If you read Part I, you know about the greedy little capitalist. Above is one of his victims with a feather askew from a direct hit!

Here is another escaping his wrath.

The good news is, moving one of the greedy guy’s feeders into the bushes worked, and he is now under control.

Birds are feeding and flying freely once again at The Holler.

We now have three feeders up and about twenty birds actively feeding. This is less than prior years, probably because the persistent drought has ended, and The Holler and all the surrounding orchards are abloom with flowers, giving the hummers lots of dining options.

The orioles and Grosbeaks are here at the feeders too, also in smaller numbers for the same reason.
So once again, peace and harmony reigns at The Holler!

Cheers to you from The Holler’s Harmonious Hummers~

One year I came nose to nose with a hummingbird. The power in those wings and the sound when you are up close is just amazing.
It is like this super intensely contained buzzing. They fly right up to your nose and stare at you. It’s awesome!
Yes I know that feeling
Oh my! I loved this post, Cindy! I adore hummingbirds and your photos reinforce that love. I just came inside from watching a few battle on our patio. They’re much more entertaining than TV. Thank you for sharing your amazing photos!
Sorry, Cindy. Part 2 came up first in my WP Reader.
I wanted the posts to line up in order which only would happen if the reader was delayed in opening them, so sorry about the order. Hummingbirds are incredibly entertaining. They follow me around the garden when I am gardening and they follow all of us if we go on walks!
Beautiful captures of the hummers, Cindy!
So happy you like them Susan & cheers to you~
Some fabulous shots in both posts. I love hummers, but rarely get such good shots.
Thank you. They are photographically challenging because they move at hyper-speed as you well know.
You must one very FAST camera shutter to capture these so perfectly – very impressive photography, Cindy!
Awww, humbled & honored. Thank you very much Eliza!
They are so cute. 🙂
They are incredibly and completely cute!
Thanks for the epilogue. Happy ending.
We need happy endings!
Beautiful!!
Very happy you enjoyed these little guys!
heh-heh re ‘Holler’s Harmonious Hummers’ and so pleased your tactic worked 👍
I confess I had to enlist the help of my son the biologist to find a solution that worked. He came up with the bush idea because the capitalist could not see, and hence not control, the feeder buried in the bush. Several days with this placement broke his dominion uber alles!
Geniuses! 😊
Wow, you have twenty of them feeding at one time. That is a lot in my standard. I would love to see that many come to drink 🙂
During the drought years we had well over 40 hummingbirds everyday all summer long. I was changing the quart feeders daily and we went through lots of sugar.
Superb captures Cindy!
Ahh, honored. Thank you!
Awesomeness!
They are awesome critters. I can see why the Incas made huge petroglyphs of them!
Yay the hummers are happy! I’m glad your moving the feeders worked out! Hugz Lisa and Bear
Happy hummers make for happy Hollerdom! 😉
Beautiful hummingbirds. So happy to hear you’ve got the renegade under control.
I really have never in ten years of actively interacting with hummingbirds, ever seen anything remotely like him. My son really solved the problem.
Truly amazing photographs. Thank you.
Ahh, thank you so much more for your kind friendship. <3
Wow.
They are definitely a Wow kinda bird!
Thank goodness he’s under control! I was going to suggest you send him to South America!
Smiling. He will be going back that way by early fall!
Wonderful to know that harmony reigns again Cindy.
xxx Massive Hugs xxx
Yes, harmony makes me calm! <3
Beautiful pics!
Very pleased you enjoyed them!
What great captures
Thanks my friend. It is great to see your photos of my beloved Africa again!
Wow Cindy, you are lucky to have these beautiful birds in the garden. They do not exist here in Europe but every time I am in the States or Central America I look for them trying to capture them with my camera. Your post put me back to Costa Rica where I was lucky to capture them, simply enjoy them and heard the powerful sound their wings make for the first time. Great post! Thanks.
The Costa Rican hummingbirds have such amazing coloration. We will be back there at the end of the year and I so look forward to seeing and hearing them! Some also have those remarkable long tail feathers. Incredible birds and I am glad you spent time with them.
They’re too cute! We don’t have hummingbirds in Greece, sadly…
I think they would love Greece if they managed to fly over there!
Some fabulous photos here! Thanks.
Thank you more for appreciating them!
More beautiful photographs! The second last one against the blue sky is especially wonderful. They’re such special creatures. Welcome home!
Alison
Thank you Alison. They are basically part of the family. <3
Great shots, Cindy. I believe Hummingbirds flap their wings very very fast, and as we don’t have them in Australia, I can only imagine what it took to capture such sharply focused images. Their feather colouring is superb too.
Hummers can hover, and are the only bird that can fly backwards, and their hearts and wings beat so quickly, they have to go into a state of torpor daily or they would starve to death. They are the smallest birds in the world. They also migrate 1000’s of miles. They are amazing! That said, Oz has the most stunning variety of beautiful birds. We are returning in 2018 to see more of Australia’s birds and natural wonders!
I think Australia has a diverse range of everything, Cindy. Probably because of its size. It covers everything from desert to rainforest and everything in between. I did read once that Australia has the highest number of indigenous animals in the world. Don’t know whether that was true or not. You’d think the Amazon would be tops when it comes to indigenous species wouldn’t you 🙂
Outstanding magnificent brilliant pictures, Cindy <3
I am honored and humbled Hanna. Thank you. <3
Beauty !
They are indeed beautiful creatures!
Ingenuity rules. Yay 😀
My son gets all the credit.
We are a sneaky lot. 🙂
The shots are sublime, Sue. Simply gorgeous!
So pleased you enjoyed them! Thank you~
A happy. peaceful ending – A win-win situation! 🙂
Yes! Tranquility is imperative for me. <3
Me too! 🙂

Hugs to you and gratitude too my friend! <3
Beautiful photo captures. It is good to see birds happy and thriving. It’s like a sign that all is good with life. 🙂 How many acres do you have on the ‘Holler’, Cindy? Do you farm any of the land?
So happy you enjoyed them Joyce. Thank you! We have 7.5 acres and a pomegranate and small grapefruit orchard.
Sounds, and looks like a little piece of heaven on earth. 🙂
Wow!! How did you capture in flight so beautifully? 🙂 <3
I think they are hard to capture unblurred in flight. One thing I did to help this year is include a perchless feeder. This means they have to fly while feeding which gives me more flight time and better odds in getting unblurred shots. I judge hummer photos by how well the eyes and feet are in focus.
Thank you for sharing the tip! 💖
<3 <3
SUPER!
Vielen dank mein lieber Freund!
Astounding pictures Cindy. They look like little jewels in flight. ~~dru~~
Thank you and that is a perfect description!
Beautiful hummingbirds, Cindy. Fantastic closeups!
I am so pleased you enjoyed them & cheers to you Lavinia! <3
So much power in such a little creature, Cindy.
Leslie
Yes! They are like these intense little dynamic energy generators. When they are close you hear and feel the intensity of their energy.
🙂
Cindy, love that lesson. When we don’t control the greedy among us, they leave the rest of us without food and other basic necessities of life.
Exactly. Quite a few parallels today.
one of the best thing to watch flying, great job on capturing all that beauty 🙂
Thanks much and agree they are amazing to watch!
you are much welcome 🙂
<3
😀

I don’t even know how you go about capturing humming birds in flight. But if anyone can it is Cindy Knoke back in the Holler and catching up with the inhabitants. Beautiful photos as always.
I am so fortunate to have such amazing friends! You are a light in so many lives Sally! <3
