Giraffes know that two heads,
work better than one.
You can look two ways at the same time,
and one head can prod another along!
Three heads are even better than two,
but prone to disagree about directions.
Compromise must be worked out.
Four heads can be confusing,
but giraffes will usually agree.
I wonder, why can’t we?
Cheers to you for the cooperative giraffes of Kruger National Park.
(Note: This is a reworked post from photos taken in 2015.)
Years ago, I went to visit Kenya and of course I had to go and join a safari. I wanted to see the Elephants in the wild and the lions and fell in love with the Giraffes. Beautiful pictures, for the first one you should get nominated for an award like “Best Wildlife picture” or something similar.
Going to Africa is such an incredible experience. You fly on planes, and then you walk off the plane into an utterly different and oh so beautiful world. Both times we went we rented a car. The suddeness of being in Africa is surreal. When we entered the park, our first view was a big bull elephant getting down on his knees to challenge our car! I love Africa დ
I had a student who did three tours with the Peace Corps in Africa because she loved it so.
I understand. I would love to return for a third visit.
I know what you mean. I remember the first night when I looked the stars, they were so close. And during the day the colors, the smells, the people, the music. I love Africa too.
Yep. Amazing place დ
I’ve never been to Africa and seen these animals in the wild. These are very gorgeous photos, Cindy.
I am so happy you enjoyed them. Thank you Lavinia დ
Giraffes really is majestic animals. We have been lucky to see them twice in the wild. First at Fathala Wildlife Reserve in Senegal and later at Etosha National Park in Namibia. Really hope to get a new possibility to enjoy their presence soon. 🙂
You really got some lovely photos on the animals. Have heard so much good about the possibilities to get great views at Kruger, will see if that is somewhere we will be heading later on. 🙂
They are incredible to watch aren’t they. Some of the most amazing views of them that I have experienced were above The Oliphants River in Kruger where they would come to drink, oh so cautiously. They have to splay out their legs and bend those long necks down to get to the water and they look so vulnerable, fragile and beautiful. I am happy you have seen them in the wild. We had to go back a second time too! დ
Loved your series, Cindy! They are such gentle giants
They are gentle giants. It is impossible to spend time with them and not fall in love. People who hunt them for sport are inexplicable to me დ
Giraffes are such an anomaly in the animal world– Tall, gangly, yet graceful all at once! Such fun to watch them amble along. Fun pix, Cindy. 🙂
Yes, they are incredibly graceful and shy animals. Often these two traits tend to go together. I wonder why! დ
Great photo.. So pretty 💯👍
Truly nature at her wondrous best, love these photos Cindy… 💙💚🌏🌍
I’m going to stick my neck out and say these photographs (and the creatures too of course) are phenomenal.
Laughing….thank you so much for sticking your neck out Bruce & stay well my friend დ
That must have been an adventure you’ll never forget. Beautiful photos.
Thank you and yes, experiencing Africa is the highlight of a lifetime დ
They’re absolutely beautiful! 💕💕
Yes they are beautiful in every way დ
Hugs to you Eileen დ
Well done, Cindy! We have much to learn from the giraffes.
Thank you Peter. Peaceful, cooperative, live in harmony, yeah, we need to take giraffe classes……
Thank you for sharing the shots of the giraffes. Where did you take these shots?
You are most welcome. I took these in Kruger National Park in South Africa. Hope all is well with you დ
Cute post Cindy, when I saw the first shot I prayed Monsanto was not to blame <3
Laughing…..what was their old motto, something like, “The things we do will touch your life.” No s**t Sherlock!! 😉
Lovely creatures. Hope they survive us.
Amen to that! დ
They are gorgeous creatures! Thanks for sharing these Cindy.
Thank you for appreciating them my friend დ
What I like best about these photographs is that the giraffes are free and not in a zoo.
Yes. I hear you. There is no comparison to a wild animal that is free to go and do as they choose დ
Yes, we should all be giraffes!
Love this Cindy!
