So far, Baby Valentine the owlet, only looks at Baby Peter Cotton Tail,
and visa versa!
They don’t know what to make of each other……
yet!
Cheers to you from The Holler’s still safe baby buntings~
Did you know when I was a kid, Burl Ives would sing and play guitar at my children’s library reading group. He just did it to be nice and I remember him well <3
Yes. A bunch of times. He would come to the library. Us really little kids would sit in a circle on the floor around him, and he would sing and play the guitar. He was already very famous, and my mother had all his albums and would sing and play his songs on the guitar. He sang, as you know, about bunnies and birds and just wonderful creatures, like a musical Beatrix Potter. As kids, we just, couldn’t wait to go hear more of the world he would weave for us. He had a big influence on me, and wonderfully you! As did Ms. Potter <3
I feel like you are sitting on the ground next to this sweet bunny to capture such a perfect photo of it. I hope he and Valentine never know any other relationship than kind observation. Just too sweet for words. Stunning, stunning photos!
I know. I try to tell them what should be off limits but they don’t listen! The bunnies are pretty fast thought jumping in their little hole with their nests. I’ve seen more snakes and mice being carried by the hawks than anything else. Anything that has the slightest puff I turn away. You should have seen the bones under the bald eagle nest we went to see. Those eagles were eating some LARGE animals. I was pretty shocked
You live such an amazing life! You focus on stuff that matters. We have more in common than you know. I find it remarkable that we both have learned to express this in much the same way. Life is pretty freaking amazing, you have to admit, just one example, I met you <3
Oh I love that you said that so much.
I love that you can see from my experiences through my photographs that I am finding beauty in times when I could just be laying here focusing on the pain. But I don’t. And you seem to understand that and that means a lot to me. Thank you!
I am grateful to have met you too.
Valentine has a sib! The sib is flying all around The Holler. Valentine is staying around the nesting box. It appears he likes it here. I think he may be either a really gifted owlet, or, not. But no matter. We like him here. He fits in with us. <3
Thank you very much Maureen! This is my old reliable workhorse, the Sony HX400. It is wearing out though, as the bottom of the photos are appearing fuzzy. This is what happens when I exhaust my Sony.
With a little gleeful imagination, could it be that little Baby Peter Cotton tail is growing beetroot in his big ears !!? He is adorable, and I just want to hug him. Lovely photos.
What a beautiful baby bun! Once one about that size managed to fall into the “window well” at my home. (A tiny “daylight” window about 3 feet below ground level with a metal grate covering the concrete “well”.) I had a devil of a time wriggling my fat rear into that cramped space to set him free. The neighbor’s idea of helping me was to bring his toddler out to look at the bunny… right after I managed to throw a cloth over the bun to catch him and let him hop away. (eye roll) I’m glad this bunny is safe. Hugs.
You win a true wild-life rescuer honorary merit badge and permanent membership in The Holler-Critter-Saver Hall of Fame! Plus your story cracked me up. Toddlers are so helpful in such situations. We are just finally getting our new kitten Herbert over the pure joy of being fostered by a family with a two year old. My daughter is expecting twin boys. I can tell the Holler animals are already really excited about this!
I don’t think so, but I do not know. This is a desert cottontail, and the vascular nature of the ears allow the rabbit to cool their blood on hot summer days. They function like air conditioners.
Exactly. We have barn owls, great horned owls, hawks, and lots of ravens, AND lots of bunny-rabbits. So the bunnies seem to know what they are doing. They seem to hang out in close proximity to us, inside our fences, and in our gardens, which probably keeps them safe.
Peter really does have a cotton tail. How cute! Maybe, the owlets & Peter will grow fond of each other and become friends? Well, a gal can always hope.
I swear my brain loves being taken my these nursery school ditties. Yesterday it was, “Little Baby Bunting,” playing over and over. These little rhymes are such an improvement over my usual train of thought, which says a lot doesn’t it! 😉 😉
This is a desert cotton tail. He lives in a very harsh and hot place. The veins in the sails of his ears work like portable air conditioners he carries with him everywhere. The veins cool his blood and allow him to survive.
Actually it has cooled down a bit and strangely enough has been less hot than usual at The Holler for the last few days. I know the climate is wacky all over the world. I only worry about the animals and plants out here because it is so clearly not their fault.
Beyonds “the borders” of The Holler, I do worry about every child though. We don’t seem to be doing a good job with children here in the US lately, do we, except, of course, for Ivanka, who is a very loving mother. To her own children. Only.
Dearest Cindy, so good to see that sweet face… I so appreciate your support and your beautiful images..what a sensational image.. so cute and adorable. love it .. hugs to a dear friend

