It is sad when the summer orioles,
fly off to their winter homes.
No more sunny day squabbles,
and birdie bickering.
When the last baby bird has finally fledged,
and flutterbyes have fluttered off,
when grosbeaks are gone,
and only hand-feeding-hummers,
and winter birds stay, it is time for us to fly away too.
We are off to spend time with Canadian grizzlies and send you cheers from your Holler summertime friends~
Lindas imagens!
Muchas gracias amiga mia! 🐦
So beautiful, so well written with that scent of nostalgia, and excellent pictures. Thank You
Thank you more for such a kind and thoughtful comment! 🐦
Breathtaking, beautiful photography!
Awww, you are a lovely friend~ 🐦🐦
Your photographs are marvelous!
So motivating and kind! Thank you & cheers too~ 🐦
Wow, I love this!
Awww, so glad you love the🐦 🐦🐦 too!
From one beautiful spot to another, Cindy. Have a safe trip 🙂
I hope to see lots of wild ones, including grizzlies, orcas, and lots of (literally) running salmon! 🐻
Wonderful photos! Thank you!
The 🐦🐦🐦 and I thank you!
So good!!!
Thank you~ 🐦
I can’t imagine the joy of feeding a hummingbird Cindy. Do they never cone to rest while feeding?
xxx Massive Hugs xxx
Yes, they do if I lay the feeder flat on my palm. They they feel like vibrating butterflies. I should take some photos of this~
You take the best photos. Have a delightful evening!
Your kind comment just made me smile! Thank you~ 🐦
Wondering what camera you use. I have been using a Nikon Cool Pix P500 but I am really unhappy with the quality of the photos I take.
Wow you have so many Orioles!! The fledgling is so cute. Lovely farewell. ❤️
We have flocks of orioles building nests all over, and then one fall day, in mass, they are all gone! It’s amazing~
You are so lucky!!
These shots are absolutely beautiful Cindy 🙂
Awww, your kindness touches my heart! 🐦
Just the truth ^.^/
It’s clean, it is clean, well executed . Congratulations! You have mastered your blogger emeritus of art . I feast .
What a beautiful comment! Thank and cheers too~ 🐦
Beautiful birds and photos Cindy. Sadly we don’t get orioles hereabouts, none that I’ve ever seen anyway. 🙂 <3
They are undeniably gorgeous but their personalities make them beyond loveable and incredibly fun to watch~
Awwww! That’s so cool‼️👍😊❤️
The Oriole and Hummingbird photos brought back memories of Don 🙂 We loved to watch the birds together and when he was bedridden I had feeders outside his window(s) so he could still see the birds. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photographs 🙂
What a lovely thing to do with the feeders and what joy that would have brought Don. It was thoughtful and sensitive for you to do. I know the hummingbirds brought you both comfort. They are magical and so observant and interactive with the humans they live with.

I tried in any way I could to bring the outdoors in to him…we’d both so loved sharing the outdoors together. My son put up a bluebird house for him but I think it was too far away from his windows for him to see. Yes we both loved the hummers, he once had to rescue one from our ceramics shop. Their little hearts race so you’d think they’d explode 🙂 <3
Aw, you’ll miss your beautiful feathered friends, and I shall miss your photos of them. Safe travels!
Ahhh, thank you. I like to leave when they leave because I miss them less!
Love the bird photos, above. Beautiful. Safe travels, Cindy. Give my regards to the Canadian grizzlies. 🙂
I will blow kisses to them from you, but hopefully they will be so busy eating salmon, they will barely notice! 🐻🐻
OK. 🙂 I wish we had seen some up in Alaska, but at least got to see a grizzly in Yellowstone Nat’l Park, one year we were there. They do love their salmon, as I do. 🙂
It always is a huge thrill to see grizzlies in the wild anywhere. We have been up The Knight Inlet before where they congregate to feed during the salmon run, but this time we are staying in our own cabin on the water.
Sounds like great fun. Enjoy the time there.
Thank you. We are now on Canadian and soon heading north. Woo Hoo!
