, and knew what I was up to. It was extremely thrilling დ
Cindy, that’s so funny! Thanks for sharing that, too. It’s the first time I’ve spoken with someone else who does the whistling game to catch photos!
Good to meet a compatriat დ
Such fantastic pictures, Cindy! Stunning! The male cardinals I see here are completely red while the females are reddish-orange and light brown. Do these cardinals just have red heads or are the males more colourful?
Thank you very much Lynette. Adults have red heads. Juveniles brown. They are actually members of the tanager family and are not true cardinals დ
Oh, what wonderful sights to cheer the soul. Lovely memories caught by you on camera.
They are utterly delightful creatures. They hop through the sliding glass doors and make themselves quite at home. Only leaving when they choose too. My grandsons loved this! დ
Me too, I suspect.
დდ
You certainly made the best of this time
Yes, thank you Derrick. We all rallied together. Each doing their part to help out დ
Beautiful.
Grazie mille Vera დ
Oh they are beautiful and seem a cheerful bird.
Super friendly and not at all shy. They hop in through the sliding glass and make themselves at home. I think they know they are loved დ
How wonderful, so no fear of humankind. Robins can be a bit like that too and hop inside.
I love when birds living in certain places know they need not fear humans.
Fabulous photos! What wonderful birds.
Smiling…. Thank you very much Sheree! They hop right into the house and make themselves at home დ
You’re so lucky
დდ
Beautiful Birds!
Grazie mille Darnell დ
These are outrageously gorgeous 🙂
Smiling…. I think they know it too! 😉 😉
Amazing . Love this pic clips. Thanks for sharing CK 🙏🌹
So happy you enjoyed & thanks very much! დ

დდდ
Beautiful captures Cindy, and how lovely to see the parent and juvenile.
Thank you very much Ashley. Adolescent birdies are so demanding and their parents so patient. Warms the heart to see დ
Simply amazing!!!
Aww…. Thank you very much & cheers Luisa დ
You’re more than welcome🌹🌹🌹
დდ
Those cardinals are so beautiful! They look very different to the cardinals in the continental U.S.
Happy you enjoyed them Josh. They are actually tanagers. Bird names are often so non-sensical დ
They do look more like tanagers than cardinals! I guess that’s why we have scientific names.
დდდ
Beautiful photos – we dont have Cardinals in Europe those this is a treat
So happy you enjoyed Emmma. Thank you very much. They are a rare treat for me as well დ
Excellent 👌. Superb, both as photos and also documentation!
Ahhh….. So sincerely appreciated Michael! Thank you very much & cheers to you my friend დ
You’re most welcome. My pleasure.
დდდ
Wow they are so beautiful
They are charming and friendly too დ
Charming visitors indeed! I love seeing parents with their young ones- showing them the ropes.
Amazing how demanding adolescent birds are and how tolerant bird parents are! დ
They seem to be loving birds, how wonderful to have a Cardinal friend!
They come into the house and hop around! Not the least bit scared. Wonderful დ
Great photos Cindy! Nature in her most colourful mood…xx
I love when Mother Nature rocks her palette with birds! დ
Beautiful birds. I think they like you.
Smiling. They know I love them. They hop right into the house through the sliding glass doors and hang around. It’s hilarious დ
I have a pair of Northern Cardinals that come to my feeder and are lovely but your Maui cardinals are stunning! Thanks.
I would so love to see yours! I have only seen them once in my life დ
So sweet!
Smiling დ
Cindy, I have never seen this cardinal before, as I live in VA and adore the Northern Cardinals who reside in my gardens. What interesting color/markings! Seeing the adolescents is so much fun as they learn the ropes from their parents. Great photos.
Thank you very much Diane. Funnily enough, they are not even in the cardinal family despite their name. They are tanagers. ‘A rose by any other name…..’ დ
A wonderful Cardinal can definitely seriously make the day!
Yes indeed! Cheers my friend & thanks for stopping by დ
I’ve never seen cardinals with this coloration before. We’ve seen a lot more cardinals this year than in previous years.
How wonderful! Lucky you. I wish I could see them დ
They also have a pleasing song.
დდ
What great pictures
So appreciated! Thank you დ
Absolutely bootiful!
Smiling… Thank you sincerely & take good care დ
Nature is amazing, mankind not so, methinks.
Off to EENT hospital today, Cindy. Left cataract operation and glaucoma test. Whatever that is? Hehe!

I am very sorry you are going through this my friend. I hope you heal quickly and see only the beautiful sights more clearly დდდ
Bless you, Cindy. ♥
Bless you x2 დდ
♥ You too, Angel.
დდდ
They are so cute! 🙂 I remember I had much joy with those birds during my stay on Oahu in summer 1998.
Stay safe, dear Cindy!
So happy you were able to make friends! They are charming creatures. Take good care my friend დ
This bird is stunning, even though it is not a cardinal! Nature is full of wonders!
A rose by any other name…… Bird names are so idiosyncratic. Happ you like him & thank you დ
Dramatic birds. Wonderfully photographed Cindy, of course. Oddly however I found myself following your brief text with as much interest, wanting more I confess.
Awww….. So thoughtful & so appreciated Neil. Thank you! დ
So cute and bright ..stay safe Cindy 🙂
You too Carol. These are unstable days in so many places დ
Oh wow! And so different from the cardinals in my area!
They are actually tanagers, but are named due to their resemblance to cardinals დ
Ah hah! Still, I know there is more than one kind of cardinal so… No matter what, you have done them your usual justice, Cindy.
დდდ
Once they accept you, they will stop by and say hi.
They hop in through the door and hang around. It’s hilarious! დ
How sweet! We have several cardinal families that visit out feeder – they are the ones with the totally red males. They usually bicker over territory so we seldom see more than 2-3 males at a time.
I would so love to see your cardinals! I have only seen them once დ
Pretty birds. Looks like they have plenty of sass.
Yes! They hop right in through the door and make themselves quite at home დ
Excellent shots, Cindy, they are handsome birds. I’ve not seen this species before, only the red species we have here. From where do they originate?
They are native to Brazil/Argentina and were released from cages in Hawaii in 1929. They are now well established. I have seen them in Argentina too დ
Fantastic shots. They are beautiful.
Merci beaucoup mon Ami დ
De rien. Continuez votre bon travail. 🙂
დდდ
Young or old always a cheer to see and hear! Wow! great pictures Cindy
So happy you enjoyed them Eddie & thanks much my friend დ
You’re very welcome dear friend
დდდ
Hugs Cindy
დდ
Hi Cindy, we have Cardinals here too, but ours are completely red. They have a lovely bird song too.
Leslie
I have seen yours on one occassion and was thrilled to see them! დ
I’ve never seen them in that color. Beautiful.
Happy you enjoyed them Donna & thank you! დ
They are beautiful! I am not sure I have ever seen one in person.
I have only seen them in Hawaii and Argentina. They are native to Brazil and Argentina დ
