both can be most perfectly seen,
and innocence.
Kotor Montenegro possesses both the beauty of age,
and the appeal of innocence.
It seems unspoiled by the modern world.
Staying here one feels removed from the stress and strife of our messy contemporary lives.
Herzlich
I meant Ich habe schicke Freunde! <3
Oh, da wünsche ich dir jetzt schon guten Appetit und viel Freude in Deutschland ! Ich freue mich immer über deine wunderschönen Fotos <3
Cindy, I’m going to Google the place, such charm and beauty combined!
Leslie
Yes! It is a true jewel.
<3
What a beautiful land that seems to have stood still in time
It is so wonderful to escape our conflictual world to a place that seems so removed from our problems.
What a lovely place! Reminded me of Italy! Beautiful pictures!
Lovely pictures.
Thank you~
🙂
So beautiful, Cindy. I love the narrow lanes – transported back in time. 🙂
It is wonderful to go back in time isn’t it! <3
Yes. Montenegro really is beautiful.
Happy you have experienced it!
Thanks so much for sharing! What a beautiful place. I look forward to your next post.
I am happy you are traveling along with me!
So much beauty. Thanks for sharing another gem, Cindy. Wow.
If you see the beauty in Kotor, you have beauty in you~
Exquisite photos Cindy. Thanks so much for sharing this beauty with us. I hope you are having the time of your life! Hugs.
Life for all of us has moments of beauty, and lots of struggle. Beauty keeps our heads above the water.
What a vibrant and enchanting place Cindy! Thank you for sharing with us 💛
The little girl and the dog were a serious of photos. He was not her dog. They just fell entirely in love with each other as I watched. The baby kept checking with her mother if this was okay, and the dog was rolling full over on his back, giving her total submission. It was perfect beauty.
So lovely – to be a witness to interspecies understanding and love. 💕
Exactly & children establish it so easily!
I am in love with this place. What fantastic photos. I feel such a yearning to walk down those narrow streets, meet the people, and savor all of the beauty.
Well, you have a heart, in the right place~ <3
Beautiful and so vibrant shots 😉
You are a good friend and I appreciate you.
☺️
🙂
Montenegro looks so charming, Cindy 🙂
It certainly lacks glitz and glamour, but then beauty always does~ <3
I agree and I like the charm 🙂
You are very blessed. Kotor is stunning.
Very pleased you enjoyed & thank you!
AWESOME!
Grazie!
The old stone is lovely, Cindy, and against that magnificent backdrop… 🙂 🙂
Yes, it is amazing! Thank you for noticing~
How sweet the young girl with her pal or somebody’s pal. Love the architecture of the buildings. So much character in the villages or towns. I could easily live there.
Your life would be so different, and I suspect possibly better……..
More simple would be nice
Yes!
Thank you for those beautiful epostcards and the thoughts that went with them. I noticed few people in the streets; I assume crowds were standing behind you watching you compose and take the photographs as is (was?) often done with artists with brushes, canvases, and easels on the left bank of Paris.
Ahh, such a thoughtful and lovely comment that touched my <3 ! Thank you & be well~
You made me smile with the first picture and the smile got bigger while scrolling down. What a beautiful place. If these old walls could talk.
I would be listening for days………
Wow, so beautiful – I had to look it up. A new place to me! Looks like paradise. <3
It is unique and quite special. So happy you enjoyed & cheers to you Eliza~
I love the colours and the wonderful light. I will have to visit this place! Croatia and Montenegro are put on my bucket list.
Yay! You will be so glad you added them~ <3
Kids and puppies what a joyous way to draw me in. Magnificent views.
Yep! They works for me evertime too! <3
I have not visited Kotor … but I can tell that it is a place I would appreciate. Just LOVE the pics. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Ahhh, you are so thoughtful & most appreciated~
What a beautiful place! Thank you for taking us there.
