The Klamath River Estuary is where the 257 mile Klamath River empties into the sea in the community of Requa California.

Requa is located,

on Yurok Native Land.

Portions of Redwood National Park lie within these Yurok lands.

Jim provides perspective.

This is Northern California wilderness,

centered around the wild Klamath River.

The Yurok’s are California’s largest Native American tribe with a population of nearly 5000.

Their territory extends about 40 miles up river. Click to enlarge and you can see the small community of Requa on the left bank of the river.

  3. California is so beautiful. The first picture almost looks like Hawaii. I would have never left CA if there wouldn’t have been one tiny earthquake when I lived there. This Austrian girl can do avalanches but the earth-shaking underneath me was more than I could handle.

  9. Them thar tree’s are humungus Cindy, you wouldn’t want to be near one of those coming down. How does that saying go? If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there, does it make a sound. For these one’s…yes…you’d hear it wherever you are in the county 😂 🤣. And I think their ability to grow so large may have something to do with that spiral growth you can see in the bark as you look up the tree. Amazing…as are the photo’s, thank you for sharing 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋

We were talking while hiking about that old question about trees falling with no people there…… as if people need to be there for something to make a sound. How self centered is that! The birdies and wild critters would surely hear it, and flee accordingly. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and the smiles it brought us დ

  10. The ancients are awe-inspiring. Just imagine someone in their presence 500, 800 years ago. Imagining the shared sense of wonder over the centuries, over the cultures. Please Humans let’s not eff this up. Great post Cindy. Best, Babsje

Being in forests of giant redwoods and ancient bristlecone pines is awe inspiring, meditative and calming, as you feel the tangible connection with self, and timeless, ageless, Mother Nature. I so agree with you. Protect our ancient forests and our Mother Earth. Cheers to you & thank you დ

  16. Cindy, your photos are so vibrant, I can smell the tall trees and feel the breeze. I haven’t been to that part of California in a few years. I miss it. Breathtaking and magical landscapes that I pray last forever.

It was wonderful to hear about the Yurok people and the link was so interesting to investigate-I wish them great success in continuing to revitalize their language and protect their lands.

  22. With Jim nearby, it is easier for me to appreciate just how tall those redwoods are! I presume there must be young redwoods growing up in these forests. You have introduced us to some beautiful scenery here!

    1. Yes, there are all ages of redwoods growing in the forests. These aren’t the oldest growth forests which I will post later. This area was particularly beautiful and untraveled though and bursting with wildflowers დ

  35. This area looks stunningly beautiful. I remember Northern California and Oregon as the most beautiful and lush places I have visited. The Klamath River looks like a wonderful place to walk, boat or swim!

  50. Sorry, Cindy, but there is no Yurok County. Requa is in Del Norte County. At one time it was in Klamath County but that county was disestablished in 1874. It sure is a beautiful country, though, as are your pictures!