Have as much fun with the grizzlies as I had with this post! WELCOME TO CANADA!
Woo Hoo! We board the ferry to Vancouver Island tomorrow 🐳 🐳! Bring on the bears, and eagles and orcas~
brilliant as always my friend 🙂
I am so happy you like the 🐦🐦🐦! Thank you~
Another set of beautiful photographs Cindy. What a paradise you live in.
Alison
And now I am invading your country yet again in early fall! Love, love, love Canada~
Me too 🙂
A.
Wise woman~
Yep, the seasons are starting to change. Over here, the hummingbirds come to the feeders in larger numbers now. A welcome though temporary sight. Perhaps they’re starting to gather all the fuel needed to go wherever they plan to go when it starts getting cooler. Summers seem to pass so quickly! -sigh-
They are migrating south and you are helping them survive their migration. They will rest and eat to prep for the flight across the Gulf of Mexico. Can you imagine this? I hope you have some that stay year round~
http://www.animatedimages.org/data/media/550/animated-hummingbird-image-0016.gif
It’s definitely amazing how far they fly! Yes, thankfully for us, I believe we do have a few (some really big robust males) who stick around in the winter. 🙂
Soon they will eat out of your hand. What do they make of your parrotlet?
They fly up close to her, checking her out, and the males do their threat display in case she’s here for the nectar too! And fortunately she’s not because she doesn’t know how to give up either!
Wow! I would love to see this. Hummingbirds are so insatiably curious and parrots are so amazingly intelligent. The interaction would be like genius birdie ballet. I have never seen this!
That’s a great idea! I’ve been doing some amateur videography and have some short clips of Nikita on YouTube. However, a parrot-hummingbird interaction would really be something to share! 🙂
What a truly wonderful post. The photographs are stunning and I loved every single one of them, especially the fuzzy baby bird. <3
What is more wonderful is you! Getting to know people like you are why I BLOG.
Wonderful photos. I am feeling sad too that fall migration is here so quickly. I really hope you see some grizzlies! I was in Revelstoke, British Columbia today and there were warning signs all over about grizzlies but I thankfully didn’t see one on my hike. They are pretty impressive!
I was in Revelstoke this time last year. I saw lots of magnificent brown and black bears, but like you, I was slightly ill at ease thinking about encountering them on trail.
Bye bye birdies……..are you trying new places in Canada or are you returning to old haunts?
We are doing a bit of both. We going to travel all around Vancouver Island and fly by float plane up The Knight Inlet where we will watch the grizzlies gorge during the annual salmon run.
Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Canada has everything I need to be happy. Wilderness and so much of it!
\
Beautiful birds Cindy 🙂
Please take good care of yourself and enjoy your trip.
Thank you and be well too!
Thank you Cindy!
Such beautiful creatures – thanks for sharing the photos. I have a bird feeder outside the kitchen window and spend a lot of time watching our visitors 🙂
They add a lot of joy to our existence! 🐦🐦
Grossartige Bilder…
Vielen dank mein lieber Freund Ernst! 🐦
We SO understand how sad you are feeling, losing these beautiful birds. We will soon be completely without any hirundines: summer has gone! Pip and the boys
I hear you! I love our spring/summer residents. They fill the place with color and birdsong~ 🐦🐦
The best thing about all of this is being able to look forward to them all coming back next year – a family reunion! Cheers 🙂
I start looking for the oriels in early April and feel anticipation for the first arrival! 🐦
I can imagine the excitement – we have a similar thing with swifts, swallows and martinis. They are not as exotic as your oriels but still very evocative of a certain time of year.
Resident migrating birds become a anticipated part of your family. 🐦🐦
Beautifully put 🙂
These are pretty birds, Cindy. 🙂
They would like you too Ranu~ 🐦🐦
Stunning photos Cindy.
I’m honored. Thank you & cheers~
Cirque de Soleil on the Hummer High Wire. Beautiful.
That is exactly how I think of them, high flying Wallendas!
Great pictures Cindy !
