What shouldn’t surprise me anymore, but still does, is how opportunistic birds are. There were all sorts of species that didn’t “belong” in these ponds, but found their way there, and liked it very much! დ
Such a fun post!! I roomed with a group of girls in California–and we called ourselves the flamingoes, as most of the girls had strawberry blonde hair!! So, it was fun for me to be reminded of that college experience, when saw your flamingoes, and saw the hello from California!! :)Hope you are having a blessed day!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful photos of the amazing creations of our Lord!!! Everytime I look at them–I’m filled with awe at such genius and artistry!!
Wow 🌼 i never saw them from so near. Beautiful. So thankful for your blog and images. Every time stunning images . Love these beautiful creation of god. Happy Sunday CK
The detail in the feathers is amazing. Beautiful photos, Cindy. I enjoyed seeing the young flamingos. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen pictures of the young, and certainly not in real life.
I have never seen the chicks either. I was flabbergasted by how friendly they were. They walked up to my camera lens like they were trying to understand it დ
That’s probably not a good thing for their own safety, but after all, when they see how welcome they are on all the lawns (real or not), they must think they are bulletproof.
Believe me, I didn’t expect to see them. I have seen them in many places in the wild, where they actually live. These parents and chicks were in Palm Desert დ
Marvelous images! Up close and personal with those flamingo chicks. Lucky you! And the reflection shots are so serene.
(Looks like I may FINALLY be getting notifications from WP. Yay! Perseverance wins out in the end?)👏
No wonder they’re happy birdies, Cindy — just LOOK at that gorgeous scenery!! And the sunshine! Something tells me they wouldn’t like Central Illinois much, not with the snow and cold we get. Sigh.
My grandfather, grandmother, brother, aunt and cousins, were all from Chicago. I was the first generation to be born in California. They told me how fierce and cold the winter wind was. But, they loved Illinois, and the midwest, as I know you do Debbie დდ
I see that one of these flamingo’s beak is slightly crooked close to its mouth, their feathers are very bright. Thank you so much for sharing your marvellous shots.
Laughing….. A lot. I have been besotted with Flaming Goes (as my son named them), ever since I first saw them in the actual wild where they live. When they take off enmass in flight, it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen დ
Cindy, I am glad I made you smile🙂
Sometimes, when you emotionally overwhelmed, the thoughts are running in front of words. It is hard to express yourself in such condition.
I didn’t know about the chicks either. But I do know flamingos turn pink over time from eating pigment contained in algae and bugs. These little guys won’t turn pink until they eat lots of both, which takes a few years. If you remove these pigments from a flamingos diet, they will start losing their color as they molt. Nature is very interesting. დ
They are such incredibly beautiful creatures, especially when you see them taking off and airborne in huge flocks in the wild. Stunning. Thank you very much & stay safe and well დ
There’s something about seeing animals, especially birds that make me scared somehow but also in awe. Such magnificent creatures. And that’s a stunning view you’ve got there.
I never thought of flamingos as very pretty–dramatic and eye-catching in shape and color–but not really pretty. But those flaming chicks are really cute! I love their curvy, fuzzy necks! Also those mirror images in the water. Thank you for your eye for beauty, Cindy!
I’ve never seen a flamingo’s face this close up nor a chick! Very nice captures. To sit by that pond and read a good book would be the perfect afternoon for me…with coffee too.
Have a great weekend. 🙂
Nice! I hope you get to spend more relaxing days in similar places. I would take a cold thermos of my iced coffee and just stay there for hours.
You stay well too.
Wow! Amazing. beautiful and lovely photos! Dear Cindy, thank’s for share.
Have a wonderful time!
Elvira
Take good care Elvira & thank you very much დ
Thank’s, Cindy you as well. You are welcome 💖

💝💝
Great bird photos, Cindy! Golf course looks quite inviting, too. 🙂
I used to love golf courses, because I rode around in golf carts on them 😉
Lovely! Your photography is astounding. <3
So honored Linda. Thank you დ
My dad was a photographer. He owned a photography studio and a film developing lab. Your pictures are definitely professional quality.
That is so nice to hear Linda. Take good care,
What fine feathered friends you have, Cindy! 💗
They just do make the best of friends. They talk a lot, but it is good that I have no idea what they are saying 😉
They are beautiful, Cindy!
Yes. They are. Thank you Lavinia დ
Beautiful photos of this international group. Thanks for sharing, Cindy. 🙂
You are most welcome. I like it when world citizens get along and sleep დ
As of today, I had never seen an Australian swan. There it is the black swan they always talk about. 🙂
I actually saw them in Australia, on my first trip there, without out even knowing they were native დ
Now that was a mix Cindy, I think one of those cyclones from the Wizard Of Oz must have brought them all together. But great shots from Oz though 😂 🤣
Obviously, you are right Mark! დდ
So much lush vegetation and so many good-looking flamingoes! It is hard to believe that the pictures were taken in the desert.
What shouldn’t surprise me anymore, but still does, is how opportunistic birds are. There were all sorts of species that didn’t “belong” in these ponds, but found their way there, and liked it very much! დ

