As fall descends in Yellowstone and the Tetons,
painting the trees golden-yellow,
the elk are rutting,
bugling,
and posturing.
They become so exhausted by all this effort, they bugle while resting!
The calves,
and does,
provide a peaceful contrast!
Cheers to you from the Tetons in the fall~
Stunning pictures, Cindy.
Thank you! It is so beautiful in the fall!
Absolutely gorgeous, as always. 🙂
Awwwww, so kind as always!
Wauw great pictures Cindy !!!
Merci beaucoup mon ami!
Great pics, the yellows so rich!
It is jaw droppingly gorgeous out here now!
What a wonderful trip you are on! Beautiful photos!
Very happy you enjoyed them!
Wonderful photographs. So sweet and lovely.
Aren’t they lovely creatures! <3
Fabulous photos as usual, Cindy! 🙂 <3
Mil grazi Natalie!
Prego! 🙂
Beautiful, Cindy!
It is just amazing in the fall!
Beautiful photos of such majestic animals, wonderful Cindy.
They have the most soulful eyes!
It is amazing how fast the colors change in the northern parts even with fall barely beginning. Great pictures of all. Love the pictures of the Elk. A.G.
I have never seen it like this before and am bowled over by the beauty!
Beautiful ❤️ We don’t get much of a fall where I’m at and its my favorite season- thank you for sharing 🙂
So pleased you enjoyed the fall colors. We don’t get them at The Holler either, so it was a thrill for me as well!
The yellow trees against the blue mountains are splendid, as of course are the elks too, Cindy!
Lovely to see your part of the world.
So happy you enjoyed my friend and cheers to you!
They look like surly teens. 🙂
Which, you have yet to fully appreciate I’m guessing????? 😉 😉
I have one who will be 14 in a month. (!!!) Some surliness has percolated into my daily life. But I crack jokes and shadow box, so it never knocks me out. 🙂
Wow, it’s amazing how the transformation from summer to fall seems to happen all at once! And you are in such a wonderful place for enjoying this! Love the pictures of the elks here. Such magnificent antlers! Enjoy your time out there Cindy! ~Lynn
These are the most impressive fall colors on this trip. I’m not accoustomed to them, so they impress the heck out of me! Cheers to you Lynn~
wow this is so cool! Thanks for the greetings it is so lovely!!!
Thank you more for appreciating it!
Really amazing
<3
Elks are so amazing and big animals. Great photos Cindy 😀
I have lots of mating photos too, but discretion stopped my from posting. Maybe I’ll put them on my Christmas card! 😉 😉
: D
SUPER! Gruß Alois
Vielen dank mein Freund!
Stunning! On the list for next year. 🙂
Yay! Highly recommend September if you can swing it~
That blue and gold is stunning! (Do all the trees turn gold out there? What…no reds, purples, oranges….? This is New England, pulling your leg..) I can see why the elk needs to rest , carrying as he does, those huge antlers. The antlers themselves remind me of a strange, beautiful calligraphy of nature…thanks for sharing your journey with us….
Yes, you New Englanders and your fall displays, pretty much put all others to shame. So incredible in the fall! I did utilize discretion, which is most unusual for me, by not posting all the elk mating photos! 😉 😉
I love the colour of the Autumn. Elks must be growing their winter coat. I love how they are beginning to look furry and fluffy. They are such treasures.
Aren’t they gorgeous, those limpid big brown eyes! Lovely~
What wonderful way to know the world with your eyes, Cindy. Your photographs of today made me remember your views of wild nature in Africa.
How thoughtful of you to remember! I have been thinking of African animals this whole trip, comparing the differences and similarities. The biggest difference in Kruger vs American national parks is the intense volume of wild animals in Kruger. We don’t have these numbers anymore in our national parks. Thank you for remembering Africa!
Of course I remember, you have a very kind and human way to portrait the landscapes you visit. Sometimes when I see random photographs in Internet it’s clear that the photographer is not engaged with what he/she sees but it’s just more an excuse to get a photograph, in your case is clear that you lived the landscape and were sensible to the wild nature. Thank you for your kind spirit, Cindy.
Oh, what a lovely person you are my friend. Thank you for your friendship. <3
Awesome!
So kind!