Thank you more for traveling with me~
Montenegro is on my bucket list, Cindy! Such a lovely place to de-stress. My Mediterranean blood longs to be there. Hugs from home, sweet friend 💚
Yes, I feel quite at home in Eastern Europe and I expect my genes are responding!
Amazing, as always.
So glad & thanks much my friend~
Beautifully captured, Cindy! How charming and colorful! Thank you so much for the beautiful tour. 🙂 🙂
Very pleased you came along with me Amy & cheers to you~
Oh I love this post. It makes me feel peaceful…maybe because I am old and innocent? Kidding aside your photos and thoughts are remarkable.
Feeling peaceful is important in our stressful lives and old places like this have this soporofic effect. Glad it worked it’s magic on you!
Always beautiful photos, but capturing the top one of the little boy and his dog is my favorite. It does capture the beauty and simple way of life. Is all this still in Greece? Wasn’t sure of that part of geographical location, so assumed it was as that is where your last ones were posted?
I am always behind in my posts, posting about places I just left. I haven’t finished posting about Greece yet. This town is in the country Montenegro that used to be part of the old Yugoslavia~
Thanks, Cindy for clarifying that. I’m sure it is just as beautiful. Loved the little boy and his dog. 🙂
Omg that little girl is so cute! I love the pic with the laundry on the line! Of course all the pics are breathtaking sweetie, Hugz Lisa and Bear
Hugs & friendship back 2U2! <3
I really like the second picture. Love that color cast on the left side walls. Just fantastic color and perspective.
Thanks so much for noticing! I loved the color and light too. So happy you picked up on it!
Wonderful series of images, Cindy.
I love travel photography (since I can’t afford to travel these days).
There are lots of benefits to traveling in your imagination. You miss all of the unintended hassles!
I would LOVE to go there and experience the simplicity of the place; it looks wonderful – and so colourful! Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos Cindy, going to check it out on Mr Google now.
Very pleased you enjoyed. How on earth did we ever live without google? It seems like the dark ages to me now!
Amazing photos! Great post
Grazie mille!
These photo are so lovely….they look like they could be featured in any magazine!!
What a lovely comment. Thank you very much!
Very true….your photos are exquisite!!
These photos are fantastic – you really should think of a book of them. 🙂
Thanks you. It would force me to organize by region which would be very good for my increasing forgetful cerebellum!
ahhhh so inviting, just back from a day trip along the St. Lawrence, wish I’d had some of that sunshine… waves a cheerful hello…
The St Lawrence is soooo beautiful, rain or shine. Cheers back to you my friend~
Beautiful pictures you have here.
So happy you think so & cheeers to you!
Thank you!
Love, love, love, love, LOVE these photos!!!
Ahhh, you made me smile! So happy you resonated with this lovely old place~
Don`t know, how you always find these places or how you get these amazing animalphotos on your Blog! They are unbelievable!!! Respect & many greetings!
Such a motivating and encouraging comment, that makes me happy I posted. Thank you so much!

It’s absolutely beautiful, like a step back into the Middle Ages.
I wonder how many of us would like to travel back to some other period of time. I certainly would!
Wonderful place!
Indeed it is!
Wow, the beautiful lighting here adds to the enchantment of this place, which, has so much character just by itself. It IS relaxing just to see this! Thanks for the trip back in time Cindy! 🙂
Old places like this remove us, at least temporarily, from our stressful lives. So glad Kotor worked her magic on you Lynn!
Simply paradise, my friend \ \ \◦°˚\(*❛‿❛)/˚°◦ / / /

Simply beautiful.
Grazie!

There is much to be said for double glazing, attic insulation and the obligatory energy certificate in Europe that can determine your asking price of a house… but you cannot beat the colour and character of these wonderful old houses as they arch towards each other in narrow streets. Cindy Knoke on her Grand Tour takes us to the warmth of Montenegro and that first photo is just delightful #recommended
Friends like you make blogging so worthwhile. Hugs to you and gratitude too~
It is such a beautiful country and the pictures are so pretty. their Medieval villages are fascinating. Thank you for posting.
