  29. I can never get over the cacti that have these beautiful bundles of flowers Cindy, like in your picture, from something that will bite so painfully. I know it is a great protection…but to draw us to it so strongly, then bite? Is that where narcissism comes from? Prickly personification…but don’t touch? ๐Ÿ˜‚โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

  40. Some friends of mine have cactuses at home and they do not impress me at all – just a briery plant. I believe they look like that because they are not at the natural environment. Looking at your pictures I understand that only being at the place of origin everything and everybody appear in all beauty.

    1. Thank you. You and I both. My grandfather who came from Bulgaria created the most amazing cactus garden in SoCal, that was featured in Architectual Digest, among others. For him cacti were quite exotic, and he graphed them and grew varities I have never seen since. He wasn’t a gardener. He was a judge. I learned everything about plants from him แƒ“

  78. Oh, splendid, Cindy! I love cacti in bloom. Mine have done pretty well. (I have the opposite of a green thumb.) Except the prickly pears. Unlike your gorgeous ones, for some reason that variety just doesn’t grow in my garden. Doubly odd since they are so common here.