You just blessed my day! How wonderful this memory is. Thank you for sharing it with me დ

Makes me very happy. God’s beauty is all around us.
Yes–God’s beauty is all around us.
I especially enjoy your photograph of the Canada Goose 🙂
Like all Canadians, he is a very fine fellow. Plus he sleeps a lot, which is something I really admire დ
Desert beauty! ❤️
Amen! Such subtle and incredible beauty დ
Wow 🌼 i never saw them from so near. Beautiful. So thankful for your blog and images. Every time stunning images . Love these beautiful creation of god. Happy Sunday CK
Happy Sunday to you. And thank you for making me smile დ
🌼🌹
Those Flamingos beaks looked like they flew into a building!
Great shots Cindy!
The chicks were pretty big. They got so close I considered stepping back! 😉
young ones often times get too close
True.
Those young flamingos need algae and shrimp to turn them pink. They look friendly enough.
They were super friendly. Like most wild animals they liked the camera lens more than me. Smart critters დ

Good point.
Where did you find flamingos? I’ve only seen them in the zoo!
Believe me, I didn’t expect to see them. I have seen them in many places in the wild, where they actually live. These parents and chicks were in Palm Desert დ
Darn! I was there about two weeks ago… I wish I had known where to find them.
This may one of the most enduring joys of life. You never stop seeing and learning. If you want to.
That is a real clear lens, operated by a master. 🙂
Honored. Humbled. Thank you very much Jim დ
Diverse and surprising life in the SW Desert. Great photos!
Thank you very much Michele დ
Thank you!
You are most welcome.

beautiful Cindy
Thank you დ
These made me smile with delight! 🙂
You just made smile with gratitude დდ

Your usual splendid gallery. I like your beaks in plumage crops
Sleeping birdies are peaceful sights. They tend to watch you with one eye for a bit, until figuring out you’re unimportant and going back to sleep! 😉

So wonderful! All pics are amazing 👌👌
Most kind & much appreciated KK დ
That’s quite a desert oasis!
Yes. They support lots of wildlife in the desert დ
Oh my … .what a beautiful setting … and you captured it very well (as usual). 🙂
So appreciated Frank. Stay safe & well my friend დ
Marvelous photos, Cindy. Thanks for sharing.
I am very happy you enjoyed them Isabel. Take good care my friend დ
Very nice reflection from the water. I can feel the weather is gorgeous.

Well … maybe sometimes! Our Fall is hard to beat, with nearly perfect temps and low humidity … most years!
დდ
Stuning images of these birds! Love all of them. Thanks, Cindy!
I know you know, getting lost in taking photos is a transcendent experience. Thank you Amy. I get lost in your photos too დდ
I see that one of these flamingo’s beak is slightly crooked close to its mouth, their feathers are very bright. Thank you so much for sharing your marvellous shots.
Thank you for looking so closely. I think all of us are somewhat crooked in our own beautiful way. Love to you my friend დდ
Flamingos? That’s it! I’m putting my foot down. Lol! FlamingoOD pics as always, my friend ◟(◔ั₀◔ั )◞ ༘❤️❤️❤️

Yes. Silence is a profound experience დდ
Excellent photos! I didn’t know the Flamingo chicks were grey. Very interesting

Ive only ever seen a flamingo in a zoo.
They are most amazing in the wild, especially when they take off in large flocks დ

Thank you very much and lovely of you to stop by დ
Great photos as usual, Cindy. Have you ever seen the marching flamingoes in Nassau (Bahamas)? They are hilarious.
No. I keep hearing about them. I would love to see them დ
Hi Cindy, thank you again for making our time happier with your beautiful photographs!
Your kindness makes me happy Charles. Thank you & be well დ

Please enjoy these lovely photographs from Cindy Knoke!
Excellent photos. One can count the feathers…
Black swan, black swan? We are living a black swan moment…
All well Cindy?
Black swans are rare and beauteous. All is well, hope the same for you & thank you! დ
Working on it. Difficult to type with fingers crossed though.
😉
I always look forward to your photos.:) You must carry sunshine in your pocket everywhere you go! 🙂
Birds are weird! What was evolution thinking?! Haven’t a clue. Beautiful though.
Evolution was thinking, let’s make these amazing biological flying machines and cover them with colored feathers in every hue from nature’s spectrum დ
🤔
Your images of Nevada and California always make me happy – thank you so much for what you do to ease our minds and comfort our souls.
Awww…… Visa versa 2UX2 Sheila. Love to you & your family დ

Nice! I hope you get to spend more relaxing days in similar places. I would take a cold thermos of my iced coffee and just stay there for hours.
You stay well too.
They have porch swings, but I should call them pond swings! Heaven დ
That sounds lovely to swing over the pond. Now that’s relaxing!!
Very much so.
Your photos are always sensational. I’m thrilled.
