“I’m watching you!”

This Night Heron spent some time watching me intently,

and then went back,

to catching crabs!

He caught a few,

and then hopped down,

and joined me on my picnic table.

I think he hoped I’d share my lunch.
Cheers to you & Happy Mother Earth Day from the people watching heron~
I love these birds, you’ve done such an awesome job. Thank you for sharing. π
I am touched. Thank you very much. They are wonderful birds aren’t they! α
Very good. Particularly the first one. Such impact. Compliments. ππ»
Ahh, thank you very much & cheers to you α
We have a nest of Hummingbirds on our patio. π Love your bird photos.
Oh my gosh!!! How exciting is that! Lucky you. They know they will be safe with you αα
Wow.. So beautiful images ππ
Thank you very much α
He obviously enjoys good company. Nice pictures as always.
Huge Hugs
My thoughts exactly!! π Cheers to you David α
Wonderful Earth Day post, Cindy!! These pictures are stunning.
Aww, thank you Sheila & hope all is well with you my friend α
Such a handsome and well-tailored visitor! π
I thought he had excellent manners too. There was no food, so he obviously stayed for the interesting conversation! α
π
Heβs a beauty, and your photos are so great. Happy Mother Earth day to you, as well.
Ahh, thanks much Lynette & take good care α
Love these guys! Great shots Cindy!
It came onto your table because of being conditioned by people feeding it.
Darn, and I thought it was my personality!!! π π Thanks & cheers to you α
Oh I’m sure there’s plenty of that going on as well.
αα
Herons are simultaneously funny-looking and gorgeous…how do they pull that off? π How do they pull that off? Thank you for the smile! π
I don’t know how they pull it off, but I love it too! I think people have worn heron feathers for eons trying to look as elegant as the birds! The feathers look better on the birds α
Yes, I agree: feathers look better, and should stay, on birds! π
We think alike!
π€
That heron is gorgeous
He is striking isn’t he! Glad you like him α
The heron is a handsome lunch partner, Cindy!
Yes. He was a seriously beautiful date π π
Gorgeous shots of a clever friendly bird, Cindy!
Love this.
Hugs to you Resa and love the gravatar! α
LOL…the Gravatar…just trying to have some fun. I know I am the same person, but when this virus prison is over, I will be different in many ways.
Life does that, it hits you hard, and makes you better ααα
A gorgeous creature. I love the added humor.
Herons are humorous! π
You certainly captured his funny side.π
αα
Wow, beautiful close up shots. Thanks for sharing β€οΈβ€οΈ
Thank you more for your thoughtful appreciation α
I think he tried to hypnotize you to give up your lunch.
He did. He used his looks to distract me and hoped he would have a chance to steal….such a tried and true scam! π
Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful.
Love to you. Always α
Iβm heron time to see these beautiful photos. As you know, over here we live with no egrets. Lol! Happy Friday, my friend! (ββΜ΄ΜΝβΏβΜ΄ΜΝβ)*β²οΎ*qββ‘ΰ½Ό
Laughing….Living with no egrets would be so sad, but living with no regrets would be Nirvana!! αα
What a wonderful collection of heron portraits, Cindy!
Grazie mille Peter! α
These are fabulous shots, Cindy! I enjoyed them very much!! β€οΈ
I am so happy you did Donna & thanks for letting me know α
Wow! Gorgeous photos!
SΓ₯ glad att du gillade och tack! α
Nice of him to join you for lunch!
I thought it was lovely of him! π
What an experience! I would love to see a Night Heron from so close.
If you ever head this way, I’ll take you to meet them! α
Your photos are always a treat. I love your narrative too, Cindy.
You make me happy I posted. Thank you & cheers α
Cheers!
Beautiful photos. Our night herons show up in the summertime.
I know you are glad to see them! α
Brave little guy π They have lovely markings!
Aren’t they striking creatures! Happy you like him α
Wow! π
Love that word Jim! α
Just a great π to you!
Tack sΓ₯ mycket! α
Your photos are stunning. You are a really artist with your camera. Thank you for sharing, Marie
Awww, honored Marie. You make me happy I posted. Thank you sincerely α
Fabulous. Herons don’t usually let you get close in my experience.
Yes. True. This was unusual. Often, even skittish birds are emboldened at picnic grounds, especially when no one else is there α

Marvellous shots and amusing captions
Merci beaucoup mon ami Derrick α
SchΓΆne Charakterfotos !
Vielen dank mein lieber Freund! α
Your photos are always magnificent, Cindy. Congratulations!!
Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated Isabel. Take good care & thank you α
Such beautiful ruby eyes!
Aren’t they stunning. The combination of colors on this bird are especially striking, and then they have that white plume lure feather. No wonder they often stare at themselves in still water! π
Happy Earth Day Cindy and friends !