So thoughtful and appreciated! <3 <3
I could definitely use a vacation out there in the wild with no humans around for some time.
Tell me that the first picture is Rudolf the raindeer…..majestic creatures for sure, actually you make them all seem quite majestic.
Awwww, thanks Charly and I hope you do go!
Very sharp images, I love them all.
So kind! Thank you~
Amazing captures, as always, Cindy… 🙂
Merci beaucoup mon ami! <3
It’s “Thank you, my friend”..isn’t it? 😀
Just incredible! Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you more for appreciating it!
magnificent fall! i <3
Mother nature’s artistry! <3
Those does are so peaceful they made me doze off at the computer. 😀
hehehe! They do relax you. It is true! <3
Wonderful, Indian Summer?
Yes! Very much so! It is simply gorgeous today in the Grand Tetons~
Totally awesome Elk photos! You should make them into postcards or Christmas cards!!! Hugz Lisa and Bear
That is a great idea and I might do so! Cheers to you guys~
Beautiful!
Thank you Rachel!
Absolutely elk-cellent!ヾ(დ☣‿☣)ノ ヾ
Cracking up elk-lessly! ……. 🙂
I hope you were able to stop and see my son’s artwork chosen for JHMR 50’th Anniversary 🙂
I am still here! Tell me where to go!!!!!
Great to catch up with your photos.
So happy you did!
They are just darling!
They really are so winsome!
Excellent. Thanks for sharing these Cindy, those are amazing.
Very happy you enjoyed them!
Lovely photos, Cindy ,thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank you more Ranu, for the appreciation~
Aren’t they gorgeous? I think it’s easy when you live in a city to forget how perfectly stunning nature really is. Thank you for the amazing photos and the reminder, Cindy. 🙂
Yes, being in the midst of nature is beneficial for one’s mental and physical health. It makes you feel part of something wonderful. Cities cannot accomplish this, for me at least. I am very pleased you enjoyed!
Fabulous shots, Cindy. I’d love to hear their bugling. 🙂
They get hoarse because they do it so loudly and continuously!
😃
Magnificent!
Ahhhh, thank you my friend.
Beautiful pictures, Cindy. Brought back memories of my trips to Yellowstone and Tetons when I lived in Utah. Thanks!
Yes, there are lots of Utahans here, and we got to Utah next!
The calves are too cute! We were in Yellowstone in the fall once, but didn’t see elk (or not up close that I can remember). Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos with us, Cindy!
Thank you more for appreciating them Teresa! <3
Beautiful! Always love your photos. Were you able to get any good ones of the moon last night or were you overcast, too?
It was overcast unfortunately!
It was overcast in FL, too. Very upsetting, since I’d been impatiently waiting for days.
We will have to wait quite awhile for the next chance!
Beautiful animals. I have never been to Yellowstone, but it’s on my bucket list.
You may want to do Grand Tetons too, since they are so close together~
Will put it on my bucket list. So far I have only visited Yosemite in the U.S.
You are in for a wonderful trip!
Hi CIndy,
Lovely animals. They are more elegant than a moose. BTW your like button is missing.
Leslie
You are so right about the moose. I have photos of them too! Lauging……Hopefully I restored my like button but thanks for the heads up.
A lot of people were having trouble with it.
Leslie
Superb pictures of wonderful creatures. I’d love to hear their bugling.
It is so wonderful to hear it echoing, especially at night!
Great photos, Cindy! I especially love the ones of the babies and their mamas!
Aren’t they lovely creatures!
Gorgeous country. You got some great shots. Sweet beauty, sweet nature.
Alison <3
Sweet Alison <3 Looking forward to hearing about Egypt and Jordan.
Gorgeous photos and park. I love the golden colors! Thanks Cindy.
Thank you for your kindness my friend~
my pleasure!
Such powerful animals! I love the landscape scene with the golden leaved trees; makes me want to be right there…
I have never seen the Tetons this lovely and it was 75 degrees today, although nippy at night~
Amazing captures of these magnificent creatures, Cindy! Love the fall leaves. 🙂
I don’t get fall color at The Holler, so for me it is a BIG deal!
Did you hear any “boogy woogy” in any of that bugling, Cuz? I love that time of year out there. Yellowstone – for its exciting scenes and adventure, and the Tetons for their peace and serenity. I always liked to get off the “beaten path” in both places. Hugs ! 🙂
Each time I visit a park, I say, “this is my favorite!” Laughing…..Glacier and The Tetons in the fall are very hard to top! I know you feel the same. <3
If I had to pick between them I think I’d choose the Tetons. 🙂
A very special place and where we are now!
Magnificent pictures! Those landscapes are breathtaking. 😀
So gorgeous and so much SPACE out here.
Wow incredible!! You get some amazing animal captures.
Awwww, thank you! I love my wild critters!
You’re welcome! I’d love to see some zebras in the wild. That’s my dream!
There are free roaming zebras in Big Sur California near the Hearst Castle if you don’t want to go to Africa. But seeing them in Africa is the biggest thrill. They are so beautiful!
So beautiful — once again! Looks like another wonderful trip! 🙂
Our national parks are treasures and they need more funding!
I agree — but I doubt this admin will do anything positive. Sorry, it just slipped out… :O
I’m afraid you’re right. Any administration for that matter. I see no good options on the horizon.

