We are traveling back and forth between Portugal and Spain for the next several weeks.
As the poet, Alvaro de Campos wrote, we will be revisiting Lisbon,
“O gentle, silent, ancestral Tagus,
Tiny truth in which the sky is mirrored!”

Great photos, Cindy and I wish you a lovely holiday. Lisbon is one of my favourite capital cities and I almost didn’t return to the cruise ship after our visit there as I just wanted to stay on. This reawakened wonderful memories.
It is such a gorgeous city to approach from the water, and this of course was how it was originally designed.
The colors are electric and the art always a pleasure to see what local’s paint. wonderful post

Unfortunately we have already encountered the rain in Spain that doesn’t fall mainly on the plain. They call the rain tormentos. Love this!
I spent quite a lot of time in Portugal, in the 1970’s (before tourists discovered it…it was a real bargain..you could rent a villa on the Algarve for peanuts!) and have many memories and enough stories to become a Fado singer in a Lisbon nightclub. It’s a magical place, for sure.
Oh, what wonderful memories you must have! I wish we could fly back in a time capsule and meet up in Algarve and I could watch you sing! Click our heels twice, NOW, and let’s see what happens!

We are going to Porto and Aviero so far by train, but maybe further north. Your country is so incredibly wonderful.

That last one looks like the Golden Gate!
Yes, although the April 25th Bridge looks to me so much longer. I tried to find out the relative lengths and got gobbled up by inconsistent measuring variables, all of which indicated the Golden Gate was longer, even though it doesn’t look that way to me. Here’s what I can tell you, The April 25th Bridge, I would name, ‘The Singing Bridge.’ It has six lanes for vehicles on the top and two for trains on the bottom. When you are in the water underneath it, the singing hum rises in cadence like a mouth harp magnified from heaven. The sound is so beautiful, it was almost overwhelming.
Oh wow….I would love to experience that hum! It sounds amazing. I guess that bridge is sort of like the old bay bridge when they had trains running underneath. Interesting!

I have always wanted to go to Portugal and your photos make me want to go even more! I’m amazed how that last picture looks so much like the Golden Gate – even with the development on one side and the more natural terrain on the other.
Yes, it seem longer to me than the GG but apparently it is not. It has two tracks underneath for trains and makes a loud singing noise continually that is incredibly beautiful.
Did you buy a tile? Lovely photographs and it sounds wonderful.
I didn’t buy a tile because it was really the collection of all together that seemed so special. I would break up the collection!

Great shots, Cindy. Did you buy tile for shipping home? (I would have a hard time resisting!) I loved the white cubed cobblestone streets there and in Lisbon, my favorite museum was the often-overlooked Gulbenkian. Marvelous collection. Enjoy your journey!

It is a somber poem. I think Alvaro was Portugal’s poet laureate at one time, although I mam not certain of this. What an incredible experience to motorcycle through Spain and Portugal. You must have some amazing memories.

Amazing colours! I wonder why they decided to make their roof orange. It must be the natural colour of soil when they bake roof tiles?
I love the terra cotta roof colors too which can be seen in much of Europe, probably came from the color of the clay. The Romans used it extensively. We went to the most gorgeous Moorish castle that was 1000 years old and they have no clay tile roofs which made it stand out!

Laughing, sunny Spain & Portugal which I unwisely named a prior post has turned out to be stormy Spain & Portugal. But it is all good. My son leaves today for Switzerland where the high temps on some days are negative zero celsius. He’s going to need to buy thermal underwear in mid-May!

The exposure you used on that first shot ~ wow. Pretty great intro to Lisbon and Portugal…a destination I hope to see one day. Yes, their history of sea exploration is incredible! In California, most of the cities, are named after or by Spanish or Portuguese explorers. It is nice to go to the places the explorers came from, and get a sense of the still living history.
I think back to my middle-school years, and the Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese explorers blew me away, I could not believe all they had done. One day I will follow you to those places you’ve been 🙂
