The Salton Sea,
in summertime,
is scorching,
stark,
solitary,
and stunning.
No one here but you,
and the silent sea.
Good news for a change! California voters passed Proposition 68 this week which will allocate $200 million dollars towards saving The Salton Sea. The monies are earmarked towards rebuilding the wetlands that are so crucial to migrating birds and to conserving all the wildlife that depend upon the sea. Funds are also allocated to mitigate the harmful dust that is damaging human health. Everyday, amidst all the negativity, so many people do very good things! Thank you California voters for protecting our wild creatures and wild spaces.
Cheers to you from the soon to be saved Salton Sea~
Exquisite images, Cindy. Happy to hear CA voters want to preserve this part of the flyway and its unique beauty. Happy summer!
Thank you Peter. This last visit I felt like I may have been witnessing the decline and death of the sea. Now a week later, everything has changed for the better. There will still be a lot to do, but this is incredibly encouraging!
That IS great news!
Yes!!! I can continue my multi-visits each year to this amazing wild place!
Good news! Thanks for the report and wonderful photos! 🙂
We certainly need good news and the voters made it happen!
Truly good news! Congrats! What a beautiful body of water!
It is a gorgeously strange place!
Amazing!
The Salton Sea is unusual to understate it!
Is the Salton Sea salty, Cindy?
Leslie
Yes, saltier than the ocean.
Isn’t that interesting……
Shocking to see it this way, but I’m so glad to hear that it will be restored (at least, that they will try).
Yes, the birds and wild ones now have a chance.
That IS good news! Thank you for sharing it : )
Thank you for caring.
Wow! The calming effect of the silent sea.
This place draws me back time and again, year after year. It is strangely soothing to me.
That’s such good news, Cindy! Yay! Every once in a while, people really do shine. Gorgeous photos!
We, and the wild ones, desperately need the good news!
Amazing! I wonder why this sea is so silent! Thanks for sharing the good news.
In June it is in the low 100F, in August 120F, and it is saltier than the ocean, and polluted.
That is excellent news! Thank you CA voters – way to go! 🙂
My oh my, do we ever need some good environmental news!
It really made my day – good news is so hard to find these days!
Yes indeed!
Everything is so green!
Amazing isn’t it. Salt Cedars and plants that thrive with heavy salt.
These are amazing shots, Cindy. 🙂
Thank you & cheers to you Ranu <3
Such wonderful news and exquisite photos. It’s so peaceful. I see why the birds love it there 😊
Yes, and why I do too.
Lucky to have that around you!
<3
I’m so grateful to live in California!
We are a bit of a challenge to the status quo, and we have the economic chomps to back it up. We are the fifth largest economy in the world.
Gosh that’s a lot of money put towards restoration and conservation. Really great news, Cindy.
Looks a unique area and will be so much better for the migrating birds.
Yes, it is an area that is hard to love, which is why I love it so.
A new place for me. Searched for it … and thanks for the introduction!
If you ever go here, please talk to me first. It is kinda like driving into the apocalypse unless you have some pointers. A blogger went here from across the country without telling me, and felt just as I described. Every challenging place has it’s own special beauty, just like people.
Thanks for the tips!
<3
Wonderful news!!!!!!
And how badly do we both need this! <3
Wonderful news! Hooray for California voters!
Yes! It is nice to feel good about an election.

I will take what I can get, and this good news is something I can get! Thank you Charles for being such an radiant light.
The best news I’ve heard in a long, long time. Yay!!!! Great shots of the area.
I know. Me too! Can you believe it! I want to keep seeing the wild creatures here, and I want the people who live here to have protection, and for once, what I hope for seems closer to happening.
Love the images. Very peaceful and calm. Glad efforts are being taken to preserve these areas.
Thank you. I am very happy about this too.
Cheers to you cindy💕
Cheers to California and standing up for what is right.
Thank you for sharing this important news and your amazing photos 🙏
Ahhh, I love blogging, because I make friends like you <3
The feeling is absolutely mutual 💕
<3 <3
Wonderful!
I am so happy people cared.
These beautiful photos look serene. A place to exhale and relax.
Yes. It is a very odd, strange and wonderful place. The birds love it and so do I <3
I popped by via Charles French’s always interesting blog and I’m glad I did…congratulations on sharing this important news for nature and our world…your pictures are stunning!
Well thank you very much & it is lovely to meet you! Charles is a wonderful person and writer. Bloggers rock!
I agree, wholeheartedly!