so incredibly cute!
They are just beautiful aren’t they. I got in serious trouble in middle school for rescuing two baby rabbits from the biology lab.
You have an amazing compassion for our world and our fellow creatures. Well done!!!
Ahhh, sweet friend Rebecca <3 🐇
Awww I love bunnies! Awesome pics! Hugz sweetie
Hugz to you and the fur children <3
Cute baby bunnies.
Here comes Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail!
Somehow I can hear and visualize Burl Ives singing the Peter Cottontail song.
Did you know when I was a kid, Burl Ives would sing and play guitar at my children’s library reading group. He just did it to be nice and I remember him well <3
Wow! That’s great that you and your children got to meet him. That’s an honor!
Wait for a minute I thought your children had met him. You meant that you met him as a child. Had to read that again! LOL! I need new eyeballs! 😎

So sweet. We have baby bunnies scampering around here, too. Love all my little critters 🐇❤️
All creatures great and small! <3 🐰
adorable Cindy…made me smile…they look so soft ~ smiles and joy your way ~ hedy ☺️💫
And love back to you my friend~
Peter’s cousin lives down the road from me! Oh how I love these precious bunnies! Valentine just needs to be told to look the other way!
He does definitely need to be told this, but I am afraid his mother might not agree with us, <3 🦉
I know. I try to tell them what should be off limits but they don’t listen! The bunnies are pretty fast thought jumping in their little hole with their nests. Good to hear that Valentine is still around. Hope he’s doing okay.
Cottontails are so cute! One greeted me once on my walks.
Valentine has a sib! The sib is flying all around The Holler. Valentine is staying around the nesting box. It appears he likes it here. I think he may be either a really gifted owlet, or, not. But no matter. We like him here. He fits in with us. <3
as nice as the previous one
It is so good to be understood. Thank you.
He is adorable – so sweet. And your photos really captured that cute bunniness. 🙂
Oh, I so love newly invented words, which you just did with this new adjective, bunniness <3 🐰
amazing shots – what camera are you using?
Thank you very much Maureen! This is my old reliable workhorse, the Sony HX400. It is wearing out though, as the bottom of the photos are appearing fuzzy. This is what happens when I exhaust my Sony.
fantastic clarity
Incredibly cute ! 🙂
🐰 <3
I think it’s all in the fur – why we find them so endearing. If they had scales we might not feel the same.
Very true.Humans have a harder time warming up to cold blooded reptiles.
So cuteee 😍
🐰 <3
Marvellous. I can feel the fur
Yes, soft as a kitten <3 🐰
With a little gleeful imagination, could it be that little Baby Peter Cotton tail is growing beetroot in his big ears !!? He is adorable, and I just want to hug him. Lovely photos.
Yes, it does look like this!! It is quite an efficient air conditioning system for cooling the blood as these little bunnies are desert cottontails. 🐰
Liebe Cindy, danke für die schönen Aufnahmen, komm gut in die neue Woche.
Vielen dank mein lieber Freund und frohe Woche! <3 🐰
Baby Peter cotton-tail is so cute. 🙂
He would love to visit your garden Ranu, and bring along some friends! 🐰🐰🐰
What a beautiful creature! This is a great time of year, with so many baby animals running around.
I love it, baby birds, baby bunnies, baby cat! 🐱🐰 <3
And baby balloons too! XD
Ha!!!! Good one!
amazing. you could make a children’s story out of this
Thinking like a child is a great way to be happy! <3 🐰

Have a great day, Cindy.

