are two typical Alsatian towns.
The architecture,
is fairytale,
meets living history,
with the added benefit of French dessert!
There are little towns like these scattered all over Alsace,
exploring, (note Jupiter near clock tower)
and eating,
here is a delightful way to spend your days!
Cheers to you from beautiful Alsace~
It is fairytale and so colorful! Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photographs, Cindy.
Thanks you more for appreciating them!
Winstub – How two languages and cultures blend together 🙂
Yes! Lovely!
Certainly is fairy tale wonderland. That bear blowing bubbles is so cute. Beautiful capture of Jupiter, Cindy. <3
Very pleased you enjoyed and Happy Friday Olga!
Happy Friday to you also, Cindy. 🙂
Ernst
Du bist so glücklich! Du lebst in einem so schönen Teil der Welt. Es dauert etwa 18 Stunden, um hier zu kommen, aber ich besuche immer noch regelmäßig! Glückliches Wochenende Ernst ~
Your colors and composition are wonderful!
Awww, honored! Thank you~
Such a lovely place!
It is indeed & cheers to you!
Fantastic images… as always 😊 must take a stop there next time I am down there..
Yes, I hope you do and post about it too!
I love these quaint little houses.
Aren’t they wonderful. Some of them are converted into hotels or short stay apartmens. We stayed in an apartment on the ramparts that was built in 1250!
Gorgeous, capturing the beauty of the place !
Ahhh, so happy you enjoyed & have a wonderful weekend!
Truly a fairy tale place. I’m really thinking about staying or traveling extensively in this region. Would you mind if I contact you for advice? Thank you so much Cindy! ~Sunny
I would love it! The only thing I enjoy more than planning travel, is traveling!
Thanks Cindy! I will email you 🙂
Hi Cindy, sorry, Somehow I could not find your email address or a contact page so that I could send you my email 🙁 Could you let me know? Thanks!
You took some great pictures. It almost looks surreal -such a beautiful place, yet there are no people.
Actually it was very crowded in Rhiquewhir during daylight hours which is why the photos there were taken at dusk. Ribeauville was less touristed.
The buildings are so unique! I especially love seeing history preserved in this day and age 😃
I do too! We stayed in the city ramparts that were built in 1250!
I bet that created lots of stories to share too 😃
Maybe I will post photos of the apartment and ramparts…….
I look forward to seeing t hem : )
Great!
The towns look so picturesque and the desserts look yummy.
Leslie
I wish I could beam us over right now for some French dessert!
I still remember this little treat I had many years ago. It was a little pettifour in the shape of a bunny.
Leslie
Yummy bunny!
It was indeed! 😉
Such a picturesque setting ~ you’ve captured the feel of these narrow streets while also holding a sense of a community, so different from cities around the world these days. Wonderful photos Cindy, wish you a great weekend!
So great to be in touch with you Randall. Happy Friday my friend~
Thank you for sharing these Cindy – a very magical place! I gained about 50 lbs just looking at those desserts lol! Hugs to you!
Yes, me too, laughing! But it wouldn’t stop from beaming right back over there for some cake and cookies!
Fantastique! Beautiful epostcards, thank you.
Thank you for such thoughtfulness & Happy Friday!
What a pretty pretty place.
<3 <3
I’ve been there too !!! Lovely places !
I am so glad you have experienced the region firsthand~
What fantastic photos! I love Alsace and you’ve captured it so well. 🙂
Awww, thank you so much & cheers to you~
Beautiful photos of this charming town. Love the winding alleys and streets.
Thank you, Cindy for the delightful walk. 🙂
I just wish we could pop into a patisserie for some pastry!
The architecture is charming and those pastries looked delicious!
I agree with you on both counts and thank you too!
Really wonderful!
So pleased you enjoyed & Happy Friday!
Have a great weekend!
<3
What a fascinating place!. Thanks Cindy
It tends to draw me back again and again~
Ever so pictruesque! Thanks for sharing, Cindy! 🙂
Thank you more for appreciating & happy weekend~
Fairy Tale indeed. Love the colors. You realize you are now responsible for another item on bucket list.
Jeff
Yay!!! Bucket lists are very good for you, especially when you start ticking items off!