We would be handsome and peaceful! დ
Maybe my favorite animal, so unique, thanks for sharing!
They are lovely creatures დ
It has been a few years since I saw Kruger’s giraffes. Thanks for re-kindling some lovely memories. 🙂
So happy you have been to magical Kruger დ
Such beautiful creatures. We were fascinated by them when we visited South Africa 💕
Yes, they are easy to fall in love with! დ
These are fabulous shots of a magnificent creature. Thank you for the smiles, Cindy!
Giraffes are interesting critters.
Giraffe are among my favourite animals to encounter in the wild. You have portrayed them well in your inimitable style – lovely to see them 🙂
They are such wonderful creatures. Amazing to watch them. I love when they are surprised, they seem to move in slow motion panic, because they are so large, it’s a time delay to get them moving, but when they move, watch out!! Such elegant creatures დ
Lovely photos, memories worth reposting 🙂
Thank you very much. დ
Giraffes are elegant and sophisticated. I always imagine them on the fashion runway.
It’s those long legs, elegant clothing and gorgeous eyelashes!! 😉 დ
A high-bar call for agreement and for the common good. Bravo, dear friend! Thank you, Cindy!
You’re welcome Fabio. We need to listen to Rodney King, who I met once skiing, who said, “Why can’t we all just get along?” დ
So true, Cindy! Thanks so much for your comments and responses. They are important to me. Happy Sunday!!! 🙂
You are important to me. Stay & well დ
You too, Cindy! 🙂
How wonderful. I love their eyelashes and their gentle nature. So beautiful. Thank you.
You are very welcome Gigi. They do have the most rocking natural eye makeup up in the animal kingdom!! 😉
Pingback: Two heads~ — | Rethinking Life
That top shot is a classic Cindy, I feel like that some days…or maybe that is more ‘headless’ 😂 🤣
I can relate. I frequently need another head to keep mine sorted out! 😉 😉
Beautiful animals, I adore your photography and style, thank you!
Thanks for making memories alive again, magnificent animals.
Ahhh, you are so welcome Hans. Thank you & stay safe and well დ
Such graceful and gentle creatures.
They live harmoniously with each other and their environment, something we have yet to master დ
Such gorgeous creatures, Cindy! Wonderful shots 🙂 🙂 Hope all is well with you.
Thank you Jo! Much appreciated. Stay safe & well my friend დ
Wonderful pictures, Cindy….I love giraffes, they are so majestic. 🙂
I <3 my friends who <3 giraffes! დ
As good as ever
Thank you Derrick. Hope you and yours stay safe & well დ
You, too, Cindy
We are visiting with a friend whom we traveled to South Africa. She remembered that our trip was in 2012! Thanks for the images. – Oscar
How wonderful. I was just reading your most recent post and was so impressed with the points you made on a tough topic. WWJD is always a good guiding principle. I don’t think He would be breaking into the capitol and owning automatic weapons… Stay well my friend დ
I’m good at disappearing as needed (I think Jesus did that a time or two, also).
Stunning shots, Cindy, and a perfect metaphor for our times!
Thank you Terri & cheers to you my friend დ
Vielen danke mein lieber Freund დ
thinking of you. how you must miss being able to just get up and go… thank you for your ongoing photos and stories.. love em.! virtual hugs.
Awww…. so kind of you. Thank you for thinking and caring. Hugs & gratitude flying back to you დ
Ahh..a Giraffic Park! Things are looking up, my friend! ◟(◔ั₀◔ั )◞ ༘♡
Laughing….I look forward to the smiles your comments bring! დ
And your kind words keep me going! ໒( ♥ ◡ ♥ )७
Perhaps they are more open minded to listen to other when they are in conflict and then agree on compromises. We can learn from giraffes 🙂
Yes we can! Listening and compromising is more important now than ever. Thanks my friend and hope you stay safe and well დ
My head is swirling.
Laughing….Mine two!! 😉
Beautiful photos! Giraffes are such beautiful and unique animals.
