Lerwick is located 123 miles off the coast of Scotland,
and is the most northerly town in the UK.
It is the main town in The Shetland Islands,
and 7000 souls call Lerwick home.
Evidence of human settlement here dates back 3000 years!
Lerwick is a natural treasure,
with abundant sea life and birds.
Cheers to you from the remote and beautiful Shetland Islands~ (Coromrants)

Please forgive me for not being as able to visit and comment on your blogs as much as I would like. Internet out here is difficult to access.
Beautiful photos, Cindy! 🙂 The colours are so pretty and such a contrast to the overcast.
I think they use these colors for just this reason!
Amazingly beautiful photos Cindy, from the outskirts of society, everything looks so pristine…..
Pristine, beautiful, natural,….perfection!
A pure life, no human greed out there destroying nature. 😊 😊
Exactly. It makes me want to live here.
I’ll join you, would they need a plumber/poet over there 😉
Everywhere needs more plumbers and poets. And a two in one offer? Priceless. Let’s move!
Sounds great, it’s a long way away, I’ve yet to fly out of Australia, but I am going to China on a little 10 day tourist trip, I’m going to see The Wall, and hopefully I’ll be in America just after Easter next year. 😊
Good for you! Go forth and see!
I’m 67 now, and it’s time, to see a bit of the world, and I’ve strong feeling her spirit and presence with be with me all the way, oh we had so many dreams of doing all this together …….
Go then please & make her happy. You, and she, have touched my <3

Cheers & thanks flying back to you!
So pretty! Lovely
Very kind & most appreciate!
There’s no better place than a beautiful Scottish island, but I am of course totally biased! Might you be coming anywhere near Edinburgh on your travels? It would be great to meet for coffee….? x
Oh I would so love too! Unfortunately we are staying ono the islands this trip. The closest we get to the mainland is Oban.
well that’s no bad thing – time on the islands is always so special. You will just have to come back and do the mainland another time!! x
And there is the Orkneys too! <3
Yes indeed! We’ll be there next year – can’t wait!
Love seeing these pictures, especially after reading the Shetland series by Anne Cleeves.
Wonderful that you enjoyed & thanks for letting me know!
Stunning!
Thank you kindly <3
Cindy, no wonder you haven’t got time for blogging … or signal for that matter.
Your photos are a delight, exploding and yet calm with colours.

Wonderful images, Cindy.
Thanks much and it is my kind of place too! I wonder why my grandmother ever left.
It’s a nice place to live.
Imagine living in such a peaceful place!
Your photos are lovely, surely this is one of the worlds most beautiful and peaceful regions. To visit would be a dream come true 🌸
Yes, the peace and tranquility often makes me wonder why we don’t live here!
Thank, Cindy, for these pictures. Don’t you worry that you can’t visit other blogs (as much as you want to). I know what a shaky internet connection means. All the more I’m happy that you do take your time and make the effort to show us your pictures! Much appreciated.
Have a great time up there, and a safe return hom,
Pit
This is such a lovely comment and it is to appreciated Pit. Thank you & cheers to you!
Is it getting harder to get away? Will you visit Bobby’s Bus Shelter?
Oh, I so hope soooo!!!
So beautiful! Love the colors against the blue water and green land. Thank you, Cindy.
Thank you more for the lovely comment Jenny.
A pleasure, Cindy. 🙂
A beautiful town and island so far north off the coast of Scotland! Hope you will get your Internet working full force again, Cindy!
Thank you Peter. The internet is variable and not consistent. When it works I take advantage of the window!
Another great post as usual.
I thought you might like to know you have a typing error in the post title.
Oooooh, you are right! Thank you so much. Just fixed it thanks to you <3

Beautiful pictures of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands from Cindy Knoke.
Hugs and gratitude to you sweet Patricia <3 <3
Love the colorful houses there. Oh the bright blue boat too. It is interesting you do see those kind of decorating in US or at least as far as I can observe. Love that blue boat picture!
Isn’t that a beautiful boat! It is a work of well cared for art. Hope all is well with you my friend.
Beautiful town, gorgeous views. Thank you, Cindy for posting while you are traveling
Thank you more for your very kind appreciation Amy!