Cindy, what beautiful, colourful houses and shops 🙂
Thanks Judy. I love it when entire regions are not afraid of using color!
Me too! 🙂
<3
Wow these pics looks like they’re straight out of a story book!
Yes, you feel like Alice dropped into a very friendly wonderland!
Storybook charm. And the buildings are as colorful as those pastries. Lovely, Cindy.
They are, aren’t they! I didn’t think of that!
They do look right out of fairy tales, Cindy. I love the narrow streets and how everything looks crooked. It’s magical.
Yes, the crookedness is definitely part of the charm. Who wants a straight street anyway!
Reblogged this on Talmidimblogging.
How thoughtful of you and much appreciated too! Merci beaucoup~
You’re very welcome Cindy and likewise 😎
<3
Very fairy land! And it’s so old, but feels so clean and tidy. Lovely place, and how fab that you got a shot of Jupiter! You know what? I bet Mother Goose lives in one of these towns! 😀
Oh clearly she must, I agree with you. There were storks everywhere who were clearly delivering babies, I have photos of them to prove it, so Mother Goose had to be there, but was just photo shy~
AbsoLUTEly fairytale. Beautiful. Did you see my gal Lorraine? I don’t know where she has gone.
Laughing, she is a beauty indeed!
Oh, I want to go! And hey, not just for the desserts. 😉
No, of course not for the desserts, although you should eat as many as you can justify to yourself! 😉
🙂
Wow! Just, wow!!!
Love that word, especially, twice! Hugs to you Jayden & great to hear from you~
Thank you! It was so amazing I couldn’t think of any appropriate words!!!!
<3 <3
Hardly seems real. So magical and lovely. Gorgeous photographs and I want dessert, please. Yum.
Yes, me three, I want three. Let’s beam over now!
WOW! What an absolutely charming town!
Little magical storybook towns with amazing desserts, who could ask for more?
Perfection!
<3
Charming place. I think the whole place is fairytale. The desserts look so tempting. Did you try any of them?
Oh yes, I tried the desserts, but eventually, after one or two, I have to discipline myself like a soldier and just march by them. So sad……..
Like out of a fairy-tale, Cindy! Truly stunning!
Yes! It is wonderful to stay here. We stayed in an apt in the ramparts that were built in 1250! Hugs to you my friend~ <3
Stunning captivating mesmerizing photographs
Awwww, kind, thoughtful, generous friend! <3
Totally charming place! Well captured 🙂
Thanks so much & have a wonderful weekend!
You too, Cindy, thanks!
<3
Oh good Lord, I had no idea such a place existed. It’s so charming I could die, and it’s now on the list!
Alison
You and I have ever expanding lists because the more we see, the more we want to see!
Exactly!
<3
So charming! And those desserts, oooh!
Stay tuned, I am posting more french desserts soon. They are so decadent!
Looks something out of a fairy tale. Did you see any pixies?
I saw storks, and I am sure they were delivering babies!
A beautiful fairytale experience Cindy.☺ Enjoyed the trip. ☺
So glad you joined me. It made the experience better!
What wonderful places – they look like they are out of a fairytale.
That is exactly how they feel too, especially when you stay in one of the very old places.
So lovely, romantic and wonderful pictures!
Ah, thank you & happy you enjoyed!
Would love to live here
My husband and I honeymooned in St. Malo France. We were so close to packing up and moving. The life is just simpler and prettier……
You guys are lucky. I may never see such places
Well, be careful saying never, you never (laughing) know what your future holds. I certainly didn’t!
I live in Nigeria. So yeah. But thanks anyway
Now I would like to go to Nigeria. I have only been to South Africa twice, but I never know if I will go…….
I love those houses! 🙂 Wish cities would still look more like that and not full of highrises and traffic… 😉
Glass box high rises. Steel and hard line geometrics. It is all so soul destroying, while this is soul lifting….
… and makes you smile and feel happy.. 🙂

More stunning travel pictures from Cindy Knoke. This time they’re from Alsace.
You are a lovely friend and I am lucky to know you~ <3
Oh Cindy, it is simply magical! I shall have to find a way to get there. Thank you so much for sharing this. I knew the region was beautiful as I drove on the northern edge of it several years ago but oh my… x
Yes. It is pure magic, and the food is this mixture of French and German and so incredibly good. Go off season to avoid tourists. Christmas markets here would be paradise!
