Lobos del Marino~

A face only a mother could love?

Nah, I think he’s a looker!

Apparently the lobos girls agree!

Patagonian Sea Lions are larger than their northern counterparts, and genetically distinct.

The males can grow up to 8 feet in length and weigh up to 800 pounds.

They have the archetypical lionesque heads with manes of fur, which make them quite impressive.

They are a protected species as there are only an estimated 265,000 of them left in the wild.

Comments are restored and will hopefully work, and I so very much miss hearing from you!!
Cheers to you from El Fin del Mundo, Ushuaia Argentina, the southern most city in the world~

    1. And Ushuaia is a very COOL place. Unseasonably so, now in summer! Still it is the my third time here, and I go on purpose, and this time I brought my adult kids along. Ode to Joy! Sending love to you from the southern seas~~

    1. She would meet the most handsome German Shepards here, guarding Usuhaia. Incredible guard and service dogs. So incredibly beautiful and well trained. If Lucy were here, she might turn their heads off duty…….
      Love to you and Lucy!

  1. It’s good to “hear your voice”again, Cyndy! Your photos are always great, but we have missed you: to read your comments adds another dimension! Have a wonderful trip. So glad your grown kids are with you – these will be life-changing days for them! You seem to be near “the end of the world;” where can you go from there??

    1. It is so wonderful to hear from you!
And yes, it is pretty amazing to have my children here too. It is the end of the the southern world. And it is a risk to take them here because maybe they wouldn’t experience it like I do . We are having gale force 7’s and such. And lots of the God smacking scenery is obscured.
But still when the skies clear, it brings you to your soul.
The further south you go, the more incredible it becomes.
Antarctica seems to be God’s specific unruined home.
I haven’t taken them there yet.
Let’s see how they like this.
I think they like it, a lot.
It’s getting close to God’s unspoiled human world.

  2. Seasons Greetings Cindy, Namaste 🙂

Intrigued by the title I had to call by:
A ‘wolf in water’ caught my eye.
But as I now sit and keenly spy,
Lobos is more Lion than a wet-wolf on the sly!
    ~
The photographs are excellent – I learn so much by enjoying them as I do. Thank you 🙂

    Best Wishes for 2018! 😀

    Love and Peace. Namaste 🙂

    1. Wonderful to hear from you!
So much love to you. The farther south I go the closer I feel you!
Happiness and blessings to you in the New Year, and I hope we share the year together~

      1. 😀 Thank you: your welcome as a host is always so warm sometimes it is hard to leave: winter is upon us in the UK and judging by the sound of the wind whipping up a torrent outside, winter cometh with vengeance knowing only blind fury! lol

I’m certain we’ll share the year together: here on Word Press none of us are ever more than a mouse-click away from a friend 🙂

How far south have you now travelled? Shall I put the kettle on? 😉 lol

Have a wonderful evening. Namaste 🙂

          1. I knew we had a connection if only by way of sharing similar weather 🙂 Mind you, I’m grateful to be on terrafirma in a storm.

Curiously my Wednesday 27/12/17 feels as if I too am afloat and rounding Cape Horn.

Hoping we’ll both have sunshine and calm seas imminently 😉

            Namaste 😉

            DN

              1. Hey Cindy, Namaste 🙂

Indeed it must be so for thee and I have connected across time and space sharing common denominators of weather and wily Lobos disguised as lions or is it wily lions disguised as wolfish Lobos. Crazy lol 🙂 Mercurial to the very last lol 🙂

Hoping the storm has abated and your view of Cape Horn much improved. Take care of one and all 🙂

                Namaste 🙂

                DN

    1. It’s not busy, it is just super limited access to internet. It is frustrating. Thanks so much for reaching out, and I hope you have the best possible 2018, and that we can share the year together.

  3. They have a kind of cute muzzle or pug like look. 🙂 Bet it’s a whole lot warmer down there in Argentina, huh than up here in Colorado which has been in the single digit temperatures for the last few days. We even had a white Christmas, but a warm family gathering. 🙂 Hope your Christmas was warm, bright and sunny. Happy New Year, Cindy.

  4. Hi! Thanks for stopping by “Write Light.” I love the photos of the sea lions. So different than those I’ve seen before. The feet blew me away. At first I wondered if it was a bird near the back of the sea lion, and realized those were amazing appendages for swimming. Imagine having feet like that. We’d be in trouble in the shoe store and on land! Your pictures made me want to go swimming. God bless!

