A face only a mother could love?

Nah, I think he’s a looker!

Apparently the lobos girls agree!

Patagonian Sea Lions are larger than their northern counterparts, and genetically distinct.

The males can grow up to 8 feet in length and weigh up to 800 pounds.

They have the archetypical lionesque heads with manes of fur, which make them quite impressive.

They are a protected species as there are only an estimated 265,000 of them left in the wild.

    1. And Ushuaia is a very COOL place. Unseasonably so, now in summer! Still it is the my third time here,and I go on purpose, and this time I brought my adult kids along. Ode to Joy! Sending love to you from the southern seas~~

    1. She would meet the most handsome German Shepards here, guarding Usuhaia. Incredible guard and service dogs. So incredibly beautiful and well trained. If Lucy were here, she might turn their heads off duty…….

  14. It’s good to “hear your voice”again, Cyndy! Your photos are always great, but we have missed you: to read your comments adds another dimension! Have a wonderful trip. So glad your grown kids are with you – these will be life-changing days for them! You seem to be near “the end of the world;” where can you go from there??

    1. It is so wonderful to hear from you!
      And yes, it is pretty amazing to have my children here too. It is the end of the the southern world. And it is a risk to take them here because maybe they wouldn’t experience it like I do . We are having gale force 7’s and such. And lots of the God smacking scenery is obscured.
      But still when the skies clear, it brings you to your soul.
      The further south you go, the more incredible it becomes.
      Antarctica seems to be God’s specific unruined home.
      I haven’t taken them there yet.
      Let’s see how they like this.
      I think they like it, a lot.
      It’s getting close to God’s unspoiled human world.

    Intrigued by the title I had to call by:
    A ‘wolf in water’ caught my eye.
    But as I now sit and keenly spy,
    Lobos is more Lion than a wet-wolf on the sly!

      1. 😀 Thank you: your welcome as a host is always so warm sometimes it is hard to leave: winter is upon us in the UK and judging by the sound of the wind whipping up a torrent outside, winter cometh with vengeance knowing only blind fury! lol

        I’m certain we’ll share the year together: here on Word Press none of us are ever more than a mouse-click away from a friend 🙂

        How far south have you now travelled? Shall I put the kettle on? 😉 lol

            Curiously my Wednesday 27/12/17 feels as if I too am afloat and rounding Cape Horn.

            Hoping we’ll both have sunshine and calm seas imminently 😉

                Indeed it must be so for thee and I have connected across time and space sharing common denominators of weather and wily Lobos disguised as lions or is it wily lions disguised as wolfish Lobos. Crazy lol 🙂 Mercurial to the very last lol 🙂

They have a kind of cute muzzle or pug like look. 🙂 Bet it’s a whole lot warmer down there in Argentina, huh than up here in Colorado which has been in the single digit temperatures for the last few days. We even had a white Christmas, but a warm family gathering. 🙂 Hope your Christmas was warm, bright and sunny. Happy New Year, Cindy.

  25. Hi! Thanks for stopping by “Write Light.” I love the photos of the sea lions. So different than those I’ve seen before. The feet blew me away. At first I wondered if it was a bird near the back of the sea lion, and realized those were amazing appendages for swimming. Imagine having feet like that. We’d be in trouble in the shoe store and on land! Your pictures made me want to go swimming. God bless!

  38. Lobos del Marino…in Spanish, another thing one learns.
    You said a “face only a mother could love”, lets be real not even the mother would love
    that face, she might pretend like my mother but no way.
    But they are actually cute in their on way. And as always fascinating to see these pictures of animals very close.

      1. That’s true, they are both as ugly as ugly one can has, you made me smile here.
        And I won’t say happy new year since it is 28th still, but today my mother has decided to bring me the bulldog to my “house”, hopefully she’lll remind to take some pictures, and by the way…. I need to clean this room, for the life of my mother!

          1. No I’m not, the poor woman a.k.a mother, I put her through hell by my actions, including joining the army, and later on when I left that life I screwed it up even more.

    I had wanted to comment there that «flying rainbows» is great as a vivid short description of the splendidly photographed scarlet macaws in Costa Rica.

    While the Patagonian sea lions are impressive (and also splendidly photographed), the scarlet macaws are in a class by themselves.

    1. Yes they are indeed! Seeing them flying wild, instead of in a cage, was a thrill of a lifetime. I echo your thoughts completely, they are splendid, intelligent and curious creatures!
