which has such a small window of existence,
that when you catch it,
it has already changed.
Shadow is ever present here,
defining the light.
Cheers to you from the land of light and shadow~
Land of shadow and light, and hopefully the land of hope and kindness, too. We might leave off the glory for the moment. Fabulous photos from a great land.
I hear you and resonate. A beautiful country that deserves love and care for the people, the land, and all the creatures living here. Love to you Mandy~
I hope you do, I want to see your photos. Plus I was taking photos of fish yesterday. They were so densely packed in the streams, I could photograph whole schools off them!
Beautiful soft lighting on the golden eagle! By the way, as someone’s who’s done a lot of landscape painting, “chasing the light” holds a special meaning for me. It really is difficult to capture a whole scene on canvas due to the ever changing light!
I didn’t know you did landscapes. Might you post some? I am amazed by the rapid changes in the light in the southwest. A photo taken of the same exact spot, seconds later has markedly different lighting. Shadows move like lightening across the lanscapes. Sunsets bring out all these layers of pastels and make the rock mesas glow bright red. So, so beautiful.
Oh yes, I can imagine how stunning the rocks and canyons in the southwest look with the changing light enhancing everything!
And, as a matter of fact, I do keep digital images of my paintings so yes, I’ll find some way to post them on my blog and let you know when I’ve done that. 🙂

Something beautiful to lift up my spirits and renew my resolve…free and far-seeing like the eagle. Strong and immovable like the stones. Unfeeling like the earth.
I am.
“I am a rock. I am an island and a rock feels no pain, and an island never cries.”
Hilary Clinton won the popular vote by a significant number. Trump is the second republican in recent years elected by the electoral college in opposition to the public vote. Bush Jr was the other.
I envy the eagle greatly. He can fly above, away from our human weakness, and see us as we really are, struggling.
We need to be lifted with the beauty of this land and it’s inhabitants now more than ever.
And when we think about current events, we need to look closely at the electoral college, and understand that for the second time in recent history, a candidate has been elected in opposition to the popular vote, in oppostion to the will of the people. The last time this happened was when Al Gore won the election, but the electoral college elected G.Bush Jr.
Hilary won the popular vote by a greater margin than Al Gore.
The electoral college was set up because the founding fathers felt a democracy couldn’t really be left entirely to the will of the people because they weren’t smart or educated enough to be relied upon.
So, I really do hate to say it, but we really haven’t had a democracy from the start.
In the faces and eyes of wild animals, we see in some mysterious way, our truth reflected. It is as if they see us without the filter we use to avoid this piercing vision. They seem to me so intelligent. I am so glad you find the hope in them that I do too. Hugs to you~
Omg Cindy, I SO much want to be back there again; especially after yesterday’s election. I love red rock country. It is “home” to me. It is where my spirit lives. Thank you for these magnificent and absorbing photos. They are calling to my soul… ❤
It is a compellingly spiritual place where ancient rock looks carved by God, and Petroglyphs send us ancient messages from people who lived thousands of years ago. It is a place to revere the earth and commune with her, and reaffirm our conviction to protect this planet and all the creatures living on it, from anyone who would harm it. Big hugs to you Tina~ <3
Since watching John Ford westerns Monument Valley has always been one of my favourite places. I was happy to visit there in 1995. Thanks for the memory nudge!
I am feeling the same, along with worries for the future. The natural places in the southwest whose native peoples endured such suffering at our hands, shows us the powerful and enduring beauty of nature which gives us comfort and hope. Something many of us need badly rignt now. <3
Chase the light, shadows are forever present – to paraphrase you, Cindy. Good words and soothing photos to demonstrated a metaphor that I can certainly gravitate to in these precarious unknown trying times. This is one of those posts I needed to see today. Thank you and I hope you and yours are all well. <3
I understand exactly what you are feeling and share your trepidation about the future. The solace of natural, unspoiled places gives us hope because nature is so much more powerful and enduring than human beings. Nature keeps light in balance with shadow, and humans would do well to learn from this. Hugs to you Paulette~ <3
A place unaffected by politics and rancour.. tough and unyielding yet incredibly beautiful.. Thanks Cindy for another magical selection of photographs.. hugs my friend.
She does, especially in the most pernicious of times, we must take comfort from the distant intelligence of the eagle and the endurance and wisdom of Mother Nature. You know this so much better than I, but it appears I will need to be learning from you my friend, on how to live in such a hostile human world.
Tho I have never been to Monument Valley, I have seen and admired a zillion pix of it. Yours is the best I can remember. The whole post has wonderful integration of images and text.
Beautiful photos Cindy! You certainly are capturing the ethereal and shifting beauty of the canyonlands. The dance of light and shadow across miles of desolate beauty. 🙂
What grandeur! Your land of light and shadows, the shapes of the cliffs, and movement in every rock mountain–so astounding. Thanks so much Cindy, for these great photos. I really like starting and ending with the fierce raptor; and the fifth photograph, with miniature humans, adds great perspective in so many ways.
The pictures are amazing. They are such a contrast to the dark skies and rain that we have experienced for the past few days! Thank you for a great post.
Great memories of two days at Monument Valley. We parked our camper with the view of the Mittens. In the morning, with sunrise, we walked around the formation.
Oscar
Such fantastic pictures. 🙂
Honored, thank you. We live in a beautiful world~
So true. Beautiful in both the big and the little ways. 🙂