Hey, Hi. I love about two hours from the Salton Sea and I’m a sailor, so this article is great and I loved it- thanks- LIVEFREE2SAILFAST.com
You are most welcome. We probably live close to each other! It is good news for all of Southern California and for the people and wildlife who live near the sea.
Hi, yes, it is. Too bad they can’t fully take it back to pre-salton sea marsh, its just too late-
It is too late and too polluted, but effort spent now, will reduce calamity later for humans and wildlife.
That is good news! Lovely photos missy!!! 🙂 <3 xoxoxoxo
Love to you sweet friend <3
Love to you too lovely Cindy❣️😘xoxo xoxoxo
<3 <3
Beautiful photos and marvelous news!!❤😊
I know. Can you believe it? Maybe Caly will wake and roar. And even if not, Californian’s were smart enough to know our state’s most amazing assets are our wild spaces,
Great to hear such good news
It is indeed. How badly do we in the States need good news? We need it pretty desperately.
I too wondered why the area was deserted when it looks so lovely, but you have already answered that. It is always uplifting to receive good news, especially with regard to the environment. I look forward to photographs from your future visits that will document the positive changes.
Oh my gosh, I hadn’t even thought of that. But now, you know what, I’m going back more frequently to do just that. That you for giving me a reason.<3
Good news indeed! 😀
We need good news across the pond.

Beautiful pictures, Cindy!😊 I love reflections in water, it’s so beautiful.
Thank you! I love water reflections too. They fascinate…..
Very good news indeed! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for caring!
That is wonderful news! Yay and what an amazing place it will be then! It looks beautiful!
I can’t wait to watch the wetland improvement and see what happens with the migratory bird populations.
Great news for wildlife! 🙂
Indeed, and for people too.
Thanks Cindy! Good news is Always needed. And it is stunning!
Good news, and people behaving sensibly. What a concept!
excellent news
Yes. I am very happy with my state right now.
😊
That’s wonderful news and your photo’s are glorious. It’s like you’re a lone bird scanning the habitat, soon to be back on track. It seems so isolated and quiet. Is it too hot for most?
Yes. It is lovely in spring, fall and winter. In summer, it desolates as it heats, and can be quite dangerous. This is when you really feel the desert closing in on you. I love it.
Good news and thank you for the amazing pictures!
Thank you more for such kind appreciation.
Great news!
And our planet needs good news!
Absolutely!
<3
oh, wie toll, ich wünsche eine erfolgreiche schöne neue Woche, Klaus
Danke, lieber Klaus! Hoffe, du hast auch eine wundervolle Woche.
Thank you Cindy for taking the time to bring attention to this.
Thank you more for taking the time to read and comment.
Thanks for the beautiful retreat to the Salton Sea. And congrats that Cali. voters decided to protect and restore this precious waterway.
It is very good to see people acting responsibly on behalf of our planet <3
Thanks, Cindy, for the pictures – very impressive – and for the good news about rescuing the Salton Sea wetlands.
It is such good news and I look forward to observing the implementation.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Yep, me too.
👍👏
You know the place, and you know how much it needs the help!
Wonderful news for preservation! Thanks for the pics that celebrate the stillness and beauty.
Yes, preservation and protection, what concepts! <3
Beautiful photos, Cindy, and I’m glad the voters of California are enlightened to save this precious ecosystem!
I am very glad too & thank you!
Interesting to see. Our book club read the novel The Book of Dead Birds some years ago, which is when I first heard of the Salton Sea. A fascinating place.
I hadn’t heard of this book, so I googled it. It sounds fascinating on multiple levels and I will down load it. Thanks for the heads-up.
I hope you enjoy the book as well as the actual site. I found the book quite interesting.
It sounds so…..
Wonderful news and great photos. Now if only the voters would deal with some of the other issues that threaten the Country… xx
Exactly. We can always hope! <3
Good to know that some states still care since our wildlife and wild lands need protecting now more than ever.
I couldn’t possibly agree more <3
Thank you for the good news Cindy! It’s good to know there are some places in this country with the good sense to know we must preserve our environment! Silent Spring came to mind as I write. I don’t ever want one of those or a silent summer, winter or fall for that matter.
Exactly. Rachel Carson was a prescient genius.

As beautiful as you my dear Cindy.
<3 <3
Beautiful Rose.
<3
Nice when people do the right thing!!
It is sweet indeed <3
Yay! California! I saw a documentary on the Salton Sea many years ago, and it was already quite problematic back then. Thanks for sharing the good news. 🙂
It has basically always been problematic, but not the problems have reached the level of crisis, so it is especially encouraging that voters supported this proposition.
Gorgeous photos, Cindy, and wonderful to hear about the passage of Prop 68. It’s a relief and a blessing to focus on the positive amid the chaos. Thanks so much for sharing the good news! ❤️
We need it so badly in these days of consistent negative behavior. It is encouraging.
That is very good news indeed, Cindy! I love your reflections.
Ahhh, thank you! I love your kind comment.
You bring out the beauty in so many places, but this–quite an achievement! Same with CA legislature’s plan for renewal. Great news!
Thank you. I am so relieved that voters want to protect California’s incredible natural spaces.
That is a good news! I always like to hear we think about other beings that live along us on this earth too!