  5. When I sea their handsome faces and I know you must be lion. They are seal-liously too cute! LOL! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, my friend. ☆*✲゚*。(((´୧(๑❛ั⌔❛ั๑)୨+)))。*゚✲*☆

  6. Lobos del Marino…in Spanish, another thing one learns.
You said a “face only a mother could love”, lets be real not even the mother would love
that face, she might pretend like my mother but no way.
But they are actually cute in their on way. And as always fascinating to see these pictures of animals very close.

      1. That’s true, they are both as ugly as ugly one can has, you made me smile here.
And I won’t say happy new year since it is 28th still, but today my mother has decided to bring me the bulldog to my “house”, hopefully she’lll remind to take some pictures, and by the way…. I need to clean this room, for the life of my mother!

          1. No I’m not, the poor woman a.k.a mother, I put her through hell by my actions, including joining the army, and later on when I left that life I screwed it up even more.
But thank you for the comment.

  7. So lovely to be able once again to congratulate you on all your wonderful pictures and adventures Cindy. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas – wishing you every happiness in 2018 and looking forward to our continued exchanges 🙂 xxx

  8. Just fabulous Cindy, what an amazing journey you are taking us on. Thanks for taking the time to show us these magical moments. I missed being able to talk to you. Hope you had a beautiful Christmas. Love and hugs from me and Jack xxx

  9. Dunno if it is intentional, but comments are closed on the 2017-12-11 post.

I had wanted to comment there that «flying rainbows» is great as a vivid short description of the splendidly photographed scarlet macaws in Costa Rica.

While the Patagonian sea lions are impressive (and also splendidly photographed), the scarlet macaws are in a class by themselves.

    1. Yes they are indeed! Seeing them flying wild, instead of in a cage, was a thrill of a lifetime. I echo your thoughts completely, they are splendid, intelligent and curious creatures!

  10. I love their faces. When I saw the first photo I couldn’t tell exactly what type of animal it was. I remember seeing sea lions profiled on a sea rescue type program and I was shocked to find out how massive they are. They are beautiful creatures.

      1. What an experience it must have been to grow up around sea lions.

As I read your comment I was thinking I need to get to the zoo. While I’d love the opportunity to see many of these types of animals in the wild it’s highly unlikely I’ll be able to do so any time soon. But should the opportunity present itself I am thankful for the technology of cell phone cameras to see and capture these beauties.

              1. I’m sure the number of people’s lives I reach are enough for my time I have, but I do admire how each person you “meet” becomes close as a friend.
I also look forward to another year of our virtual friendship, Cindy. Now, toot some horns or beat a pan tomorrow night! 📣🎉

  11. So totally adorable 🙂 I once went for an early morning swim with some seals and sea lions in a sanctuary (not Patagonian ones, of course), and fed them some fish for breakfast. Sea lions have really tickly whiskers if they brush up against your bare legs 🙂
Wishing you a wonderful New Year, Cindy, filled with peace and joy.

  12. They sure are sweet looking…..until you see those teeth, LOL. As a kid of 14, I holiday’ed with a family down the west coast of Oregon. We stopped at a lighthouse in Seaside, Oregon where you rode an elevator down into a cave where sea lions swam into to rest on rocks. You also got an envelop of fish to throw out at them. I remember it being super loud with their honks for food. “Over here, over hear, over hear” it sounded like to me. I don’t know if it still operates but that’s as close as I ever got to sea lions in nature………hardly a natural habitat, LOL. xo K

    1. What a fun experience that clearly stuck in your memory. When I was a kid there was a big storm and this big male seal lion used the high tides and waves to strand himself on top of a giant rock. He sat up there like king of all he perceived! He eventually got off, but I have no idea how!

  13. Well, comments surely work, but my notifications for this post didn’t! Nonetheless, I’m in love with these creatures. Hopefully man won’t destroy them.

    1. Eeeks. I hope it had to do with me being ‘at sea’ both literally and figuratively. Now that I am back on land after a month on the ocean, I wonder if all things will become normal! Laughing & hugs to you dear one <3

  14. Just brilliant holiday photos, so fabulous that your adult children joined you, my parents aren’t going to shake us off 😄. Especially with such fantastic adventures you have. Happy New Year x 🙋🏼💕

    1. We were together for almost a month. They just departed. It was so awesome to go off on our own devices in some city like Montevideo, and run into one or another of our kids by chance. Serendipitous and very fun. I hope you your parents do this sometime soon and Happy New Year sweet one <e

    1. I know him well and I adore his incredible music, poetry, heart and well…..everything. He is an amazing talent and I often am spellbound listening to him late at night. Quite lovely you sent this to me. We must be in mental/emotional synch my friend. <3 to you~