What a beautiful post!
So kind of you & so appreciated too!
Pure Beauty! Our three weeks in Scotland were life changing. Can’t wait to go back and now Lerwick is on my list!
Wonderful! You will love your time there <3
I kept looking for a Shetland pony!
Oh they are so adorable!! I will post some.
Oh my I’m going to be in Lerwick soon singing Uccelina in BambinO what a shame our paths didn’t cross, these photos you took are amazing Cindy I’m going to share a link to your site tonight in my blog post, I hope that’s ok.
Enjoy the rest of you travels, I’m in Aberdeen on the 7th if it’s a port of call for you?
Oh, I wish we could have seen your performance! Someday, we will! Enjoy Lerwich. It is truly a beautiful place. Visit Mousa if you have time. <3
Mousa looks fabulous too, it would be a shame to go all that way and not see it.
Enjoy your time in Scotland. Love these pictures. xo
Thanks much & cheers to you!
Lovely, Cindy, we haven’t been there yet.
Leslie
Happy you enjoyed & hope you visit!
I really hope we can make it Cindy.
Leslie xoxo
It is beautiful there! Love Scotland- never ventured that far up though. Only to Kirkwall – the Orkneys.
I want to visit the Orkneys! So many places to see! <3
I bet the color helps during the gloomy season!
Definitely! I saw this in Finland and Sweden too. It is so charming.
Yet again, we pass each other by. We had a Shetland adventure the end of April. What a wonderful week it was – just as the daffodils were blooming. I love traveling between the island on ferries, following the craft trail, discovering the story of the boats and crofters. Your photos are magnificent, as always.
I know you spend a lot of time in Scotland Rebecca and am so pleased we both have experienced the amazing Shetlands! <3
One day we will meet! 🤗🤗🤗
Why not in Cley? I’ll put the kettle on! 🙂
That would be marvelous!!!! Hugs coming your way!!
Cley has moved to the top of my list with the major attraction being spending time with all of you <3 <3
We visited the Fab Four of Cley in 2017 – the highlight of our adventure. What a wonderful place to meet and share a cup of tea and excellent conversation. Hugs to all…
Yep. I get it. Bloggers rule in kindness and talent.
You have a wonderful way with words, Cindy. Love coming back!!!!
<3 <3
So beautiful and fascinating! Those shots of the village look almost like folk art paintings!
I agree. The quaint beauty was truly striking!
Don’t give it another thought, Cindy — you can catch up when you return. In the meantime, wow, these are lovely shots! I was thinking there didn’t seem to be much green grass for walking about when I came upon your fourth and sixth photos. All that water … sigh.
Such a special, unique and beautiful place!
Wunderschöne Bilder und Landschaften! Danke fürs zeigen. Ernst
Vielen danke mein lieber Freund Ernst <3

So excited you will be visiting! It is truly an amazing place. <3
How quaint and beautiful! You really are a modern day gypsy! <3
The use of red paint certainly brightens up the place. I can imagine the North Sea rules the landscape. Great gannet shot… Enjoy!

Here are more beautiful photographs from Cindy Knoke!
How luscious. Beautiful photographs. I would tell you to have a fabulous time, but I know that you already are. <3
I loved seeing those pictures. I did a portrait of a fellow there, feel it is the best thing I have done and have it hanging on our dining room wall. But these photos bring many more memories back.
Shetland is on my itinerary for an extended journey, including Iceland and the British Isles. Won’t be until 2021-2, though.
We are heading to Iceland next, so I well appreicate your itinerary.
What an enchanting place. I love your photographs of it.
Alison xo
Thank you Alison & cheers to you from Scotland!
Oh Cindy, what a treat. As always your photos are stunning. Hmm, by Ryanair, Scotland isn’t that far from here… 😉 xx
It is a mere hop and skip away <3
Yes it is. Enjoy each hop and each skip <3
<3 <3
<3 <3
Lerwick is always mentioned on the Shipping Forecast but I’d never seen photos of the place. Has a rather Scandinavian look to it.
Yes, the Scandanavian presence and influence is pervasive and most charming.
Since your LIKE button doesn´ work, probably because of those beautiful photos we went ¨pluf¨,
so LIKE
Thank you Charly & be well my friend~
How lovely is Lerwick! It’s interesting to see the town buildings so very close to the sea; house maintenance because of sea water and salt spray must be an on going task.
The sea definitely defines and is the life blood of these beautiful islands and yes, salt spray is everywhere.
What a gorgeous town!
Yes. So peaceful and beautiful.
Fabulous! Definitely on my ‘to visit’ list. This year we are doing the Inner Hebrides. Maybe next year…
We may be in the Hebrides at the same time!
Wow! When are you going?
Tomorrow!
We are going in October, so we’ll miss you but have a wonderful time.
<3
Truly a storybook place and your photos are (as always) wonderful!
Grazie mille Dor!
Lovely place…. and so Scotland. Thanks for the photos, Cindy.
Thank you more for the kind appreciation!

