It’s good,

to be mocked,

by a mockingbird.

They are valiant creatures who keep poisonous snakes from the garden.

Here are just a few examples of their mimicry. They even imitate weed whackers at The Holler!
Cheers to you from The Holler Mockers~

Really nice pictures, Cindy. Those eyes are looking at me right out of the monitor screen.
They are piercing aren’t they. Thanks much & cheers 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Very beautiful photos, Cindy! The bird’s eyes are very beautiful. 😍
Aren’t they beautiful. They saved me from a snake when I was a little kid, so it is eternal love. 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Ooh, very strong critters then kind lady. I won’t even argue with a snake. Great pictures and an ode to a fighter 🤗❤️🙏
Smiling. They are tough little birdies! 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Very intense looking mockingbird.
This is how they stare down rattlesnakes!! 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
It is good to be mocked by a mockingbird, Cindy. Very clever!!! Sending hugs!
Smiling. Merci beaucoup mon Ami Rebecca 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
These are the most wonderful pics I’ve ever seen of a Mockingbird. I wish one would mock me.
I’ve never seen or heard one in real life!
Thank you, Cindy! 🌹
Oh, I should have included some of the mocking. I will add it, thanks to you dear Resa. Thank you! 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Happy July Fourth! 🇺🇸🌟

💞
A beautiful winged helper. Beautiful photos, Cindy.
Much appreciated Suzette. Thank you & cheers 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Cindy, your Mocking Bird is very astute, intelligent, and tricky from what I know of it, which can be seen in it’s eyes of your excellent images. This bird like many of our Aussie ones can mimic, as you know, other birds to take advantage of them. I love that yellow eye, it so reminds me of our Pied Currawong which in my book I call an opportunist, which I would include the Mocking Bird 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
I spent many a picnic with your wonderful currawongs and made very firm friends! They are wonderful. The mockers go through their amazing mimicry repertoire daily at The Holler and I mimic back, which seems to offend them!!! Cheers to you Ashley 😉
I’ve never seen a mockingbird! Thanks for the pictures which are great! They don’t look like I pictured them in my mind.❤️
I am so pleased you enjoyed him & pleased to make the introduction 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
😀thank you. I hope to meet one in person someday!
I hope you do!
Great photo! That eye…
Thanks much! He doesn’t miss a thing 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
I love being mocked by a mockingbird, but I like their cousins, the grey catbird, even more – it seems every time I go out there is one following me, talking to me. Great photos!
Thank you Trent. We don’t have catbirds here. I have never seen or heard one and I would so love to! 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Gorgeous mockingbirds, Cindy! Oddly I haven’t seen any here in Eastern Washington. In Sacramento I swear we had some lockers that tried to bark! Great clip too.
I believe it. I bet they would make a credible bark. They have incredible repertoires. I wonder why you haven’t seen any 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
They rarely show up here. Some in Western WA, though. We have a lot of cool goldfinches and bluebirds though, among others.
I would love to see your goldfinch and bluebirds, we have them but much less often.
I had never seen many finches in Sacramento. Our 3/4 acre property now seems inviting to so many birds now. Its exciting! Here is a link to a recent post with a few of our feathered friends:

Sounds life happiness to me. Good for you.

It’s the truth Cindy I wish I could take photos like yours
Incredibly kind of you Sheree & sincerely appreciated.
😎
I come to your posts for the fabulous photos of the natural world. But today’s video of those mimicking mocking birds was the icing on the cake!
We owe the audio to Resa at ‘Art Gowns’. She said she had never heard the mimicry which gave me the idea for the audio. Very pleased you enjoyed & thank you Margaret 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Fine photos to accompany an informative video
Hello Derrick. Happy you enjoyed my friend and cheers to you and Jacquie 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰

💚💚
I love the shots when the little birds are looking at the camera (or seem to be)
Yes. I like this too. Thank you. Birds seem fascinated by tele-photo lens attached to human faces 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Fantastic series, Cindy!
So pleased you enjoyed & thank you Indira 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Wonderful!
Much appreciated. Thank you & cheers 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Love these pictures!
So happy you do & thank you! 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
For a bird lacking vivid color, this gorgeous greige mockingbird is stunning! Your beautiful photos capture his elegance. Cheers, Susan
Thanks very much Susan. He has a subtle beauty doesn’t he, and supreme self confidence 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
The “talented” bird! My concern is how this small bird can keep poison snakes off the garden. Does it make some sort of dangerous sound?
It will relentlessly attack the head of the snake from above. When I was a kid I watched one repeatedly dive on a rattler. It flew up high and dropped like a rock attacking it’s head. It kept at it too, even after the snake was trying to leave 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Wow… Brave bird.
Indeed.
Happy Independent Day, Cindy!
Thank you Alexander. Happy 4th my friend 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Great name!
Smiling. Cheers to you Pam 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Very cool Cindy! I had no idea mockingbirds are great mimicry artists. 🐸🎶
Happy you enjoyed them Brad. They are very cool 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
😊
I have a bird feeder stuck to my kitchen window Cindy, so I’m especially interested in identifying the different breeds. I haven’t had a Mockingbird yet but will keep my eye open for them.
Leslie
I love those feeders and I hope one visits Leslie, although they are more fond of fruit and grape jelly! They cannot resist grape jelly. So if you put some on tree branches you should get lots of action 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Any bird who keeps poisonous snakes away is definitely good! Lovely photos, Cindy.
That was my thought, too, Jennie! The gnatcatcher also sounds like a good bird to attract to one’s yard.
Exactly!
Exactly my thinking. They are relentless defenders. Thank you Jennie & Happy 4th! 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
Indeed! You’re welcome, Cindy. Happy 4th to you!
Gorgeous. Happy 4th!
Thanks much & Happy 4th Dana 𓅼𓅓𓅮𓅣𓅰
