The Holler spring bloom is on, and I am home to photograph it for a change, so I am going to post a series on Holler spring flowers, starting with these beauties. The Cup of Gold flowering vine grows prolifically, and the blooms are humongous, about eight inches in diameter.
Hong Kong Orchid Trees have stunning blossoms that blanket the trees in spring.
Matilija Poppies are one of my favorite flowers and are Southern California natives, with huge fried-egg blossoms, about eight inches in diameter.
Reliable African Iris propagate beautifully at The Holler.
Wild Stinging Lupine cover bare areas, are beautiful to look at, but not nice to touch.
The Californian Fuchsia is native to Southern California but I didn’t know what it was. I thought it was in the fuchsia family but was stumped with identification. So my talented blogging friend Eliza Waters, who has a degree in horticulture and is a Master Gardener, helped me out. If you don’t know Eliza, and you like things that bloom and grow, you may want to check out her blog: https://elizawaters.com/about/
Bougainvillea are touch and go at The Holler due to frost. This one is definitely a go!
Cheers to you from the Blooming Holler~

Beautiful blossoms, such a riot of color! Thanks for the link, but the credit for IDing goes to Kris Peterson at https://krispgarden.blogspot.com. She is a SoCal gardener extraordinaire! I was just the connecting middle(wo)man. 🙂
Thank you for the link Eliza. I look forward to checking out her blog and learning who she is. But it is you who reached out to her and made it all happen! You are a connecting wo-man!!! 😉 😉 Love to you my friend and thank you დ

That’s blummin’ beautiful. Our plum tree is about to bloom. It was 20ºF this morning. It will bloom and get frozen as usual.
Oh dear. Poor plum. Our fruit trees are blooming too. I love the scent in the air. Stay warm Timothy დ
Wow! You are so far ahead of us, Cindy. My wife discovered the first tiny snowdrops in our yard this morning.

Honored. Thanks much Darlene & cheers to you დ
A celebration of spring! “Cup of Gold” is a great name for a flower.
Thanks much Liz. These Cups of Gold could hold at least a pint! 😉
They must be quite something to see in person.
The best show is April & May დდ
Gorgeous capture Cindy.❤
Merci beaucoup mon ami დ
These orchids are amazing. Awesome shot, Cindy. 🙂
Thanks much! I am so loving your series on Gibran who I so sincerely admire. Take good care my friend დ