Amazing shots Cindy.
Ah, thank you & be well.
Eine schlichte aber wunderschöne Landschaft. Erinnert mich an die Camargue in den Siebziger Jahren. Danke Cindy fürs zeigen…

I am so sorry. I know I brutalized the language. But it is such a beautiful language.
Beautiful photos and great news about the funding for such a spectacularly beautiful, tranquil spot.
Thank you Marje & it is indeed wonderful news and so encouraging that voters passed this proposition.
Such a lovely sequence, Cindy! Best wishes, always 🙂 🙂
Ahhh, so kind & thank you Jo <3
That is great news for the area! Love hearing about positive environmental measures. Nice combination of prose and imagery.

I share your feeling about positive action regarding our environment and thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Wonderful news!
Yes it is & cheers to you Michele!
YAY! One small victory, for Mother Earth.
Great shots, Cindy, austere and calling…..like the pipes.
Mother needs the victories. <3 to you Resa!
Wow
It is a very odd place.
We live in a beautiful world and there are many, many people who will stand with the people of California. Thank you for this hopeful and profound news. We can make a difference – together.
Yes we can! Hugs to you Rebecca. <3
Good news for the birds and migration routes. – Oscar
It is. I have never seen the sea so empty of birds. I hope they start the wetland recovery soon, but you know bureaucracy, and this is quite a huge mess to try and ameliorate….
Salton See is a great tragedy!!!
Yes. I hope, for all affected, we can turn it into something slightly better.
salton sea and san andreas form a deadly couple
I would guess that when The San Andreas blows, it will just swallow The Salton Sea.
It would be great!
That is good news, Cindy!
I love these peaceful photos. I can hear the silence. (I remember an old Gomer Pyle rerun from my childhood, where he talks about listening to the quiet. The concept always stayed with me.) Hugs.
How lovely of Gomer. Silence calms me <3
Breathtaking… It must be difficult to leave the place.
Thank you for sharing, Cindy! 🙂
It is a beautiful, polluted, wasteland. So it is a study in opposites.
Oh no… Saving The Salton Sea sounds really encouraging.
It is encouraging, in that the problems may be ameliorated, somewhat, in that the wild animals that depend on the sea, and the people who live near it, could be benefitted and not killed. It is complicated, more so than most people who haven’t visited the sea all their life realize. I will do a post next, I think, clarifying things, but only a bit. Although, I tend, on purpose, to avoid, hitting hard things head on, since many others do it, and it creates such a realistically depressing onslaught it can be overwhelming.
Beautiful photos and such good news Cindy! 😍
Yes. I hope they start the restorations soon as the wildlife are not doing well.
Bravo! A breath of fresh air (and hopefully water) in the stifling stench rising from DC every day. Thanks for letting us know!
Your most welcome. I look very much forward to watching the restorations!
Beautiful area and stunning photos, Cindy. Pleased to hear that some people care unselfishly about the planet and nature…the silent, peaceful majority, for once in the history of mankind, need to speak with whatever peaceful tools we have and our money seems to be quite a tool!
Your words give me goosebumps. Because they are so true. And so powerful.
I am ever hopeful that each of us will realize the power we have as individuals, together.
We need to know, and act on this now, more than ever…..
Gorgeous photos, Cindy. Always good to read when people do the right thing.
Yes. Some many people do the right thing. All the time. A powerful few, skew the equation, and they make us all look, and feel, bad.
True, Cindy.
<3
Gorgeous
Thank you. And so fraught.
Beautiful place…would inspire a great blog post! Just what I need to get my creativity flowing again!
Sorta like the surface of Mars, with picnic tables…….Can’t wait to see what your curiosity flow creates!!
Well…yes! ☺ hopefully not too similar to Mars right now with the raging dust storm its experiencing ravaging it!😉
<3 <3
Great news! Hopefully, all these small steps will start adding up and dare we hope for a significant improvement…
xx Rowena
There maybe more efforts coming forward. I will wait and watch. Thank you for caring Rowena.

Let’s just hope it works. I will monitor and post. Thank you for caring!
I cannot wait to see this place in five, even three, years from when the conservation effort takes place!
I plan to post on the results. I feel such a strong personal connection to the place and I expect to see improvement. Hope all is well with you Maiko <3
Agree Cindy– that’s great news!! I’m surprised at the variety of vegetation around the water. Love your beautiful reflection photo. You are amazing.
