Morrison was right, Lisbon is a treasure trove.

  2. Cindy, once again a great post. One day, I hope to get there. Some friends nearby are thinking of moving to Portugal so I already have an invitation. Thanks for the preview! 🙂 xx

    1. Oh, I hope you do go visit your friends Lea. This is the first time we are spending appreciable time in Portugal and we are sincerely charmed. Be well my friend~

      1. Cindy, they haven’t moved yet. It is still in the discussion stage. He wants to move to Spain, she to Portugal. My money is on Barbara. 😉 A votre santé mon amie!

  3. that one piece (mural) is certainly interesting, the male has a robatic face, is there a storyline there? Everything is greening here, enjoy and stay safe

    1. I am sure there is but we can all approach it with our own interpretation. I found the ship being crushed by the human machine especially compelling~

  4. Great photos, Cindy and I wish you a lovely holiday. Lisbon is one of my favourite capital cities and I almost didn’t return to the cruise ship after our visit there as I just wanted to stay on. This reawakened wonderful memories.

  5. What a treat to take a virtual tour with you on Saturday morning. Thank you so much, Cindy! I’d love to visit there someday. 🙂

  6. I spent quite a lot of time in Portugal, in the 1970’s (before tourists discovered it…it was a real bargain..you could rent a villa on the Algarve for peanuts!) and have many memories and enough stories to become a Fado singer in a Lisbon nightclub. It’s a magical place, for sure.

    1. Oh, what wonderful memories you must have! I wish we could fly back in a time capsule and meet up in Algarve and I could watch you sing! Click our heels twice, NOW, and let’s see what happens!
hmmmmmmm………nada. Oh well, we can still travel there in our imaginations!

  7. What a lovely vacation you’re having, Cindy! Thank you for sharing it with those of us who have never been to Portugal…or Spain. Looks like you’re having delightful weather, too. Happy Mother’s Day tomorrow and safe travels always!

  8. Glad my country, gets so many nice words from you! Come to the north region as well and you’ll see a totally different place! 😀 Boa viagem!

    1. Yes, although the April 25th Bridge looks to me so much longer. I tried to find out the relative lengths and got gobbled up by inconsistent measuring variables, all of which indicated the Golden Gate was longer, even though it doesn’t look that way to me. Here’s what I can tell you, The April 25th Bridge, I would name, ‘The Singing Bridge.’ It has six lanes for vehicles on the top and two for trains on the bottom. When you are in the water underneath it, the singing hum rises in cadence like a mouth harp magnified from heaven. The sound is so beautiful, it was almost overwhelming.

      1. Oh wow….I would love to experience that hum! It sounds amazing. I guess that bridge is sort of like the old bay bridge when they had trains running underneath. Interesting!

  9. I have always wanted to go to Portugal and your photos make me want to go even more! I’m amazed how that last picture looks so much like the Golden Gate – even with the development on one side and the more natural terrain on the other.

    1. Yes, it seem longer to me than the GG but apparently it is not. It has two tracks underneath for trains and makes a loud singing noise continually that is incredibly beautiful.

  10. Great shots, Cindy. Did you buy tile for shipping home? (I would have a hard time resisting!) I loved the white cubed cobblestone streets there and in Lisbon, my favorite museum was the often-overlooked Gulbenkian. Marvelous collection. Enjoy your journey!

    1. Oh thank you for the tips! I will check out the Gulbenkian and no, I didn’t buy a tile. I would like to buy an antique angel somewhere in Spain or Portugal.

  11. Oh, I just love stained glass! Been collecting images of beautiful stained glass art, so thanks for sharing that one with us. And, of course, I also love the art on the buildings (never seen anything like that before), tiles, and views. Enjoy your time there Cindy!

  12. Beautiful pictures. I love the house murals. What a somber poem! Where did you come up with that?! During a 1970 odyssey of my youth I motorcycled through Spain and southern Portugal. Fond memories.

    1. It is a somber poem. I think Alvaro was Portugal’s poet laureate at one time, although I mam not certain of this. What an incredible experience to motorcycle through Spain and Portugal. You must have some amazing memories.

  13. Lovely shots, Cindy! When we’re ready for our trip to Spain and Portugal, I’d like to ask you for your recommendations. We’ve just been to Barcelona and loved it. Enjoy your travels. They sound wonderful.

  14. Whenever I read your posts, I think of my favourite travel quote: “I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” And my dear friend, you do move. And I love moving with you…Safe travels.

    1. It is a beautifully designed old city and you would love it, if you can find space for it in your busy traveling agenda. Someday, we may actually be in the same place at the same time!

    1. I love the terra cotta roof colors too which can be seen in much of Europe, probably came from the color of the clay. The Romans used it extensively. We went to the most gorgeous Moorish castle that was 1000 years old and they have no clay tile roofs which made it stand out!

    1. Laughing, sunny Spain & Portugal which I unwisely named a prior post has turned out to be stormy Spain & Portugal. But it is all good. My son leaves today for Switzerland where the high temps on some days are negative zero celsius. He’s going to need to buy thermal underwear in mid-May!

      1. Madrid– it’s monumental!! sort of a copy of Haussmann’s Paris, built about the same time. good food and so many museums! I’m going over to your blog to check for pics!

  17. Of course, I love the street art! I’m not able to blog much these days due to long working hours. 7 more weeks of insanity. Then, re-entry.

      1. Yeah…returning from space in 7 weeks, not days, but woo hoo for 7 days! I’ll have a whole day to myself next weekend, so I’ll see you then! Keep having the best time, Cindy! <3

  18. I enjoyed the Lisbon scenery, the murals on walls and especially the waterfront and bridge, Cindy! I love Morrison, along with your use of his words. These are treasures! Enjoy and will check out your other posts. . .

    1. We head back to Lisbon by train tomorrow. I am looking forward to spending more time there. I agree with you about the waterfront particularly. It may be the prettiest I’ve seen.

  19. The exposure you used on that first shot ~ wow. Pretty great intro to Lisbon and Portugal…a destination I hope to see one day. I think it is the sea-faring history of Portugal that would interest me the most, for as you have quoted above “Trade winds and galleons lost in the sea, I know that treasure is waiting for me.” ~ Cheers…

    1. Yes, their history of sea exploration is incredible! In California, most of the cities, are named after or by Spanish or Portuguese explorers. It is nice to go to the places the explorers came from, and get a sense of the still living history.

      1. I think back to my middle-school years, and the Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese explorers blew me away, I could not believe all they had done. One day I will follow you to those places you’ve been 🙂

  20. The murals are really something. I wonder who the artist is? It’s like an alien came from the future and arrived in a past century and marvelled at how ancient this civilization is still.

  21. You have captured the stunning colours and art at the heart of Lisbon. Our favourite city. We never tire of it. Have followed your journey backwards just before we start another back to the UK. Hoping you will come back soon and try the sleepy but fiesta loving Aracena.

    1. Portugal is so lovely. I still have more to post about it. The cities are so unique and beautiful. I can see why you keep going back. Enjoy your time in the UK! <3