So lovely! And what bright colours!
Stay safe, dear Cindy!
Thank you so much! Please stay and well too my friend დ
I greatly enjoy your wonderful photography and news of the ever evolving and magical Holler. Nature is an incredible example and teacher about living life to the fullest! It’s not complaining about what it’s lost or waiting for “some day,” it just gets in there, blooms, and sings it’s heart out! Thank you Cindy for the gorgeous photography and wonderful reminder from nature about living life as a celebration and gift, even the challenges, in your own little patch on the planet 😁❤️☮️
Awwww, reading thoughtful words like yours Liza are the reason why I so love blogging. It is so affirming to hear someone express beliefs and thoughts, that you share so completely, and you expressed your thoughts so eloquently. Thank you Liza. You touched my heart, and yes, absolutely, nature is everywhere, showing us how to live fully and happily. Take good care my friend and sincere thank yous დ
You are so very welcome and it’s deeply mutual! 😊☮️.
I love the African Iris and I do miss the Californian Fuchsia and Bougainvillea. Thanks
You are most welcome. I have seen the Californian Fuchsia growing wild many times, suspected it was in the fuchsia family, but could not identify it, which was atypical. I am happy to know what it is. It is a special plant to encounter on hikes დ
These are lovely Cindy. How wonderful to be home and watching these beauties blossom and spring unfold. I didn’t know about stinging lupines. Ouch!
Thank you Brad. I often wondered why I planted so many spring flowers when I am never home in the spring, so yes, it is nice to be home to see the whole process unfold, and I am planting more! Take good care my friend დ
LOL. Then you’ll really appreciate coming back to the holler!
Wow! How absolutely beautiful.
Hugs to you Gigi დ
Cindy it looks like you’re having a magnificent Spring there. The flowers are beautiful!
Thank you Leslie. I am working on the post about your paintings. I am trying to photograph them but running into difficulties with lighting. It is giving me something to work on! I hope you know how sincerely I love these paintings, and you for creating them for us. Take good care my friend დდ
It does my heart good to know they are in the home where they belong, Cindy.
Love to you Leslie x 2! დ დ
Beautiful! I love spring with all its colorful blooms. Enjoy! 🌺
Thanks much Ingrid. I was just over admiring your photos of Maricopa County and we are starting to think of traveling again and brainstorming ideas. Stay safe & well დ
There are some beautiful resorts in Scottsdale to consider. Let me know if I can offer any recommendations. Lots to see and do throughout the valley including photographing wild horses along the Salt River.
That sounds awesome. I will get in touch. Thank you for the kind offer Ingrid.
the Holler looks amazing all decked out in florals, Cindy! We have lupines and sunflowers that grow like weeds on our property! Another month at least until we see those. Hopefully the grading didn’t destroy everything!
I love native sunflowers and hope you post some photos of the blooms დ
Nature’s gifts to all of us. Stay safe and well Bette დ
Ditto, Cindy! How blessed we are… Have a beautiful week!
They are all beautiful flowers. In view of the big huge snow storm we are getting in the Midwest I think your images and flowers are a welcomed blessing and sight to see right now instead of snow and rain, but we realy need the moisture here. 🙂 so can’t really complain.
Happy the flowers sent you their sunshine Joyce. Stay safe and warm დ
Will do. Thanks 😊
Such a variety of colours for you in Spring. We rally have more yellow here, , surely more colours are coming! Enjoy your Spring!
Thanks my friend and I hope you have a truly beautiful spring დ
Splendid capture of spring flowers. March 12, 2021 was National Plant a Flower Day! Coming to the Holler was the best way to celebrate flowers all year round. Sending many hugs your way, Cindy. Thank you for bringing joy and beauty to my day.
Visa versa 2 U X 2 Rebecca. I planted flowers on National Plant a Flower Day and I didn’t even know I was supposed to!! 😉 დ დ
Beautiful spring flowers, Cindy. These colors are uplifting!
Thank you. I was truly blow away by your last set of captures Amy. They were magnificent დ
All may not be right with the world, but that profusion of color certainly helps, doesn’t it? I feel better already!
Yes it helps, and I am so glad you are feeling a bit better. Cheers to you & stay safe დ
Thank you, Cindy…you made my day!
Your kind comment just made mine! Cheers to you my friend დ
My pleasure, Cindy! 🙂
Thank you for the color! You fill my eyes so beautifully!
You are so welcome Colleen. Cheers to you my friend დ
The blooms abound! Such beautiful colors. Thank you, Cindy!
You are most welcome Jenny & cheers to you my friend დ
Wow! What a Spring show! You live in a remarkable place.
Thanks much to you & cheers! დ
Pretty colors. A lot people have planted blue lupine and blue salvia into their gardens, lavender to a lesser degree.
I have a lot of lavender in our garden. I like to dry it დ
Gorgeous flowers! The Matilija Poppies are stunning 🙂
Thank you ! They are my favorite flowers. დ
With our weather, which is going back and forth, your lovely pictures are just wonderful for relaxation.
Our weather is doing the same, warm and then snow. I am happy the images were relaxing for you Alexander & cheers my friend დ
Everything in the World is waiting for the end and only the weather never ended 🙂
Have a nice day, Cindy! 🌞
And sand from worn down mountains, whipped around by the wind.
Spring has sprung! No doubt about it Cindy. Your flowers are far ahead of ours, however. I think that the most we can boast are shooting stars right now, and even they are reluctant to peak out. (We had fresh snow this morning.) So, for now, I will enjoy yours. –Curt
We actually had snow that stuck on the mountains which was quite a surprise and I think we just got some more. Won’t stop the flowers though…. დ
I read that the Sierras got a bunch, Cindy. Our early shooting stars were pretty tolerant. Peggy and I went for a walk yesterday after the snow had melted and they were peeking their cheerful heads out. 🙂
I saw some shooting stars lately too. Always such a thrill and rare for me to see დ
Not rare here, Cindy. 🙂
Lucky you დ
All so gorgeous! I think you’re 2-3 weeks ahead of us, but loving the crocuses and daffs out so far. It feels like it’s been a long winter.
Yes, it has been a long, “winter, of our discontent.”
Matilija Poppies are stunners! I can’t believe that they are so big!
They are probably my favorite flower. I have collected seeds. You have to smoke them with burning pine needles to get them to germinate. Very difficult. It speaks to how Southern California has always lived and been reborn with fire. There are many other plants here that require fire to grow.
All gorgeous. In particular …
Love the subtle mix of reflected and transmitted light on the Cup of Gold.
Love the chiaroscuro of the African Iris.
Thank you very much. You are an observant perceiver დ
Gorgeous flowers! I’ve never heard of the Cup of Gold, but I love its color and so appropriate name! Those irises are also beautifully marked, leading insects right inside! So many flowers do that–God’s creativity and wisdom are so amazing!
Thank you Kathy. Indeed, God has given us a gorgeous natural world, all of creation for us to enjoy, and protect. დ
A beautiful colorful array of blooms Cindy, and superbly captured in all their glory ! 🙂
So appreciated. Thank you დ
Grazie mille დ
Cindy, thank you so much for these beautiful images!!!

Awww, thank you Clare. Kind and most appreciated. I am planting lots again too, which feels good. Take good care my friend დ
You always bring us such beauty! Thank you so much!
You make me happy with your kindness, so thank you more დ
Awwwh. Thank you but I mean it sincerely! You bring such beauty into this current chaos going on and wow, what a smile I get from the beauty! So grateful to be able to see it! 🙂 have a great day!
Thank you. There is always beauty waiting for us to find. Take good care დ
Yes and thank you for sharing it with us!
You are most welcome დ
All your photos are stunning but the African iris is amazing to me. We can’t get any iris to grow here. Naturally the more they won’t grow, the more I want one. 🙄
Laughing, I so relate. am exactly the same. I want peonies and they won’t grow here. დ
Snow has arrived today..Wish I could be where you are to see these beautiful Blooms.
I wish I could beam you over! Stay warm. Spring will be here soon დ
Wonderful, certainly a great range but I feel the same about bougainvillea and other Mediterranean plants. I grow them at peril as we are high up and can have frost. It’s been quite a damaging winter, even some snow!
Yes, they grow handsomely and then comes Jack Frost and they are not happy! დ

A riot of colours! Made my day with these beautiful blooms! Thanks for sharing.
Your kind comment made my day! Thank you & cheers to you დ
Pretty sights for winter-weary eyes, Cindy! Thanks for sharing these pictures. Our spring is just beginning now, but winter will give us one last blast before we can settle into the new season comfortably.
Strange weather days. It was 87F at The Holler today and Santa Ana winds. Unheard of in late March. Stay warm Cynthia. Spring is springing! დ
It’s 1 degree today but earlier days were mild so no complaints.
Wow! Hope you are curled up by the fire დ
Wonderful flowers. I like the fotos very much.
I am so happy you do Marie and appreciate you taking the time to let me know. Take good care & thank you! დ
