Life’s a Reflection~

Of what we see.

What we perceive,

depends on where we look.

Beauty is everywhere,

just waiting to be found,

even on the cloudiest days.

Cheers to you from Olympic National Park~

(Note: We are home at The Holler now. These photos were from our May trip. I wouldn’t want you to think we are never home!)

  1. While all of the photographs are breathtaking, I particularly love the third one that is a study is shades of gray with two small figures where earth, water, and sky converge.

    1. Thank you very much Liz. I am just starting to think more about black and white. I love the spare starkness of it when the subject is really beautiful. Thank you for noticing.

  2. Oh Cindy, here I was thinking you had sold everything to be permanent planet wanderers enjoying the gifts of the Earth everywhere 😀
Well, we can all dream of it I suppose 😀

  3. Looking at your fabulous photos this morning is really invigorating. I may never see these sights without your blog. The art of buildings in the middle of nowhere is just amazing. I like the idea of seats in the middle of forests to just sit and take a moment to really look around.

  4. I love this post. You always have beautiful photos – that’s a given – but I like the text, too … plus the way the photos work to make the point. Simply excellent!

  5. You have given us another series of beautiful photos – and thoughts to ponder.
What we perceive also often depends on who is looking and how our mood when we look.
Copying another blogger, I have started adding “date of our visit” at the bottom of my posts because some friends and family were indeed having a hard time keeping up with where we were at the moment. 🙂

  6. A great message. At my school crossing, we have a neighbor’s beautiful backyard behind us in the morning crossing. Time to time, I remind the kids to look at it and to look at their surroundings everywhere, because you’re right, we’re surrounded by beauty. Sometimes, we have to remember to look!

    1. Yes, I walked out to this rock many years before to see the nesting eagles and got trapped by the tide. I made it back but not without swimming part of the way. Live & lean.

  7. Your photos remind me of what Ansel Adams said: “I believe the world is incomprehensibly beautiful, an endless prospect of magic and wonder.” Thank you for sharing some of the world’s magic and the wonder!

  8. A profound thought to begin my day. I agree – life is a reflection and we must, must, must embrace our moments in the spirit of this idea. The quote that came to mind when I was view your exquisite photos was by Carl Jung: “Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment and especially on their children than the unlived life of the parent.”

    1. He was such an incredible person. It took me a long time to really understand Jung, but once I did there was no going back. Did you know he was struck by lightening as a young man and was pronounced dead. He resuscitated, but his spiritual experience led to his subsequent theories. He famously said, “I don’t believe in God. I know God.” Not an exact quote but close enough. Thank you for sending another of his prescient thoughts my way Rebecca <3

      1. I have goosebumps reading your comments. I did not know that he was struck by lightening. I first read Carl Jung’s book Memories, Dreams, Reflections in the mid 1990s. I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about when I first started out and tended to discount his work. How foolish. By the end of the book I was changed. Like you, there was no going back. And that gives me great comfort. Hugs!!!

          1. There it is Rebecca. I am so surprised I chose the right interview to send to you, because there are many, must be synchronicity. The interviewer asks Jung, “Do you believe in God?
Jung says, “That is difficult to answer. I know God.”
This had a serious impact on me.

  9. Welcome home! Tis nice to travel, but nothing beats coming home and sleeping in your own bed! These are beautiful shots, Cindy — thank you for sharing them here.

  10. Wow wow wow! I am in awe of the beauty from these photos!! You are so right – beauty is everywhere. We need only correct the lens through which we see 🙂 Blessings to you & yours! ♥

    1. Yep. The park is so big, and there much always left to explore, no matter how often you visit, but you can’t leave, at least I can’t, without saying adieu to Ruby.

      1. Beautiful, Cindy! We are still in the PNW and recently visited Olympic National park, what an incredible place!

I haven’t been blogging or reading lately, but wanted to check in on your beautiful work today! Cheers!

  11. I once camped in the Olympic National Park (many, many moons ago) and was blown away by beauty. Thanks for these beautiful reminders of that time.
Delighted to know you are home in the hollers, though. Enjoy your time at home.

  12. I loved all the photos, especially of the driftwood. It speaks to me. You are correct. There is beauty everywhere depending on your view of life that day and moment. Perception is everything.

  13. Incredibly beautiful photographs, done with such artistry and with such an eye that always captures the essence and the intensity of the nature that you photograph with such love and care. And you are absolutely right, beauty is everywhere but sometimes we just do not look. Thank you Cindy for bringing such beauty of nature to our eyes.

You mean you actually go home, lol. 🙂

  16. Awesome photo series, out of all the National Parks, the Olympic NP is my favorite because of the diversity of scenery ~ and the beauty which you have shown here. Cheers and wish you a great autumn, Cindy.

  17. Ruby Beach? One of our absolute favorites! Once the tidepools were really full and we found an otter hanging out, waiting for the tide to come back in!

      1. It was my favorite highlight ever of being there! Right there, swimming around, glaring (haha) at we camera holders. The pool was only 10 feet or so wide, maybe 20 long, wrapped around a huge rock. He swam as close as 6 feet. Ahhh. I could have watched him all day. 🙂

  19. Cindy, I am sorry to write my humble opinion right here. I would not like to bother your followers who read your last post about anxiety, if any of them will read my comment.
You know what, that situation we are in is the great test for the society. We have take care about ourself, our loved, friends and people around us in general. Mostly in the stressful situations people behave accordingly. However in the dramatic situation a lot of people losing their mind and create panic and instability. Nowadays I read a lot of posts and articles about abnormal human behavior, especially in the grocery stores. It is sad.
You do the great job trying to explain people how to avoid anxiety and stay calm. Thank you for your efforts.
I’ve been in a lot of stressful situation in my life, know people, and know how to survive.
Hopefully, everything will be ended and come back to normal.
Stay calm, healthy and happy. Smile and laugh. Life is going on!

    1. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and helpful insights Alexander. I couldn’t possibly agree with you more. “Stay calm, healthy and happy. Smile and laugh. Life is going on!”
I love this philosophy! In life we are always in the midst of death. We must live fully in this moment in order to enjoy the time we do have. It has always been the case that now is all we really have. They have never been any guarantees about tomorrow. So I agree, smile, laugh, live. Life is beautiful. Thank you Alexander and take good care.