Yes, the importance of valuing and protecting the light in all creatures great and small cannot be overstated~
Yes!!!!💛💛💛
Fantastic pictures ma’am. I know that I sure miss the southwest and the western states.
There are spiritual and amazing lands.
I would love to go there some day soon…such inspiring work…as always!!!
I hope you do, I want to see your photos. Plus I was taking photos of fish yesterday. They were so densely packed in the streams, I could photograph whole schools off them!

Thank you for showing us the beauty of shadow and light around us … May we embrace it within ourselves and find life in balance 💛
Yes! Precisely my thougths~ <3
😍
You have captured Mother Nature’s show quite well. Beautiful photographic work, Cindy!
I am honored, thank you Lavinia~

You do it to me every time.. I open up your e-mail and whomp… staring me straight is the most magnificent of faces. You sure do find the charmers..

Lovely photos Cindy and wow for photos of the eagle. The first one looks like, it just saw something very delicious, coming food 🙂
I think he was doing just that. I watched a raptor doing this yesterday, hovering and dropping for the kill!
His eyes did say so and they are good for hunting 🙂
Beautiful photographs! They are beyond words!!
Ahhh, I am honored. Thank you!
So beautiful. Love it!
Very pleased you do & cheers too!
Very Martian (I imagine). We are a versatile planet, there are even places where one doesn’t have to mow the grass. 🙂
Like The Holler! Mowing the lawn violates my husband’s freedom of choice! :|>
Oh you are kind. 😀 😀
Sedona is Awesome, did you go to Mountain of Enchantment? I haven’t but it’s high on my list.
We didn’t make it to Sedona this time, but I do agree with you, it is gorgeous~

My goodness. They are all stunning as usual, but the top picture of the eagle is amazing! Sending you much love from where I am.
The love is flying back to you Maiko and be well my friend~

It is pure magic and sunset in particular isn’t it.It is the land of space and grandeur!
I have only one word – Majestic.
Thank you Jacqueline, It is a majestic and spiritual land~
In the midst of my post election depression luckily I came across your magnificent photos. Uplifting and beautiful.
Thanks

It shows us the silent, enduring power of nature. We need this now when too many humans are being led by the shadows.
Amazing photos Cindy.

Grazie mille!
Stunning captures, Cindy! I’m thrilled to see these lovely birds up close — your last photo looks like he just went to the salon!!
Laughing, with only one feather out of place!

Thank you! I am looking at the red rock mesas now as I type.

Absolutely stunning Cindy, thank you so much for this beautiful post! I have just shared this post on Twitter.
I am very pleased that you enjoyed and thank you for your thoughtfulness!
You are very welcome :o)
Wow, what a beautiful post. Your pictures are simply stunning!
I am honored and humbled by your kind words. Cheers to you~
Fascinating! I am wondering about those stacked stones in the cape. How old were they?
The stones themselves are ancient sandstone, but the cairn stacks are made by hikers who pass by.
Just amazing.
It is a beautiful and spiritual place~
Beautiful landscapes and what a penetrating gaze!
An eagle eye misses nothing!
Beautiful, Cindy. Reminds me of Sedona. 🙂
Yes, in the earlier days before the crowds. I remember it well then also.
Muita emoção em contemplar as novas publicações! Parabéns Cindy!
Obrigada por me proporcionar tanta beleza!
Um abraço!
Este é um momento difícil para alguns de nós no meu país. Temos medo do futuro. A natureza dá-nos esperança para a resistência. Abraco! <3
É preciso esperança. A arte nos eleva e consola. Um grande abraço amiga!
Você é um amiga maravilhoso. Obrigada e abraços para você. <3