This is one of my favorite posts, Cindy. The images, the title, and the ending lines, were pitch perfect and sweetened the start of my day. Thank you.
Awww, your incredibly kind comment just made my day my friend. Thank you very much & cheers to you α
Did he share his crabs? Did you share your lunch? Don’t keep us in suspense!
Smiling…. People food is bad for Herons, and raw crabs are bad for humans, so we were more congenial companions than lunchers! π
They are lovely birds, what great pictures Cindy. He probably would have eaten some of yours if you had left it on the table. π
He clearly was waiting for an opportunity! So happy you enjoyed & cheers to you α
As usually, sharp and beautiful set. When I see in the birds or animal eyes, it seems to me they understand everything, but ignore us to talk.
Animal and bird eyes seem very and differently intelligent to me too. I am happy you see this too. α
An amazing collection. The birds don’t seem to mind your presence. They are so carefree and relaxed as though you are one among them.π
Thank you! I hope they sense how much I love them α
Wow. What a magnificent interaction with this crab-eating heron! I am particularly impressed that s/he joined you at your picnic table. Thank you, as always, for sharing your wonderful photographs with the rest of us.
Awww… such a thoughtful and appreciated comment Will. Have a wonderful day α
Lovely photos and encounter Cindy. I think you’re becoming a bird whisperer! ππ¦
Thank you Brad. I think birds like me because I never talk! α
You never talk?
Not when I am among wild birds π
π
αα
It was great fun seeing you and the night heron become friends, Cindy. Photos are magnificent.
Awww, honored. Thank you and cheers α
Awesome close ups! I love their red eyes.
Thanks much. Aren’t the eyes amazing! α
I love herons. They do tend to like observing humans!
They do, almost as much as roadrunners! α
That maternal attitude is definitely in the bird in the first photo. Great capture Cindy.
Leslie xoxo
My mother still looks at me like this!!! π
It’s a classic look of wisdom, authority and love…..
Love to you Leslie αα
Great images!
Thanks so much! I am a serious admirer of your photography. α
A wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day, celebrate life and celebrate friendship. Hugs!
Hugs back to you Rebecca & Happy Earth Day everyday my friend αα
You weren’t dining on crab, too, were you, Cindy?!? Such BIG birdies!!
He didn’t offer and I felt it would be rude to ask……. π
Such amazing pictures!
Honored. Thank you very much Neha α
Youβre welcome, Cindy π
αα
That bird is definitely a character! Wonderful photos!
So happy you enjoyed him & thanks for letting me know α
And you didn’t feed such an attractive guest a bit of your lunch, Cindy? π βCurt
Nope. Not good for his figure!! π
I’m sure he thanked you. π
αα
These are all of the same bird? He looks so different with his neck all scrunched up!
Yes. Same bird. They have amazing snake like necks that they use to stab prey and then contract to look smaller. α
I had no idea!
αα
Oh, those eyes!
They are transfixing aren’t they! α
He is handsome. I think he likes to talk to you.
Smiling….. it was more of a silent conversation on both parts!! π π
Cheers and happy Mother Earth Day to you, too, Cindy.
Grazie mille Pam α

You’re welcome! All the best for you and your loved ones!
ααα
Love how you captured this distinguished looking little gentleman, Cindy. From his smart looking feathers in those colours to that face haha! Cheers
Just seeing you name in the comments makes me happy α
So beautiful.
I like how it looks at you in the first photo. Like an invitation to see the whole series.
Thank you for noticing. Looking wild birds in the eye is wonderful. α
I like your new friend! How tall is this bird?
About 26 inches, give or take, and I am happy you like him α
Wow! I love how you focus his/her eyes. Great captures, Cindy.
Thank you very much Amy. I love your photography α
Cindy, thank you so much for these beautiful photographs!
Visa versa 2UX2 Charles α
Wow, you got up close and personal with this guy. Do you have “bird whisperer” on your resume?
Makes me smile…. I am pretty sure listing ‘Bird Whisperer,” on my resume, would eliminate me as a candidate. But if the birds were voting????
His stare must have been rather unnerving, but in the end, it looks like you made a friend…er lunch buddy?
Thank you Kathy. I think he was more like an expectant dinner guest, who didn’t get fed α
Love the title! You really do capture the best photos of birds I will never see otherwise. Thank you.
Love to you Marlene, and be well my friend α
Youβre an excellent observer, Cindy! π
Thank you. So are you α
Beautiful captures Cindy and always so sharp and crisp, a credit to you my friend π
Honored. Thank you very much. I love your captures and subjects α
So handsome
Thank you very much for these outstanding photographs.
Thank you more for your kind appreciation α