Merci beaucoup mon ami~
I love Scotland, it is one of my favorite places in Great Britain. Beautiful photos Cindy.
I love Scotland too. So amazingly beautiful, and so variant. I am seeing the Shetland Islands and the Hebrides. The most beautiful places on earth seem to be the most unihabited by humans.
I agree Cindy.
<3
The Shettlands seem so remote, yet so quaint and wonderful.
It is amazing isn’t it. We sometimes equate population centers with value. But i have found true beauty in remote places with the peole who live there.
Thanks to the colorful introduction to this beautiful place called Lewrick! 🙂
Oh, sweet friend, thank you for seeing and appreciating~
Thank you for sharing, :)<3
<3 <3
Gorgeous and tranquil vistas.
Thank you for appreciating tranquil vistas~
Beautiful place. 🙂
Yes! Thank you.
Fantastic images. Lerwick looks like a beautiful place to visit. Thanks.
Thank you more for such a kind comment & cheers to you!
My pleasure. Thank you as well.
So did you meet Douglas Henshall? Okay, just kidding. When I visited Scotland many years ago I noticed how the colors changed from the many shades of green in England to the purples and browns of Scotland. Beautiful country.
Yes, in the Hebrides there are purple, reds, brown and green in the sod, streching as r as the eye can see, quite beautiful!
Hope I can return some day.
I am still here, and already feeling this way!
I’m always impressed how humans find homes in the remotest of places.
They are either lucky or smart, or both!
That is true!
<3
Beautiful images💕💕👍👍
Thanks much!
A wonderful skyline. Sad only the bad internet connection. All the places which are possible to emmigrate are with bad internet connection. Seems someone needs to think on satellite internet first. 😉 Michael
On my list – Orkney and Shetland. Midsummer, though… Lerwick looks a fine place. RH
It is all stunning. Cheers to you from Iceland~
Hi Cindy– love your travel photos!! And Lerwick looks so charming with it’s colorful buildings spilling down the hillside! Would love to be able to walk into your photos! thanks! xxoo
Just like walking into Bert the chimney sweep’s chalk drawings in Mary Poppins!
I love the colors of their houses and buildings with the lush green, and cloudy sky. It really makes those colors pop.
The Gannet was a treat! I’ve only seen one and that was from very far away while on a birding excursion out to the Farallon Islands outside of San Francisco. Apparently that birds shouldn’t be here at all, but it was that year.
Thank you very much and, yes, birds often go where they are not supposed too! Clever critters. I once saw Boobies in the So Cal Channel Islands.
It’s absolutely wonderful to gaze at the world through your camera, Cindy!
Visa versa 2UX2 <3
Beautiful pictures, Cindy. I loved Lerwick and Shetland in general when I visited a few years back. But what impressed me most was Jarlshof. Amazing place. https://wp.me/p3iSpU-bd
Cindy-
your talent is truly exquisite – you have an innate ability to harvest bounty in every image
am:)
Ahhhh, such a very kind comment . Thank you. You touched my <3
😊🌹
Delightful, Cindy.
Mille grazie!
Lovely location! And the history of such an old city must be amazing! Thanks for sharing, Cindy.
Thank you for your thoughtful appreciation.
Such a definite and sturdy looking place with bursts of color; humans can be so creative!
Yes ! And it is when we are kind, and creative, that we are at our ultimate best <3
I had to revisit this post because several days ago, I started watching the detective show, Shetland, on Netflix. I heard about this town in the show. I think, more than the drama itself, it is the rugged beauty of the islands that attract me to it. The charm of the Scottish accent is a plus, too.
IN fact, this place also brings to mind that other show which I think is set in Wales, Hinterland.
What beautiful places they are.
I need to check out both. The Shetlands are absolutely stunning and so are The Hebrides. I, like you, often enjoy the cinematography of amazing places in movies, more the the movie itself!
I (and your readers) see the world through your lens. I am so happy!
I am honored and humbled. Thank you for such thoughtfulness.
Absolutely beautiful sceneries. What a lovely place it seems to be.
The Shetlands and The Hebrides are truly stunning places!
I think I have to go there too. Not just to Iceland 🙂
I agree!
I often don’t appreciate the clutter of humans, power lines, tons of homes, ships and the like, but sometimes it can be beautiful. You really captured that beauty in the photos of Lerwick!
Thank you. It has a charm doesn’t it, that newer cities lack.
You are welcome. Yes, it certainly does!
