  9. Beautiful soft lighting on the golden eagle! By the way, as someone’s who’s done a lot of landscape painting, “chasing the light” holds a special meaning for me. It really is difficult to capture a whole scene on canvas due to the ever changing light!

    1. I didn’t know you did landscapes. Might you post some? I am amazed by the rapid changes in the light in the southwest. A photo taken of the same exact spot, seconds later has markedly different lighting. Shadows move like lightening across the lanscapes. Sunsets bring out all these layers of pastels and make the rock mesas glow bright red. So, so beautiful.

      1. Oh yes, I can imagine how stunning the rocks and canyons in the southwest look with the changing light enhancing everything!

        And, as a matter of fact, I do keep digital images of my paintings so yes, I’ll find some way to post them on my blog and let you know when I’ve done that. 🙂

      Hilary Clinton won the popular vote by a significant number. Trump is the second republican in recent years elected by the electoral college in opposition to the public vote. Bush Jr was the other.
      I envy the eagle greatly. He can fly above, away from our human weakness, and see us as we really are, struggling.

    1. We need to be lifted with the beauty of this land and it’s inhabitants now more than ever.
      And when we think about current events, we need to look closely at the electoral college, and understand that for the second time in recent history, a candidate has been elected in opposition to the popular vote, in oppostion to the will of the people. The last time this happened was when Al Gore won the election, but the electoral college elected G.Bush Jr.
      Hilary won the popular vote by a greater margin than Al Gore.
      The electoral college was set up because the founding fathers felt a democracy couldn’t really be left entirely to the will of the people because they weren’t smart or educated enough to be relied upon.
      So, I really do hate to say it, but we really haven’t had a democracy from the start.

    1. In the faces and eyes of wild animals, we see in some mysterious way, our truth reflected. It is as if they see us without the filter we use to avoid this piercing vision. They seem to me so intelligent. I am so glad you find the hope in them that I do too. Hugs to you~

  21. Omg Cindy, I SO much want to be back there again; especially after yesterday’s election. I love red rock country. It is “home” to me. It is where my spirit lives. Thank you for these magnificent and absorbing photos. They are calling to my soul… ❤

    1. It is a compellingly spiritual place where ancient rock looks carved by God, and Petroglyphs send us ancient messages from people who lived thousands of years ago. It is a place to revere the earth and commune with her, and reaffirm our conviction to protect this planet and all the creatures living on it, from anyone who would harm it. Big hugs to you Tina~ <3

    1. I am feeling the same, along with worries for the future. The natural places in the southwest whose native peoples endured such suffering at our hands, shows us the powerful and enduring beauty of nature which gives us comfort and hope. Something many of us need badly rignt now. <3

The solace of natural, unspoiled places gives us hope because nature is so much more powerful and enduring than human beings.     1. She does, especially in the most pernicious of times, we must take comfort from the distant intelligence of the eagle and the endurance and wisdom of Mother Nature. You know this so much better than I, but it appears I will need to be learning from you my friend, on how to live in such a hostile human world.

I really like starting and ending with the fierce raptor; and the fifth photograph, with miniature humans, adds great perspective in so many ways.