Thank you so much more for such kind appreciation & cheers to you!
Tender portrait and breathtaking streets
It takes sensitive heart to recognize tenderness~
🙂
Your photographs make me want to go to Kotor, so amazing they are. The first one is oustanding for capturing the moment and for the soul it contains. Congrats for all the pictures, because of them I can almost feel the atmosphere of Kotor as I was there…
What a truly lovely comment that touched my heart and motivates me to keep blogging. Thank you so much my friend and have a wonderful weekend~

Very pretty place, Lovely old buildings with the colourful shutters. 🙂
Thank you and glad you enjoyed Judy. I love real, ancient shabby chic!
Me too 🙂
A beautiful place. Where is it?
It is in the country of Montenegro, which used to be in the former Yugoslavia. Happy Friday Susanne~ <3
So pretty!!
Merci beau coup mon ami!
De rien 😉
<3
Ahhhhhh!! I know you posted this yesterday but I’m just seeing it today and it is PERFECT because I really needed this beauty today to counter the dreadful news. Thank you for lifting my spirits with you beautiful photos, Cindy! <3
Yes. I know exactly what you mean and how you feel. The old stone walls and builidings in these ancient cities seem protective against the true insanity of our modern world. We need to travel back in time for a species do over and see if it is possible for us not to screw everything up.
If only we could re-do! :}
We had one chance.
Stunning photos Cindy!
Grazie mille!
Wow, thank you for inviting me on this spectacular journey. <3
I love traveling with you my friend~ <3
I’m there! <3
You are, and I love you~
I love you too girlfriend. <3
Unspoiled indeed!
Rare in todays world!
It is a very different life here! It appears natural, real and charming. What is the food like?
The food is superb! Everyone grows their own veggies, has chickens and geese, that freely roam with no restriction. When I had my first egg for breakfast, it took me awhile to get used to it and realize that eggs are supposed to be deep yellow in color and have a strong egg flavor. Tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, bread, everything small scale artisan produced and so different from the mass produced and processed food we get at home. I clearly think we have devolved as a species. We even screw up our own food. We are getting chickens and I am expanding the vegetable garden at The Holler when we get home.
Good idea, Cindy! We have lots of local small farms and farmers markets to shop at in Toronto.
There’s also a co-op of tiny farms that have free range eggs and chickens with no hormones or antibiotics.
I know what you mean about the eggs. The yolks are golden, and the shells are like rock. Every egg in the carton is a different color.
Our mass produced agriculture in America has a lot to learn, but I doubt it will~
Yes! Canadians seen wiser.
Never heard of it… wanna go! Gorgeous!
Please go. This whole region is amazingly old & unspoiled~
You have managed to capture the beauty of the city with your images. I would like one to be in your eyes to discover the magic of your art. Your photos are so wonderful, they look like an extraordinary painting.
Ahhhh, such a kind and thoughtful comment touched my heart my friend. Sincere thanks & be well~
Another beautiful place, Cindy, with great photographs and words to illustrate the beauty. –Curt
Thank you my friend. I feel the same way about your photos and posts!
Wow,very nice place
So happy you enjoyed them & cheers to you!
Ahh, Cindy, such fabulous photography. My favorite is the wonderful warm-toned side street with the clothes drying out the window. 🙂
So glad you noticed and told me.
Simplicity = beauty.
Thank you for knowing~
I can feel my nerves calm just by looking at these peaceful photos, Cindy — thank you!!
I do this because everyone, including me, needs realistic images.

Thank you for your thoughfulness and cheers to you from France!
Narrow streets (w/o cars) lined by serenely colorful old buildings (with electricity) is a winning combination, beautifully captured in these photos.