They are cute but ruin all the garden. 🙁 Sorry for the pessimistic comment.
Laughing, don’t be sorry. It’s true!
Love the pictures…so clear and sharp. The veining in their ears is incredible.
They have their own built in air conditioners in their ears. No utility bills for these smart bunnies!
Those bunny images are adorable. Brings a smile to my face that’s for sure.
Your kind comment just brought a smile to mine my friend <3
It’s hard not to smile when we see bunnies. So cute.
They are like kittens. They have this built in awwwww factor. Happy Summer Carrie <3
Well hopefully Valentine and Peter won’t have the relationship an owl would normally have with a rabbit! Beautiful pictures Cindy!

Ah – the innocence of the young and uninformed.
Cracking up…….. 🐰🐰
Thanks for sharing a little fun and heart hugs from the holler!
All us critters at The Holler love blogger friends like you Brad 🐰 <3
Thank you Cindy. The feeling is mutual. Hugs and blessings, <3
<3 <3
Wow love these photos, great detail. So cute!
Thank you! They are such hardy and adaptable little critters 🐰🐰
Peter really does have a cotton tail. How cute! Maybe, the owlets & Peter will grow fond of each other and become friends? Well, a gal can always hope.
And if it doesn’t work out this way, I won’t tell you. We already have too much reality in our lives <3 🐰
<3
Their tails are so cute!
They are very aptly named aren’t they 🐰
I live with a Ms McGregor, so she won’t warm to the photographs as I do. Beauty and the eye, you know.
Yes, I do know. Love gets sorely challenged when it comes to vegetable patch marauders!
🎵Oh! here comes Peter Cottontail,
Hoppin’ down the bunny trail🎵
Such cute bunnies ! 🐰🐇
I swear my brain loves being taken my these nursery school ditties. Yesterday it was, “Little Baby Bunting,” playing over and over. These little rhymes are such an improvement over my usual train of thought, which says a lot doesn’t it! 😉 😉
Haha ! Yes they cheer you up when you listen to them 😀
Adorable baby bunny, Cindy! Beautifully captured!! 💖💓
Merci beaucoup mon ami 🐇
💖 🙂
I can’t help but think of Watership Down.
Ahh yes! An old medieval city in Europe has a large brass rabbit as a town symbol, but I can’t remember which one. It reminded me of Watership Down.
Let’s hope they can overcome their natural instinct, since they grew up together. They are both beautiful.
Or at least stay out of each other’s way, which so far they are doing!
What lovely photos. They are beyond cute!
-Emma
Thank you! Having a subject as cute as Baby Peter is kinda like cheating.
So cute!
Thank you & great to hear from you!
What an adorable bun-bun!! I hope he and Baby Owl can remain “looking buddies”!!!
So far, so good!
The veins in baby rabbit’s ears!
This is a desert cotton tail. He lives in a very harsh and hot place. The veins in the sails of his ears work like portable air conditioners he carries with him everywhere. The veins cool his blood and allow him to survive.
I’m glad to know this. Precious creatures. How well you capture their beauty!

Thank you much more for seeing the beauty in a common bunny <3 🐇
You are welcome, Cindy. 🙂
<3
Aww..baby Peter is adorable and hopefully safe from the owl 🙂 Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead 🙂 <3
I am trying to give Peter some words of wisdom regrading the owlets, but just like the birds, he ignores me! Happy week to you too my friend <3
There’s going to be trouble here. 🙂
Yep. It’s gonna be a showdown at The Holler. Hopefully Peter can run very fast, his relatives do.
wünsche eine gute Woche.
Alles Gute für dich mein Freund!
So beautiful, so innocent. Georgous pictures, Cindy!
Hugs to you sweet friend & hope all is going well <3
So sweet…thank you for sharing Cindy! 🙂
Thank you more for appreciating Peter 🐇
It reminds me of the stories my Mother used to read to me. 🙂
I’m glad that they’re just inspecting each other. We saw our first baby bunny yesterday. Pretty darn cute. Thanks for the smiles, Cindy. 🙂
I am very happy Baby Peter brought a smile to your face as he did to mine <3
What great photos!
How kind of you. Thank you & lovely to meet you!
A guy’s gotta eat, right? Or so I tell myself when they eat my flowers and vegetables!
Laughing…….Put up an owl box and the bunnies will move to more friendly gardens!