Cindy, I always do my best to avoid tourists, crowds… you get the picture. It sounds lovely. A dear friend is suppose to be here late next month, from Sacramento, and perhaps if I send her this link… ? x

What a beautiful place! Such gorgeous images, Cindy.
Ahhhh, honored & humbled. Thank you & cheers too~
Are you sure that’s not Venus in the western sky?
Reasonably. I have a better astronomy, non-art photo with four visible moons. This was April in France. Jupiter was in opposition and closest to earth at 414 million miles and dominated the night sky. Venus was visible in the morning. Here is astronomy.com:
“Although Jupiter reached opposition and peak visibility earlier this month (on the 7th), it remains a stunning sight nearly all night. It appears about 30° above the southeastern horizon during evening twilight and climbs highest in the south shortly after 11 p.m. local daylight time. Shining at magnitude –2.4, the giant planet is the night’s brightest celestial object with the exception of Venus, which doesn’t rise until morning twilight commences. Jupiter resides among the background stars of Virgo, 9° northwest of that constellation’s brightest star, 1st-magnitude Spica. When viewed through a telescope, the gas giant’s disk spans 44″ and shows incredible detail in its cloud tops.”
awww Cindy, Ribeauville & Riquewhir. Riquewhir is a village of Ribeauville. Are they not pretty. they are absolutely one of the prettiest places in France. You reminded me of my adventures there. Alsace is a beautiful region, I am sure you have enjoyed yourself there. Who don’t want to visit Alsace? I have long time friends there that I have known over twenty five years. We still communicate. I cannot wait to visit again. Enjoy yourselves guys on your special tours.
Yes, we return regularly to Alsace, the food being as big a draw as the charm of the entire region. I am happy you had the opportunity to spend time here. Ribeauville, like Riquewihr, is both a separate town and a region……
http://www.ribeauville-riquewihr.com/en/discover/ribeauville.htm
I am sure you are enjoying. As mine, I haven’t taken my holiday yet. Since I used to holiday after school closed, I have always holidayed in noisy place where kids and parents were. Now that she’s grown up I go holiday before school close and after summer when everyone returns home. I am preparing to go away beginning of September. Just cannot wait. Enjoy your days and have all the fun!
Tellement d’histoire!
Oui! Et une nourriture merveilleuse!
Wow!! Such beautiful places, Cindy!
Quaint and darling. ..Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you for appreciating the charm! <3
Oh, what a lovely place to spend some time (though I confess I scrolled real FAST past the desserts, for fear of inadvertently adding a few unwanted pounds, hee-hee!!)
The biggest thing I fantasize about is beaming over to Europe for various truly epic desserts! They really are better than here.
Beautiful Cindy, thanks for sharing…
Thanks more for appreciating!
You had me at French desserts!! 🙂
We have the exact same priorities! <3
Wow lovely pics!!
Awww, so kind!
You’re welcome 😀
<3
Such wonderful colors!
Happy colors!
All beautiful images, as a young man I spent a little time in Europe and I still remember all the delicious desserts!
Of course you do. I remember each one of my favorites and where they were!
beautifully expressed
holiday with architecture
& treats 🙂
Thank you so much! Most kind & appreciated~
I can imagine living in such a pretty place like that! Hugz Lisa and Lucy girl
Yes, so can I!! Give Lucy a big hug from me and have a great weekend~ <3
I will and you too my sweet friend
<3 <3
Eye-canding and more. -Oscar
Yes, eye candy and actual French candy!
Love it. All that colour and jaunty angles. Find out what the designers are eating. 😀
Laughing…..It was long ago, God only knows what they imbibed!
Maybe colourful food is an isnpiration. 🙂
What a beautiful, splendid, magical place! I love it ❤️❤️
I love you for loving Alsace!
great places
Merci beaucoup!
So cool!
Merci beaucoup~
The colorful and whimsical look of Alsace is a nice visualization of the concept of *emergence*. The whole culture (Alsatian) has properties one would not expect after just looking at the parts (French & German). Hooray for the bright colors and the bubble bear!
