On The Road Again…..Finally~

California has fully reopened,

so we are on the move again.

We are taking a driving trip,

up the west coast.

The is The Central California Coast (click to see the surfers),

in The Big Sur region.

The sun is shining,

some light rain falls,

And the elephant seals are here!

Cheers to you from Big Sur California~

  1. Looks like what we saw yesterday on our drive along the California coast on CA 1, from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz. Fantastic!

  2. Exquisite scenery Cindy. Isn’t it great to feel freedom after all that lockdown time? And perfect timing since they only recently reopened an important segment that had been damaged. Your photos are a feast for the eyes. Best, Babsje

    1. Thanks much and you’re right. The 1 through Big Sur has been closed so often, the last few years, due to road blow outs. It is incredible to drive the entire stretch again დ

      1. You’re welcome. Loved the vistas in your post. Did you happen to see any of the smoke from the Willow Fire that is going on in Big Sur? The NPR website has a story today about the Zen monks from the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center who are firefighters. All that area – or California – needs is another wildfire!

        1. I have been reading about the fire. It isn’t evident here on the coast. We are now in Pt Reyes. California is facing a truly threatening fire season, north, central and south. We are here with the redwoods, where you see ancient burns on the lower trunks, but I know some of the truly old ones fell recently in Yosemite. If the ancient ones fall, it says everything.

  3. These are heavenly shots. Awesome clear transparent water. Giant mountains, these are a pleasing sight, after staying stuck with fear of COVID 19. It’s the look of freedom for us. Thank You Cindy for sharing your hard work.

    1. I know. The lack of freedom just wears you down. I am so sorry you are still experiencing it. I don’t think it is over for any of us though. I hope you stay safe and well and thank you for your kind friendship დ

  4. How lovely to see aloes peeping out in your fourth photograph – make me feel a link between us 🙂 The scenery you show is spectacular – how wonderful it must be to be ‘free’ at last. We are facing the ‘third wave’ and further restrictions.

    1. I am so sorry and I hope it ends soom. I expect there will be more closures in the fall over here due to people who will not get vaccines. I grow lots of aloe at The Holler and it has taken off, and is self sowing, so you are right, there is a link between us. დ

  5. I am so glad that you are able to travel again, Cindy. The pictures of the California coastline are very alluring for someone like me who has been and still is suffering under the Covid-19 restrictions.

  6. I love that area around Big Sur! So much beauty along Highway 1! Glad to see you are traveling again. We will soon, but I hope the Delta variant of the coronavirus will not impede us!

    1. If you are vaccinated, you should be good for Delta. The fall is another story though. Happy to hear you are soon to be on the road again. It feels so good! დ

    1. I find groups of elephant seals off by themselves, with no people around, and make ellie seal noises at them. It wakes them up and gets them to look at me, and then, “click!” I love them დ

  7. Dear Cindy, great to see some new photos of Big Sur again. It reminds me of our own trip from San Francisco down to LA. Thanks for bringing these memories back to me. Cheers, Uwe

  8. Lucky you, being out and about for another adventure! Illinois has mostly reopened, too, and I can hardly wait to do a bit of traveling!

  9. Yay Cindy! I’m sure it feels wonderful to get out and about again. I remember that stretch of California as one of the most captivating areas that I’ve driven. Happy travels! 🙂

  10. That’s very good news, Cindy. I’m ready for the rest of the world to reopen. Beautiful shots of Big Sur. Not sure if I’ve been there or not. Love Calif. coast line though.

  11. I loved this area and hoped to travel to Big Sur. Gene found a beautiful condo on the ocean with a wrap around deck “Tickle Me Pink” in Carmel. On our driving trip I could see the bridge over Bixby Creek and told him I couldn’t do it. Fear of heights you know… – if you’ve been over it you know what I mean! Great memories and my future husband learned a thing or two about me 🙂

    1. I am so glad you did this! It is special. We are now north of San Fran, in Pt Reyes for a few days, before we head further north……. I have actually never driven the entire coastal route of Cali to the northern terminus, so no time, like the present. Hope all is well with you Eileen & so glad you stopped by დ

  12. Wishing you safe travels. And if you are driving or the passenger – stop every two hours to stretch! That’s one of the things the doc recommended if we go on an extended road trip again. 😀

    1. So far we are dodging the heat, the coast is staying cool and foggy. I know inland Central Cali through Wash is experiencing unprecedented heat. Truly scary heat.

    1. Thank you Helene. There is notorious fog that rolls in and blankets everything, but I am not complaining. It keep the flowers blooming and trees healthy დდ

  13. Stunning photos! We’ve made this drive twice, and it never ceases to amaze and awe me with its beauty! So glad you’re on the move again! Enjoy!

    1. God, it is so good to be able to move freely again and see new places and meet new creatures and people. I have no idea how long it will last, but I am on the move. Take good care Oscar დ

  14. I drove there once. I also remember great hot spring spas one could visit. Ahhhh… Don’t know if I will ever travel to CA again; so thank you for your recent vistas.

  15. Beautiful! Finally some fun! That’s the last place we went on March 1, 2020 before all this mess started! Enjoy! We’re looking forward to travel in 3 weeks. Whew.

  16. It looks so vast, as far as the eye can see. Amazing how we’ve managed to pollute it so badly. I will never tire of seeing the ocean. It seems magical, like a mirage. Like how could there be this much water? Is that silly or do you ever wonder that too? 💛xK

  17. What blue and what a coastline. So glad you can travel about more now. In 1999 we did a coast coach trip from San Francisco to Monterey Bay. We saw sea otters which was amazing. Long time ago and haven’t been back….