They are indeed 🐇
Beautiful innocence. Enjoy my friend. <3
Hugs & Cheers to you my friend 🐇
tolle Bilder, liebe Cindy, möge es dir gut gehen.
Vielen Sie Dank und Prost auf dich mein lieber Freund!
I love bunnies so much! Thank you for sharing, Cindy. <3
The 🐇🐇, and I, <3 you to!
What sweet portraits of this little bunny, Cindy. Such beautiful details and colors. Love his veiny ears in the last shot. 🙂
Ah, so glad you enjoyed Jane & cheers to you! 🐇
Loved this post. Our old farm had wild bunnies.
🐇 🐇 class up a place! Cheers & thanks my friend~
Adorable! The bunny ears are fit for an anatomy textbook.
They are pretty remarkable, they allow the bunny to survive in a harsh desert environment. He has a built in cooling system.
Ah, that bunny sweet face! Thanks for making me smile. 🙂
Your smile, made me smile <3
Hope some of the babies survive. Beautiful as ever photos.
It is wonderful to hear from you and hope all is well with you!
Some bunnies always do survive. Bunnies have remarkable reproduction efficiency.
I know we had two pet rabbits once! Good to catch up with you too at your wonderful nature retreat!
<3 <3
Bunnies are just so sweet, what adorable pictures!
Thanks my friend. They are incredibly photogenic aren’t they!
Oh Wow.. These are just fabulous. 🙂

Adorable! Baby bunnies running like fleas through my backyard. I keep telling them to shoo and get cover–hawk has been hunting . . . I’m a bleeding heart for these furry little guys.
It is amazing how well they evade the hawks and owls isn’t it! They are well equipped for survival <3
Frohsinn und Gesundheit wünsche ich dir.
Gesundheit und Glück für dich, lieber Freund!
Let’s hope they can remain safe with each other for a while yet!
The bunnies seem to hold their own. This morning Mama Roadrunner and her chick were attempting to hunt hummingbirds. Peter Rabbit hops over to watch the action, and Mama jumped down, and pecked him on the tush. Peter held his ground. Mama gave up and went back to hunting something she could actually eat. (I have the photos to prove this!) The free range cattle got through the fence again this morning. And our nearest neighbor was not yet up, so she didn’t see them consuming her entire garden. The Holler is a happening place! 😉
Oh my, it surely is a happening place. Hope the free range cattle aren’t suffering from indigestion though I expect your neighbour will wish they are, to teach them a lesson.
Plus, she is relatively new to The Holler, and she didn’t know about the Ankole Watusi. She saw him and his huge horns, but didn’t know, he was an African bull, bred to defend the herds against lions. The sight of him in her rose garden in early morning might really upset her digestion! 😉
😀 😀
so cute!I would like to stroke !
They feel just like a kitty-kat!
No doubt he is safer there than he would be here… x Lapin is a very popular dish here.
Yes it is, and duck and snails and eels. I prefer the fromage <3 <3
And of course the sanglier… <3 <3
No you’re talking! <3 <3
Ah, tomorrow nights feast is Paella? Shall I save you a seat? <3 <3
Yes please!
Of course it is accompanied by some disco until between 3-5 am so don’t forget your dancing shoes… xx
Those ears…!
Portable AC’s and sound amplifiers in one, thanks to Mother Nature being so nifty! <3

I had them as a child. They used to eat my mother’s family room sofa <3 🐇
amazing<3
Glad you enjoyed him & cheers to you!

Oh how sweet, and rabbits feel so much like cats when you touch them <3
Love those translucent ears!! I’m wondering how close you were to get those perfect photos of that little guy!! thanks Cindy!! xox
Maybe 10 feet away. I use a zoom lens. Thanks for stopping by & have a wonderful week my friend <3
OMG. <3 Cuteness overload, what a sweetie!
I think he heard your comment! <3 😉
Oh, bunny! Stay safe! So cute and cuddly!
Peter hears and appreciates, and so do I <3
Oh no
He seems to be evading the owlet quite adroitly!