Yes, it is a wonderful combination and mix of the best of the two cultures, both in architecture and in food~
Oh you are blessed to have been to such beautiful places. Thanks for sharing a piece. 🙂 x
Thank you for appreciating dear one and have a wonderful week~ <3
You too my friend. <3
<3 <3
I have never been but now I really want to go. What beautiful, enticing photos!
Oh, I hope you do go and post your photos when you do!
I’d love that!
<3
They’re so much more picturesque than the average house in the UK! Those French desserts have really made my mouth water. They look mega-yummy and so stylishly presented.
Yes, the US suffers from hum-drum-houses much more than the more charming UK. Everything beige, on cream, on beige. Did you know I once got in trouble from a homeowners association because my front garden flowers were too numerous and too colorful!
What sort of murky dismals would complain about colourful flowers? They’d be horrified at my garden, with my flamboyant tuberous begonias, striped petunias, and geraniums! If I got a complaint like that, I’d plant twice as many the next year.
I was so incensed you would not believe it! I love your term, murky-dismals! I’m going to use this if I ever encounter people like this again, which hopefully, I won’t.
Murky Dismal is a character who spreads gloom in the Rainbow Brite book I used to read to my daughter. If you click on the link below, you can read about him and see why I drew an analogy between him and those miserable anti-flower brigade! http://www.rainbowbrite.net/characters/murky.html
Oh my gosh! ” Smiles and bright colors send him into fits of frenzy because such things are just too cheerful for words.”
This describes those folks so perfectly. I remember one of them walking around with a clipboard, taking notes on neighbor violations. I am not making this up. When we sold and moved to The Holler, one of these murky-dismals, asked me, “Where are you moving?”
I responded, “Very far out in the country, where there are no home owners associations.”
It felt good saying this.
Brilliant. I love it. Well said 😀
<3
What a delightful place, Cindy and I love French desserts! 🙂
French desserts making overseas flights worthwhile!
🙂
Love it!
So great to hear from you! Hope you are well & thank you~
Was für wundervolle Fotos, liebe Cindy!
In Ribeauville war ich auch einige Mal – es ist einer der schönsten Orte, die ich je gesehen hab.
… ist aber inzwischen lange her.
Alles Liebe,
Michael
Ich bin so froh, dass du Ribeauville gesehen hast! Vielen Dank für Ihren sehr freundlichen Kommentar und eine wundervolle Woche!
Stunning photographs, Cindy. I couldn’t pick a favourite, they’re all so beautiful.
Awww, so kind of you & so appreciated too!
Wow, wow and I want to be there NOW! It looks just magical there!!! Beautiful shots too!
Awww, honored, thank you & cheers to you too!
Very lovely photos!
Merci beaucoup!
You’re welcome.
<3
I love these pictures! A great start to my day!
Ahh, happy it lifted your morning & have a wonderful weekend!
Great photos, what a delight, Cindy, to visit the cobbled streets and charming stores in Alsace. And those French desserts…positively beckoning!
Thanks my friend and yes, they make flying across The Atlantic worthwhile!
Absolutely gorgeous! Travelled this area as a young girl of 17 and loved them. I have to go back!!!Thank you for fantastique photos.
I hope you do go back, off season, not that much has changed in the old towns at least which is nice to know!
I remember how much I loved this…but we only have old slides. Your photos are so colourful and make me want to see these places with mature eyes.
Wow this makes me feel in need of a holiday there, were they welcoming to tourists, we’re hearing all the time now that so many places in Europe have had enough of visitors.
Porto is crowded with tourists, even off season, and I think the locals are a bit tired of it. I don’t blame them. Other parts of Portugal like Aveiro and the smaller towns are incredibly beautiful, uncrowded, and you will feel very welcomed in these charming towns.
There are no people! That makes it even more magical.
It is crowded even in off season. We were staying in an apartment and I took these photos at dusk after the day tourists had left~
Simply beautiful set of photos – original and interesting as always ! Bye. Kamila
Love your blog and wandering <3 my friend & cheers!
Reblogged this on luca701.
What an amazing place! It really would look quite old fashioned if it wasn’t for the occasional car in the background and the type of photographs taken of this place. Thank you for posting about it. It is a great place to learn about.
Yes, in sepia minus signs, cars, and electric cables, the place could look completely vintage, which of course it is!
