Peruvian Pelis~

Coquimbo Chile is a marine bird paradise!

It is home to the impressive Peruvian Pelican.

Peruvian Pelicans are twice the size of their northern cousins and stand up to five feet tall!

They somehow manage to look individually comical,

but sober as judges in a group.

These beauties were photographed in Coquimbo Chile, and on the Palomino and Ballestas Islands off the coast of Peru.

Cheers to you from the pretty as a picture Peruvian pelis~

        1. Yeah, I know. Remarkable. To me it is nothing short of wonderful to see a bird that isn’t the least bit intimidated when I come near, and actually beckons me closer, to look me directly in the eye.

    1. They are very friendly and not at all intimidated which isn’t surprising considering their size and their beak. Everything is bigger in the southern hemisphere.

Great captures! Cindy. Fantastic big birds, gentle giants. I’ll be visiting Peru next year in February. I’m planning to visit Islas Ballestas and Paracas. 🙂

    1. Thank you Marlene. They are beauties aren’t they and they have such stately presence. I have learned that envy only works when you don’t have all the facts!! 😉 <3

  3. Your running commentaries are almost as entertaining as the photographs. Almost. And I like how you bring back from far-flung places with such treasures to share.

  4. Absolutely amazing, Cindy! Wonderful shots of these beauties. I never knew they were that big, and the colours are extremely beautiful. My colours as well…cannot but love them. And they have got character – indeed!

    1. They are amazing in flight aren’t they. These guys don’t dive like the ones you live around. They float on the ocean and catch the fish that swim by. More energy saving approach to fishing 😉

    1. Yep. Birds and boats, fisherman and creatures. It is an old relationship, There are so many more photos I have of these true fisherman, who go out in their tiny pangas, and brave the sea. They have relationships, which I have photographed, with gigantic sea lions, and all the crying birds, to whom they toss fish.

  5. I was just thinking tonight, “where in the world is Cindy”? I see Peru is the host and perhaps you’re been held hostage by Pelicans, ha! At 5′ tall, they’re nearly as tall as me. Cranky, that’s one big bird! Cheers dear x K

    1. At this momentito in X. I am ensconced at The Holler, watching the barn owlets leave their box. These photos are from our March trip. I always have more photos than trip! Hugs to you sweet friend <3

  6. I can’t help wondering why they all stand around with their heads tucked, Cindy. “Sober as judges,” indeed! But at least it looks like they all went to the same grooming salon, ha!

    1. Laughing….I am home now. These photos were from our March trip. I always have more photos than trip, so I often post more photos after I have returned home. Cheers to you Alexander~

    1. It is rather shallow isn’t it. We do it on both ends. The naked mole rat got a lot of attention for being unattractive. I think it’s Chaucer’s fault. He started the whole looks reflect character trend 😉

      1. I suspect he was the first to write about it officially but was simply reflecting what people had already been thinking about.
Ya,those mole rats certainly weren’t around when good looks were being handed out!

  7. Holy Hannah — I didn’t know there were any pelicans that tall! It must be intimidating when they drop in for a visit. Captivating photos, Cindy. Thanks for sharing them. Hugs on the wing!

  8. Coucou toi belle CINDY
