The Holler after the rains.

The birdies are happy,

healthy and fat!

For the first time we have goldfinch in large numbers, (tap or click to enlarge to see flying bird detail)

feasting on a bowl of seeds,

along with all the other finches and sparrows. The little black seeds you see scattered all over are thistle seeds. It is the first time I put thistle out and the goldfinch love it!

The tiny gold beauties,

manage to hold their own,

with the much larger,

finches.

It’s no brag,

just fact,

The Holler has the very best neighbors!
Cheers to you from The Happy Holler Heavies~

It must be heaven to see lots of green and lots of fat happy birds after such a long dry spell. The pictures make me happy just seeing all of it.
Smiling…. It is such a relief. We have record snow pack. I can see it from my window as I type. Our resevoirs and lakes are full and everything is green, green, gree. It is pure heaven after all the drought. დ
The bird photos are stunning, Cindy. And they do look fat and happy!
Ahh….So happy you like them Lavinia & cheers my friend დ
And YOU are the very best neighbor in the Holler! 💛💛
The birdies would agree with you, but just because I feed them well! 😉 😉
I bet you get a lot of bird song too Cindy. It must be lovely!
Leslie
Yes, we do, almost constantly, when it stops suddenly, we know a predator is around, usually a falcon or a roadrunner დ
Awesome!
Thank you Jim! დ
The Holler has a wonderful collection of birdies indeed, Cindy, and, fortunately for us, you there to record their each and every antic. Golden and Rosie finches are two of my favorites! Thanks, as always.
You are so welcome Curt. The Gold Finchs are new to The Holler, and I couldn’t be happier. I love finding new birds here and it happens regularly. Take good care my friend დ
Beautiful photography, Cindy, with so much detail.
Merci beaucoup mon Ami Cheryl! დ

Aren’t they the sweetest little things! Your thoughtful words are so appreciated John. Take good care my friend დ
Very sweet! You are welcome, Cindy. ☺️
დდ
a couple of the birds have the same colouring as the evening grosbeaks that I have up here… beautiful pictures Cin… muah…
Oh, I love grosbeaks! I want to see yours!! დ
Brilliant shots, Cindy! I love the bowlful of finches. The clarity, definition, and lighting you captured in their feathers is breathtaking. Hugs on the wing.
Awww…. Your kindness counts Teagan. Thank you very much დ
Delighted. Delighted for all the colors sprouting wings. Maybe (more, should I admit) delighted seeing your Holler (a shade of heaven I think). Love the California lush scrub hills (always) (homesick some). Love seeing where your wandering begins. I can near feel how it is being there, the sounds, the smells, everything, can imagine my feet on that ground. Odd remembrance like I was back in my Bay Area home – what wonder this would all have been before we humans arrived (no offense, just awe). Thanks Cindy.
I know exactly how you feel. I imagine about how places would have been before humans ruined them all the time. One thing that drew me powerfully to The Holler was that it was like a time capsule, bringing me back to the California of my childhood, where I explored all the open spaces where cities now live. The Holler is like California 50 years ago. I was very moved by your words Neil. You understand perfectly. Thank you my friend & be well დ
The birds are attractive, Cindy.
Thank you my friend & cheers! დ
Your neighbors are an absolute delight!
And they never have loud parties at night, except of course for the owls! 😉
The owls around here are relatively sedate at night–unlike the whippoorwills.
What beautiful pictures of happy, healthy birdies! What kind of finch is the red headed one?
Thank you very much Kathy. I think he is a house finch, even though I was puzzled by his orange coloration. Apparently house finches can have orange coloration due to dietary differences. Of course, I could be wrong. Finch identification is difficult as they are so many different varieties. Take good care my friend დ
Beautiful images Cindy and what lovely and sweet neighbours you have! 💖
Thank you very much. I love my neighbors! დ
I don’t have a clue how you get these gorgeous birds to model for you, but these photos are spectacular (as usual!). 😎
Ahhh….. You touched my heart. Thank you very much & be well my friend დ

Pleasure is mine!

If I had that many beautiful birds in my birdbath all at once, I would get nothing done. I would stare out the window at them until they had all flown away.
Smiling…. Basically describes a very good day!! 😉 😉
Look at all those lovely birds enjoying their lovely bird bath! 💕
So happy you like them Alethea & cheers to you! დ

Great pictures Cindy, they have put on a show. And in fact, the flying bird one you said to expand (and a great mid flight shot I might add), reminded me of that cartoon character of Scrooge McDuck diving into his Money Bin, only this was a high dive into a tray full of food 🤣❤️🙏🏽
Hilarious! It does look exactly like that! A missile heading in to plunder 😉 😉
awww great pictures as always 🌿🌾Hopefully they all stay warm and safe.💖
Thanks so much. They are so fat and healthy for winter birds. I am hoping it offers protection from avian influenza დ
