Look who’s been posing like a model,
at our local ponds lately,
Wood Ducks, which are uncommon in Southern California.
I need to go back and photograph the females,
who are not quite as show stopping as the males,
but are beautiful none the less.
Cheers to you from the uncommonly beautiful California Wood Duck~

All I can say on this one is WOW!!
They are definitely wowsers! Thank you Sheila დ
That was my reaction as well. WOW!!
They are wowsers!! 😉
He is quite proud of his good looks. Beautiful photos.
Proud, but shy. I didn’t get the sense he was stuck up!! 😉 😉
Our wood ducks are shy. He looks like a decent enough fellow.
I think he will make a good husband prospect….. At least for a season 😉 😉
Is this the mating colours Cindy? Great shots!
Thank you Wayne, and yes, these are the ‘show’ colors. Gorgeous aren’t they დ
Yes,they are gorgeous! I’ve never seen Wood Ducks before?
Alison, who lives in Vancouver says they are common there, maybe they haven’t flown over to Tofino yet…..
Oh and that greenery reflected in the water is a great back drop!
You have the eye my friend…..
He’s a beauty!
He is indeed. Shy too and not stuck up about his looks, which is nice! 😉
These ducks have such pretty combination of colours. They are awesome. Thank you Cindy. 🙂

A very handsome fellow!
He is lady-duck eye candy )
I am in l❤️ve! Nature outdid herself when she crafted Wood Ducks! And I believe this handsome dude will hire you as his personal photographer. 😘
I clearly got the feeling that he felt I was a lucky human to photograph him, and he was right!! 😉
Is he as round as he appears from the front, or are his features fluffed up? He looks like a little ball!!
He is one fat and happy duck dude 😉 😉
I have never seen a duck that fat and round. He belongs in a children’s book!
I would love to write one! I am so frustrated with the books available for my two year old grandsons, that I just make up the words….
There are so many children’s books being published now; I’m curious as to what you’re seeing as lacking.
First I thought it was an Imperial Peking duck (alive not roasted) then I started to think about roasted Peking duck and now I am in trouble. 🙂
Laughing….. I photographed Peking Ducks in Baden Baden Germany of all places. They were wild and thriving. They do look quite similar დ
What a beauty! Great photos!
Thank you very much. He is quite a looker isn’t he! დ
And shy, which is always an appealing combination! დ
Well yes it is 🙂
What a handsome dude! Around here wood ducks are very shy and one can never get very close to them. This guy seems right at home in front of cameras and people!
They were definitely shy. It took two separate attempts to get these photos and I used zoom. Next I will attempt the females….. დ
I live to see one of these in the feather! Stunning, and what great shots!
You make me happy I posted. Thank you very much დ
Wow! I have seen duck like that..a great poser.

An Impressive looking Drake
He is all dressed up and ready to go! 😉
He was posing for the best photographer around to make sure his good side was captured. Impressive.
You are a very good friend Marlene and most appreciated დ
Creatures are wiser than most people know. You get them and they know it.

I’d love to see one someday….they are so incredible!
Yes, they are. And just amazing to watch. They are shy, which makes them even more beautiful დ
Their colours are exquisite and the patterns applied with delicacy. What fun for you to come across them
Yes. I know. Such luck to see them. And of course you see the subtle patterns surrounding the bold colors. Just naturally amazing დ
He certainly made the most of his close-ups…
He seemed a most ambitious duck… I think he plans on going far in this world! 😉
Hopefully, far from the hunters. 🙂
Time for the Duck walk on stage!
Yes, he clearly is Hollywood leading man material! დ
The Wood duck is so beautiful!

He is beautiful and proud to show off..I thought it was a Mallard duck at first glance 🙂

What a beautiful and handsome duck. Any lady would fall for him… 🙂
She, of course, needs to proceed with caution. He could be all flash and no function! 😉

Not argument about here, she is absolutely beautiful to me.
So pleased! Thank you & cheers my friend დ
Love the color patterns on its beak and the red around its eyes. So cool!
Isn’t he a stunner. In the bird world, males are the showboats 😉 😉
He’s a rather handsome fella!
We, of course, need to go beyond mere looks and examine the content of his character!! 😉 😉
What vibrancy! Thanks, Cindy.
You are most welcome Pam & cheers to you დ
This is a beautiful duck – I’ve never seen this kind of coloring – thanks for sharing!
So happy to make the introduction and very pleased you enjoyed our feathered friend დ
It’s so perfect looking it almost looks fake!
Oh, what a handsome feathered fellow! If I would be a female duck I would have a crush on him. 😉
Best wishes, and stay safe, dear Cindy!
Hopefully there are wise mother ducks around to counsel the young female duckies that looks can be deceiving!! 😉 😉
Wow! He has such beautiful markings!
He is gorgeous isn’t he დ
Indeed, he is, Cindy!
Wowza Cindy! Such amazing colors and details. Thanks for sharing this woodland model! 🦆