Fantastic photographs of elk!
🙂
I am honored and grateful that you like the wonderful elk! Thank you~
Again you capture the amazing beauty of our lands. I can only imagine how it feels to be so close to them. Wonderful!
Our country is bursting with natural beauty and fall really shows it off. So pleased you enjoyed my friend and cheers to you~
Huh, typical men. 🙂
You are very fortunate I spared you the mating photos. I was going to post one in the interest of errrrrrrr…… post completion, but Jim nixed it. 😉
🙂 I’ve never heard it called “post completion” before. 🙂 Tee Hee.
😉 😉
Thank you for the peaceful environment and the first “Dose” of fall.
Thank you for appreciating Mother Nature~
I have some great elk photos taken on a visit to the redwoods in northern CA. Right in fall, too. Lovely, Cindy!
Oooooh, would love to see them!
They were taken in a very early morning mist, with a whole grouping of elk – probably 12-16 – looking like a mirage. Then the bull got moving, and we got some great shots, even with my little Nikkon CoolPix!
Sounds special!
I love the Tetons, Cyndy. I’ve taken that top photo, or very close to it. I was once charged by several elk, which was an interesting experience. Fortunately, I managed to chase them off by behaving weirdly. (I pretended I was a giant ape. 🙂 The elk decided to go elsewhere.) -Curt
BTW, thanks for your comment on the hams. Once again I started typing before I was in the box, which makes the comments disappear. Grrr.
I got in the middle of a couple of charges, where the dominant bull is chasing off a rival. I ducked behind trees. It got my adrenalin going and I loved it. I think only you would understand this! I did see them go after some hikers directly and that was scary. Bull elk like their space. I have a photo of some tourists taking a selfie with a herd of buffalo. They were a foot away…….no wonder there are so many gorings this year.
Beautiful fall color! It looks like the fall comes early there.
Although it was 75 degrees today, it will be in the low 40’s tonite and we have a fire going, so winter is on it’s way!
Gorgeous!
Thank you Bette. It is just that! <3
What a great adventure you’re having in the land of the elk! Great shots.
I even saw a few ospreys! <3
Yay!
WOW! That first photo is epic! Pure heaven. Thanks for sharing the beauty. 🙂
Thank you more for the kind appreciation! <3
#GottaLoveNature!
Great shots, Cindy! :star: :star:
And I haven’t posted Waterton National Park. What a fascinating place!
Wow, Looking forward!
The whole town closes down for winter. Only about 20-30 people remain. Must be surreal in the winter. I would love to visit!
The second picture would be a great puzzle picture! Amazing!
It would, but it would be a difficult one!
Yes indeed! I would love to do it! 🙂
Magnificent shots Cindy
Thank you Pauline. It wouldn’t be the same without you!
Your photos are stunning! The elk are magnificent.
Awwwww, so pleased you like them! <3

I want you too! 🙂
Woot woot😃
🙂
We have roaming elk herds too. I love hearing them so close to our house…except they knock down our fences! 🙂
Wow! Sounds wonderful……except for the fence part!
The elk fences that some people build around here to protect their fruit trees look like Jurassic Park. Ha ha.
Beautiful as usual. We saw the elk yesterday in Sequim, WA. I will share on a post soon. I love to see them. Grateful they do not come into our farm. Fences are not cheap.
See above. Didn’t know they were so rough on fences! I have seen the Roosevelt elk (smaller) on Hurricane Ridge in Washington. Beautiful creatures~
What fantastic photographs. Thanks for sharing them. Hugs, Barbara
Hugs back to you Barbara and thank you my friend~