Thank you! Stepping back to a time so removed from our current reality seems almost dreamlik. Thank you for your kind appreciation~
As a traveler I am in love with this place. Those narrow streets and alleys take you back in time, don’t they? Have I seen this place in any of the James Bond flick? I believe Casino Royale. Am I right?
I think most of Casino Royale was filmed in Prague and the Czech Republic, but Prague is my favorite city and Kotor is now my second. They resemble each other and are both in Eastern Europe~
Wunderschöne Bilder dieser verträumten alten Stadt Kotor!!! Danke fürs zeigen. Ernst
Vielen Dank, du gehörst dir Ernst und glücklichen Sonntag von Straßburg!
Wonderful!!
Merci beaucoup mon ami!
Absolutely delightful photos and sentiments, Cindy~~
Thank you! Hugs to you my friend & Happy Sunday!
Vancouver has seen a record rainfall this spring. Love seeing the sun in your photos!
Europe is having a extended record making heat wave that has lasted the entire time we are traveling. And so goes our planet. Hope the sun comes out soon for you Rebecca and brings the burst of spring flowers that I know are on their way. <3
Wanting to leave immediately…for Kotor!
I want to go back and stay after watching the news on BBC~
More hopeless news now?… Let’s go…
I will meet you there! <3
❤
Beautiful photos, what a fascinating place.
Yes, the town that time forgot!
What wonderful photos, Cindy… the colours of the shutters, the wrought iron canopies, the wonderful textures of the walls and the paved alleys, the colours of the tiled roofs, the curves of the minaret -type churches, the tranqull atmosphere, it all made me long to live there, it seemed like a lost paradise, and how wonderful that no world war had despoiled this ravishing place….and not even any rubbish or litter… no coke bottles of fast food wrappers, chocolate wrappings or plastic bags.. just beauty and truth and innocence !!!!
You have a discerning eye Valerie. I am now in Strasbourg and watched the BBC news for the first time in weeks. I want to go back to Kotor and live there too! Thank you for your lovely comment and have a happy Sunday my friend~
Beautiful setting 😎Wolfie would love roaming around there exploring 😀
He would wake up all of Kotor’s local dogs, even the two rottweilers who got attitudinal with me! He could teach them some manners~
Oooh…I suspect you could teach them a manner or two!! 😉
I would have loved it! <3
You see some very beautiful, unique places, Cindy! Montenegro is beautiful. I enjoy these arm chair travels with you! 🙂
I love traveling with you Lavinia, so thanks much & cheers to you~
What a treat, Cindy. I just love little villages like this one. It seems you are transported to another time. Beautiful photos.
Thank you my friend and I love time travel too!
Truly insane beauty and mixed with so much history! I’m really envious: to paint in such a place would be fantastic. And as I understand you really get a chance to go to all these beautiful places. That is just WOW!
I cannot even remember when we were on vacation. The last 3 years in 1 backyard and a few rooms. So, looking at these pictures takes a breath away. Great job on all photos! That takes a special talent, too.
Ah, so thoughtful of you Inese! Thank you. I hope you go on vacay very soon my friend. <3
You always travel to such interesting places, Cindy! What a lovely, unspoiled place.
It is nice to know there are still places like this on the planet. We are seeing more of them in Eastern Europe and I am glad they are still here~
I’d love to know how you come up with your places to visit list. Very interesting.
I heard it was a stunning place and you have just confirmed it. Great pics 🙂
Merci beaucoup & cheers to you!

What a beautifully written post!Love those lines Cindy. They seem to say it all. I love such places which have their old world charm and innocence about them.
Thank you! Escaping our current world seems even more compelling now.
Love love this set of photos Cindy!! What an amazing place– it looks as if it could have been 100 years ago. I’m off to google Montenegro to read more about the country. Your description made it seem like a wonderful place to slow down and reflect! Happy travels!! xox
It is off the beaten and seems like it’s only little protected hamlet that time fortunately forgot. Happy Easter Rhonda~ <3
Loved your views of the city and it’s streets Cindy!! I googled Monte Negro and read all about it after I saw your beautiful post!! thank you!! xo

Your photos of this gorgeous town are beautiful! I cannot imagine such a place existing, so lovely and peaceful.