Thank you Eugenia. They are special, graceful creatures დ
My pleasure, Cindy!
As always, I love your talent and the visual story-telling captured in your images, and then…. there is the next layer of this scrumptious dessert, you’re elegant and graceful zingers of truth with a touch of icing. Always a pleasure!😁☮️
Ahhh….I am touched by your thoughtfulness Liza. Thank you. You write beautifully my friend დ
I love this, Cindy! We can all learn from giraffes, can’t we? Fabulous photos, as always,
Animals who peacefully coexist have a lot to teach animals like us who often don’t! დ
Wonderful post, Cindy! Great message.
Merci beaucoup mon ami! დ
Giraffes are such gorgeous creatures. FAB photos.
I love them too & thank you Darlene დ
Wonderful! They’re such extraordinary creatures!
They are indeed. Graceful, shy and peaceful დ
These animals never cease to amaze me!
Aren’t they spectacular creatures! დ
Great photos. Beautiful animals. 🦒
Grazie mille John დ
Ahahaha! You are funny and clever, Cindy! Love the photos of these goofy animals.
So happy you do & thank you Teresa დ
It is nice to redo a post with great pictures. Nowadays we don’t go anywhere so we have to reuse other ones and you did it wonderfully with your comments under the pics. Love it!
I so appreciate your support! Thank you, and you are exactly right. It is not worth risking covid to take new photos. დ
How did you manage that shot? Two heads but just four legs!
Thank you for the smiles Cindy! I love the playful tone to your posts lately. I certainly need some play and lightness in my life. I remember being in awe the first time I saw giraffes at a zoo. I hope to one day see them and the other beautiful large animals of Africa. to more love and laughter! 🧡
Good question: Why can’t we? Great photos of these “long horses,” Cindy — they almost look happy to have posed for you!
I accidentally spooked the one running sideways, before this they tolerated me დ
Photos to smile at and words to nod to. Thank you Cindy 💕
Hugs to you Val & thank you too დ
Giraffe spots …
Spotters with spots!
Nice! I’m planning a trip to Kruger NP in 2022.
You will be in heaven! Lucky you დ
These made me smile. I love the close up portrait. 🙂
Beautiful post and photos!
Ahh, thank you Bette and lovely to hear from you Stay safe and well my friend დ
The giraffe in the first picture really looks as if she has two heads. Amazing!…
I always envy these animals for their long and thick lashes…
Stay safe, dear Cindy!
Giraffes are gorgeous, graceful creatures, aren’t they, with such beautiful eyes დ
The giraffes going different directions. Now there is a giraffe willing to stick it’s neck out, Cindy! The first ones I ever encountered were on the Serengeti Plains. I was driving around in a VW bug. They were tall. 🙂 –Curt
Laughing….. Yep. They have reach!! I insisted we drive a sport-ut for or second trip. Jim booked a 4wd compact for the first. The elephants thought we were toys to play with, which of course we were 😉
I’d like to know what they are thinking!
How do we get away from this pesky photographer person????
😂 I think they would be pleased with how good you make them look.
They should, shouldn’t they, but I suspect they would get further annoyed, if I tried to bring my photos to their eye level! 😉
They would likely freak out a little, seeing as it would be a rare creature on 2 legs that they’ve ever seen eye to eye!!!!! 🙂
<3 that you do and thank you!
Kind & much appreciated. Thank you დ
Giraffes are wonderful animals. Thank you, Cindy, for your magnificent series of photographs.
I <3 my friends who <3 giraffes, so thank you Isabel დ
Ha! I still can’t see the body of the second giraffe in that beginning photo, Cindy. This was such fun for my Monday morning. Here’s to a happy and sassy week. Hugs on the wing!
Hugs to you sweet friend. Stay safe & well დ
Simply wonderful! Great animals, lovely compostition and views, Cindy!
You are very kind and most appreciated. Thank you დ
These photographs are amazing. I like your animal magic narration too.
Awww, thank you Charlotte. Hope you all are staying safe & well დ
Wonderful! I know this was in 2015, but I had wondered if your twins got to go with you on photo shoots?? Or are they too young yet?