What a nice place ! Beautiful….
It is quite beautiful! Thanks~
You are the most amazing photographer. How much patience must you have to get those shots. Love the bugling.
Awwww, I am honored. Thank you!
Cindy, these pictures are simply gorgeous.
Blessings ~ Wendy
Very pleased you like them Wendy & cheers to you my friend~
Amazing!
Mil grazi!
Beautiful Elks Cindy! Wolfie would quite like to have Elk for dinner lol 😉
Yes. Wolfie would find much of interest here, including the wolf packs who we have seen twice!!
Amazing Cindy. Simply love your posts
Awwwww. visa versa 2 U X 2!
What a fantastic set, Cindy! Love the shot of the bugling in action. They really put their all into it! Well captured.
I watched their bellies when they bugle. They massively contract their stomach muscles with each bugle. This would be a great exercise regime for me, if only I could bugle!
Elk Pilates! 😉
Exactly!!! 😉
The Fall colors are absolutely stunning. These are fantastic shots of the elk ruling. They are here too and we are no longer taking slow strolls up the road by the farmers field where the herd hand out in the Fall.
Have a good week end.
Thank you so much. Yes those bulls can be a tad ‘techy can’t they!!!! I always tried to photograph them with a large tree or something to run behind, and I had to do this more than once. Such iconic creatures. You are lucky to live among them. Be well~
Ty and you also
One of my favorite places. Great wildlife captures!
Thanks much and yes, one of my favorites too!
As always my friend, you have outdone yourself with these. I love Yellowstone. Thanks for reminding me why. XO Sheri
Wonderful to hear from you! I’ve been thinking about you! I know there has been a lot going on with you, some great events like, your marriage, and some not so great, like your surgery. Hope all is well with you my friend, and yes, Yellowstone is one of those magical places, with all the wonderful American wildlife. Thanks for touching base and be well my friend. Much love~ <3
les photos sont superbes !
Merci beaucoup!
Wow 🙂
Love that word!!! 🙂
<3 <3 that's how I feel when I see your photos!
Awwwww, so lovely of you to say! <3
These are absolutely amazing Cindy!
Aren’t they beautful wild things!
They are!!
<3
Cindy, these images are so beautiful. Yellowstone must be awesome this time of the year. Only saw it in summer. Hugs! Veraiconica
Yellowstone gets crowded because it is such an American icon, but it is so huge. There are so many inacessible parts. Vast tracks of it are still fully wild. You have to go to Yellowstone Lake to even to begin to see this wonder.
Sehr schöne Aufnahmen und eine wunderschöne Landschaft
Lg Aufgewacht
Danke mein Freund und glucklich Sonntag!

You are a wonderful blogging friend Kev! Thank you & cheers too~
Always a pleasure, Cindy!
🙂
absolutely gorgeous pictures!
So generous and so motivating! Thank you sincerely~
Some of the landscape photography are so stunning, they look like paintings! Wow!
Some places present an unfair advantage for a photographer. This is one! Thank you very much & cheers~
Cindy, you have hit me where it counts here ~ there are very few animals to me as regal as an elk, and you’ve captured all of their spirit with these shots…and then to do so in a place so beautiful (the opening landscape shots are surreal). Simply beautiful, as you always do ~
You know I hold your work in similar esteem, so your comments are very much appreciated. I had so much fun with the elk, essentially running away FAST when I got between two males. It was an adrenalin experience and I loved it. They really are magnificent creatures.
Cindy, I know you’ve heard this 1001 times but your photos are amazing! 🙂
Oh, you are so kind and so appreciated! Thank you & be well my friend~
Wow, ‘pretty as a picture’ takes meaning here today. It all seems rather unspoiled and that’s very appealing to me. I’m always worried when I see Elk or bears on the hi-way and wish they’d stay up high on the mountains. Then, If you weren’t willing to hike, you aren’t going to see them. All that bugling must be loud. I hope they have a good winter, with lots to eat. xk
Aren’t the elk gorgeous! I have never been so close to them before and I never realized how LARGE the males are. Pheww!! They are big they are fast and they are CRANKY during rut. I had sooooo much fun dodging behind trees when they decided to run pell mell right through my sheltered spot when they spotted a rival male, I didn’t see behind me. Talk about 101 tons of fun!
Someone should offer you a TV series!
About what? My life is way too boring, except for infrequent moments when it isn’t, like with this elk. You on the other hand, would have a super popular show on the DIY/Arts/Crafting, make beauty around you channel. Seriously, it would be VERY popular!
Cindy, your photos are just beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing them!
Beautiful and fascinating!
So happy you think so and happy Friday!
Stunning pictures Cindy.

Thank you David. Yor are very thoughtful and most appreciated!

As Autumn comes in town those in the industrial sites and cities can only dream of the changing beauty of the countryside. For sure they miss a lot.
I missed this comment! I am so sorry Marcus. So happy you love nature too my friend and blessings to you~
nice 🙂

🙂
Look at those mountains, and the trees. This is the natural beauty that Ansel Adams fell absolutely in love with.
Yes indeed. Ansel was a genius. I wonder what he would make of the all the ecosystem destruction since he was taking photos.
We have wild elk on Sequim.
I have seen the Rosevelt Elk in Washington up on Hurricane Ridge. Beautiful and a bit smaller than these big Wyomming ones. Do the elk like your donkeys? Or just their food! 😉
I never have Elkhart on our farm thank God. My fences can’t take it. Just down the road in Sequim
Just as well. I can imagine they would wreck havoc with your garden and then during mating season, with you!

Some of these photos seem like paintings! Gorgeous animals and glorious photos, Cindy 🙂
Awww, your kindness touches my <3 Christy. Thank you!
Wow – beautiful clicks. You must be very patients to capture the different moods of elk. They can be so shy it’s not easy to get closer. Happy travelling.
Thanks so much. I get into ‘the zone’ around wild creatures. Time tends to disappear დ