So removed from the stresses of our modern world.

Wonderful and charming. I can see how one feels removed from the stress of the modern world here.
Our modern world is not healthy. We need to escape from it for serenity. Hugs to you my friend and Happy Easter!
SO envious of all your travels. (I only hope to feel better to travel overseas, again, some day. ;))
Those wisteria blooms…JUST GORGEOUS! Your photography is always so stunning! Happy Easter!
You have already packed an incredible amount of travel and living abroad experience in your young life! I started a lot later than you! But I do hope your health allows to continue your adventures in the future. Hugs to you and Happiest of Easter to you and your family!
So beautiful
There are all these unspoiled little towns in Eastern Europe. All of them incredibly charming and untouristed. I will post more of them soon. Cheers to you Charlotte~
goooodddddddd!
<3
Thank you Cindy, ,the little girl is cute. 🙂
Hi Cindy, the most striking thing to me about your post, is the great photography for one! 🙂 but how clean the streets and buildings are in the pictures, I dare say you would be hard pressed even in small towns around here in the USA to find towns as clean as in your pictures. It seems in a lot of places around the world there is a real sense of pride for where they live and wanting to keep it clean, no trash, streets (walk ways) seem to have a washed down appearance. Also everything is brightly painted. and I love those terracotta roofs. Love reading your posts! 🙂
What a detailed visual eye you have. I didn’t really think of this until you mentioned it, but you are certainly right. These towns have not litter! How wonderful. You saw something in the photos that I didn’t and that is marvelous! Thank you & cheers to you~
You know Cindy, we both being the photographer and writer, often it is the case I will take pictures, and not notice tiny things, that really should have stood out at the time. However, they do not seem to appear until you are processing the images. 🙂
Well and what also fascinates me is perception. Several humans can look at the same scene and see very different things.
Hola Cindy. Lovely little village. About the same population as my village of Ajijic. Finally finished my novel Aging Beautifully in Light of You – A Romance, and the collection of essays and poetry on the aging process. I look forward to visiting your blog more often now that my mind is free to explore beyond the demands of writing. Put up a web site at http://www.johnthomasdodds.mx – enjoy John
Congratulations on finishing your novel John. What an accomplishment and thank you for stopping by. I look forward to exploring your blog.
Indeed amazing pictures! I will be visiting Kotor very soon and I can’t wait for it 🙂
Thanks for sharing.
Oh, I can’t wait to hear your impressions. I love Kotor!
So gorgeous, Cindy! Thank you for posting these lovely images.
So honored that a talent like you appreciates these photos. Thank you!
I just loved the rooftops and all the colors! I was thinking about you because I’m in Australia and I ‘ve been seeing a lot of birds you would love to photograph 😊.
Funny you should mention this, we are discussing returning to Australia in 2018 and I am itching to see the birds. Australia’s birds amaze me and I am so happy you are there!
We are going on an Early Bird Walk tomorrow morning in the rainforest. Who knows what we will see! We’ve seen a lot of animals in the wild. Love this country.
What a thrill, Australians think I am a bit balmy because I keep going into raptures over their birds!
Back in bird territory now–Kakadu NP. There are so many birds, but you have to stay away from the water’s edge because of crocodiles.
Oh I am envious. Was just talking with my blogging friend Alison about her recommendations for good birding spots in Oz. I would love them from you too! We are going in 2018 if all goes si Dios quiere!
So far, I would say yellow water/East (I think) Crocodile River in Kakadu NP. Just beautiful with amazing birds, many in number and variety. You have take the late afternoon boat tour of the marshes because there are also many crocs–the most I’ve seen so far. It is near Cooinda in the park.
Wonderful tips. Thank you!
You are welcome!