Well, I do photo shoots of them, which is super fun, and they are entranced by the camera, and like all children, beautifully photogenic. I can’t take photos when I take them places, because I am focused on keeping them alive as they tend to run really quite quickly, in opposite directions, to places they shouldn’t, laughing and saying, “No, no, no, no, no! Dangerous!” Two year old twins are tons of fun, and lots of exercise, but not so good at waiting while Nana takes photos! 😉 😉
I can picture this, and you have given me a good laugh this morning!!
no no no DANGEROUS – hilarious
They are quite hilarious, when they are not terrifying me! 😉
Such wonderful photos, Cindy! They bring back memories!
Thank you Susan and I am happy you have those memories. I know how special they are დ
💚⚫🤎🤍 love them thank you for repurpose for me 🥰
Awww, makes me happy I reposted Mimi. Thank you & cheers დ
I like to imagine the surprise, in days gone by, when someone would see a giraffe for the first time. There are a few stories of giraffes brought out of Africa as gifts to royalty of various countries and treated like royalty themselves, with their aristocratic faces and coats that look like pure velvet.
Can you imagine trying to describe a giraffe to someone who hasn’t seen one! Sorta like Plato in the cave. I doubt I could get it right, and I certainly couldn’t draw it, and even if I could, who would believe it?
love these Cindy. If 2 heads are better, what are 3? ❤️🤣
Confused! 😉 😉
Adorable creatures ! 🙂
They are special დ
Smiling! Thank you დ
Wunderschöne Bilder, liebe Cindy. Ich sah Giraffen 1969 im Serengeti- Nationalpark, aber nicht so nahe! Hab eine frohe Zeit.
Vielen Dank lieber Ernst. Ich bin froh, dass Sie das Wunder Afrikas erlebt haben, mein Freund დ
How could you not love those “pretty” faces 🙂
They are beautiful aren’t they, especially the eyes დ
These images are quite special. I shot some pics of giraffes on safari, but I never got as close as you did with that last shot. Great!!!
Thank you very much. I am happy you have experienced the wonder დ
Those are some tall tales. And tails.
The taller, the better, as you well know my friend! 😉 დ
Love to you my friend. Today is a happy day, My Christmas bulbs just decided to bloom! Hope rises დ
The earth answers winter with blossoms. I can’t wait for warm weather. I’m glad you have Christmas bulbs, you’re ahead of the game, as usual.
Cheers to you Brenda & stay warm დდ
They look so gentle and sweet Cindy.
They are special creatures დ
You must miss travelling around Cindy! I wonder If one can tell the age of a Giraffe by the number of wrinkles on it’s eye lids?
Great shots Cindy!
Thanks! Travel seems like a distant memory now…. Please, count the wrinkles and let us know your findings! 😉
Cindy, thank you once again for sharing your beautiful photographs with us.
Ahhh, you are so welcome. Stay safe and well Charles & thank you my friend დ
Reblogged this on Musings on Life & Experience and commented:
Outstanding pictures of Kruger National Park giraffes by Cindy Knoke.
Awww, you are such a thoughtful and appreciated friend Patricia. Thank you & stay safe and well დდ
I love these pictures of giraffes and your final question wondering why we can’t agree!
Thank you Kathy. We need to return to polite discourse, compromise and reason. These fringe extremes are so harmful დ
Amen to that!!
Love!!! I’m sending this post to my bestie. She loves giraffes.
Thank you! I <3 people who <3 giraffes. They are graceful wonders დ
She loved the post!
So pleased to hear! Thank you for letting me know & cheers to you Chandra დდ
Ahhaha! Talk about body language! Love the “prod” and “crossed heads” ones especially, Cindy 😊
Smiling. Happy you do Felipe & thank you my friend დ
What a say!? Beautiful pics and I love all the captions and have the same question as you. 🤔😄
Smiling. Thanks much and it is good to know that two heads can think as one! 😉