Looks like a solid produck, my friend! ( ˭̵̵̵̵͈́◡ु͂˭̵̵̵͈̀ )ˉ̞̭♡
Yes, he is one chunky-ducky!! 😉
A very dignified fellow, he must know how colourful and lovely he looks.
Yes, there was a hint of pride beneath the shyness! დ
Are you sure that is not a wood-en duck? It looks too perfect to be live!
Smiling…… He is quite a fetching ducky! 😉
I love wood ducks!! Fantastic captures, Cindy! 🙂
Thank you & I <3 people who <3 wood ducks დ
Quack quack! 🦆
What a beauty!
He is stunning isn’t he დ
Beau Brummell would be jealous!
And after all Beau stole his feathers from our fine feathered friends! 😉
It is like he couldn’t decide what to wear so put on everything in his closet.
Laughing…..And it worked!! That’s the amazing thing 😉
The mandarín duck, is so beautiful! Love the colours! 🙂
Mother Nature had fun with this guy! 😉
Cindy your wood ducks are so beautiful with artist like colours compared to our earthy coloured birds here in Australia. Stunning photos !
Australia has the most amazing birds hands down of any continent I have been too. Maybe, we just get used to what we are used to! დ
Aren’t they absolutely gorgeous birds, Cindy. I don’t see them very often either, but whenever I do, I always admire them. Great photos. –Curt
Thank you Curt and happy you get to see them დ
Nicely done! They are wonderful subjects for your images. The colour is grand.
thank you. They make a photographer look good!!! 😉
I think your talent helps too.
He is absolutely gorgeous and your photographs are stunning.
You are a thoughtful friend, my friend დდ

Thank you both! He is quite the beauty and shy too! Cheers to both of you დ
Haha I just realised I commented under someone else’s comment. Not used to using wordpress with my phone, must had been scrolling down too fast to comment. I’ll stick to desktop! Cheers back to both of you Cindy and angelwhisper!
I say you there, so no worries! დდ
They look gorgeous ! 😀
Merci beaucoup mon ami დ
Beautiful bird. I wonder why the males always look the prettiest? Looking forward to see the females
Hi Beverly! I think the females have more muted colors so they it is easier for them to hide from predators while nesting დ
Oh! I see!. That is wise. The Lord knows best. Thanks.🙂
What beauty!!!! Thank you, Cindy!
Hugs to you Resa & you are most welcome დ
Such detail your camera has captured, Cindy! He’s a beauty, for sure!
So pleased you enjoyed Debbie & have a wonderful weekend! დ

Ahhh, thank you Jennie! The duck did most of the work! 😉
I think you are underestimating yourself. 🙂
Fabulous colours!! These photos are magnificent!
Thanks so much and I am happy you enjoyed them Carmen. Cheers to you! დ
Hi Cindy, These photographs are simply beautiful!
Ahhh, thank you so much Charles & be well my friend დ
They are gorgeous!
Grazie mille Barbara დ
I <3 people who <3 wood ducks! დ
He is gorgeous! They have wood ducks at the Japanese Garden in Fort Worth, and I used to love to take their picture!
I am glad you had the chance to meet them in person Kathy & cheers to you დ
Striking coloring! He must have been showing off for you.
Most likely it was a lady bird, but I’m not complaining. I got to see it!! 😉
What a gorgeous-looking bird: absolutely stunning. 🙂
Very pleased you enjoyed him & thank you Pit დ
Isn’t he magnificent? Nature is the original of great art, l am always in awe. The markings on his breast remind me a an elegantly beaded 1920’s cocktail gown! Again, such beautiful photos ❤️
Yes, you see things as I do! This is a 1920’s elegant gowned bird, but he is the original and rightful owner of the feathers! He doesn’t need the accessories that women wore back in the day to enliven the feathers, HE IS the living feathers! Humans are the accessories. Good to see, isn’t it დდ
It definitely is! Brilliant ❤️
Such an amazing looking bird. So nice to view these lovely photos.
Oh, thank you very much Helene. You make me happy I posted Crustaceans
Marvelous. You must have a great camera. One can count the feathers. But the eye is only yours. 👏🏻
Awww, so kind, thank you & cheers! დ
What extraordinary colouring. It reminds me of a Mandarin Duck I saw at Melbourne Zoo once.
Yes, Mandarins, prove Mother Nature likes to paint, well. დ

Gorgeous! It seems to know it too? Or just seems to know you’re watching 😉
Aw, thank you Christine. Birds always know you are watching, long before you start watching them! დ
Reblogged this on ckbooksblog and commented:
We’ve got one of these nesting close by our home. Not sure why since we’re not by water.
So wonderful that you do Christine & thank you for your thoughtfulness. The birdies and I are grateful! დდ
Thank you kindly დ