Honored. Thank you very much~
Lovely shots. Can we borrow the orioles next summer? 🙂
If you get lots of grape jelly they are likely to defect! 🐦
🙂
had a giggle when I read your summer birds were off cuz winer was on its way, and you too were off .. to Canada to see our “balls of fur”…. we are headed to the States for the ocean.. travel safe, will watch for more of your delightful photos.
You are flying into sunshine and we are flying into rain!
Beautiful!!! Fly safe little birds, and you too Cindy, I cannot wait to see those fluffy bears in your pictures. 💛
It’s going to rain……hopefully I can still get some decent shots of 🐻🐻 !
Close-up and personal – they’re simply great birds. Great shots Cindy 🙂
Ah, thank you very much and so pleased you enjoyed the 🐦🐦!
Be careful! They run real fast those bears! They’re smart too, smarter than your average bear! Don’t walk around with a pic-a-nic basket either… Just saying
They are amazingly big and fast and smart!
Love these pictures Cindy – love my birdy family/friends in all their vast shapes, sizes and colors! You always take such amazing pictures that bring me hope that all is not lost. Love to you.
Yes, I get discouraged at times too when I hear of wild animals being killed and habitats being destroyed. The Holler critters do give me hope and I am glad your birds do the same for you! 🐦🐦
Your photos are incredible! Looking forward to the ones from Canada!
So kind of your and most encouraging too! Thank you~
marvellous photograpohy
love this one
kisses
Merci beaucoup mon ami! 🐦
oh je t’en prie

This blog posting is so appropriate as I sit in a Salt Lake City community deciding where my winter home in Arizona will become. Within the week, I will mosey along the traveled roadway to escape the cold, crisp mornings. 🙂

Thank you for your thoughtfulness! What a fun decision! I look forward to seeing where you decide to stay~
I am looking forward to all your grizzly postings. Have a safe trip, enjoy fall in Canada. Thank you for a great post, with some truly amazing pictures.
Thank you for such a lovely comment. We are in Seattle now and catch the ferry to Vancouver Island in a few hours. Woo Hoo!
Be safe my friend and tell the smoked salmon I said “Hi.” 🙂
I will , and they remember.
What a beautifully presented story, Cindy. Have a fabulous time. Mega hugs.
Awww, thank you my friend and hugs to you too!
Cindy, I love your photo of the baby bird, but my favorite is the third picture (the one with the birds on the feeding station wire). So beautiful! Safe travels to you, and I’m looking forward to the scenery you’ll capture up north!
That baby bird lived out of his nest that blew down in our courtyard and the parents continued to feed him. We worried about him but he made it and then allowed us to get quite to him since he was used to us.
Reblogged this on Random Ramblings; Myriad Musings and commented:
Summer is ending…Autumn is near…and the birds say good-bye and head south.
You get to the core, important things. Not many people can do this.
Love the trapeze artists. They must put on quite the show.
It is amazing watching the flying Wallenda hummers!
Cindy, Your posts would be perfect as non-fiction books for children. Most of them have photographs and your photos are gorgeous. Your text is simple enough for children to understand.
I speak fluent kid and would love to do this but have no knowledge of how to go about it. Thank you for the idea though.
Great shots and happy hols to you. If the Canadian grizzlies are a euphemism for relatives you can always cheer yourself up with Mable Syrup (nice girl but destined for sticky end). 😀
I had no idea you knew my relatives? It is such a small world! 🐻🐻
You take such lovely photos, Cindy. I’m really looking forward to seeing your photos from Canada.
Leslie
Thank. I am looking forward to my first bear sighting. We are on the island now and three days and counting until 🐻 time!
Oh you have to take pictures of that.
Leslie
I am hoping too!!!! Thanx~
As soon as the first image comes up, I gasp. Your photos grab and hold. So breathtaking. So exquisite ❤
What a lovely and encouraging comment! Thank you & cheers to you Tina~
Amazing! So beautiful captured of these cuties. I love the picture that birds are on the wire. That is so cool!
They are really comical to watch. They bicker continuously!
Beautiful birds! Your photos are amazing! Have a great time up north! 🙂
Thank you and I am so happy you like the 🐦🐦!
Great bird shots, as usual. Have you ever considered submitting shots to the Cornell All About Birds site?
Thank you for the encouragement. I should try.
beautiful photos……
Very kind and much appreciated!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
<3 <3 🐦🐦
Lovely captures of your holler friends…hope you have a good telephoto lens so you can keep your distance from those Grizzlies!
Thanks, I do and I have no intention of getting too close.
These beautiful bird captures brought me tears…. The third one is beyond words. <3 <3
Aww, you are a lovely person Amy. Any person who tears up at 🐦🐦🐦 is a true friend of mine~ <3
<3
Beautiful photos of my lovely summer friends. It is sad when they leave for warmer climes, though we do get some pretty winter birds here.
Yes, we do too. thank goodness, I can’t imagine living without lots of wild 🐦🐦🐦~
Me neither. What a sad winter that would be.
<3
I love the hand held hummingbird feeder. I could do that for hours.
I could too but your arm gets awfully tired!
True but it would be worth it!
<3
Save travels. One of these days I’ll get to do the same.
Maybe to not so exotic places.
I did go here the other weekend:
http://pennscave.com/history-geology/
🙂
What a fascinating place! I would love to explore here. There are so many amazing places to see in this gorgeous world~
The hummingbirds are slowly drifting into the backyard – enjoying the rest and loading up on flower fuel getting ready for the flight on south.
I am in Vancouver Island BC and just saw a hummingbird! He needs to bulk up too and get ready to fly south. They are such joy bringing creatures!
Beautiful photos as always Cindy! Your work is amazing!~Rita
So kind and so appreciated~ <3
Have a great trip and bring us back some great pix – be careful! 😉
Thanks much Eliza & be well my friend~ 🐦🐦
I am so envious of your beautiful, crystal clear photos of your lovely flying friends.
What a lovely comment. Thank you and have a lovely weekend~ 🐦
Great photos, hope you enjoy your trip.
Pleased you enjoyed & Have a Great Weekend~
Amazing photos and post! Summer will be back and so will all the birdies. Looking forward to your newer ventures and pics Cindy! Thanks for sharing 👍 ☺
Thank you for sharing them with me. You make the experiences richer~
It was too beautiful. 🙂
You are very kind!
Everything and everyone become a gem in your hands – wonderful!
Spoken like a true friend. <3 <3 Thank you & cheers too~
Whatsoever cameras that you have are made for you.
If I was the CEO of the company producing these cameras, I would announce an Award for You.
In many Dollars you see, Cindy!
Shiva
🙂
Oh that is lovely of you to say and I so appreciate it! I wish they would do this!!! <3
Great shots Cindy!
Thank you very much!
Such gorgeous creatures. Imagine, if they are the descendants of dinosaurs, how colorful the dinosaurs must have been. What a world it must have been with giant plants and gem-like creatures of sky, water and earth.
Yes! I always think of birds and flying dinosaurs. It helps me to understand them. When can I expect this poem please……
If you’ll give me permission to use a picture, I can see what comes. 🙂
You can use any photo anytime without permission. I would be honored!
Oh, how fun. Thank you!
<3 <3
Wonderful pictures as always. I can’t wait to see your shots of the grizzlies. 😉
I just posted the first of them. They are so hard to sort and limit because these are creatures that are so freaking amazing. So happy you like them. People need to know more about them so they can like them.
Beautiful pictures!
Honored. Thank you.
Wow, I love their formation on the feeder!
They are the most delightful little beauties~
Happy traveling and enjoy the views, Cindy! You are a true blessing when you share such beautiful and sweet birds with us, this is usually my favorite kind of pictures! 🙂 xo
I am so glad you enjoy them Robin and cheers to you my cheerful and aptly named friend~ <3
I’m traveling back in time and it’s such a privilege. You must just love being out with your feathered visitors and I would miss them too. Hand feeding hummers!! That’s flipping awesome! All the beautiful song and colour in your surroundings seems pretty magical. Thanks for sharing and welcome back to Canada xK
